I am deeply grateful 🙏 this practice is making a difference. Although I still have pain, it does not interfere with my life anymore. It has been such a gift! ❤❤❤
Thank you for this video Tanner. I was just talking to my physio before seeing this, about your videos and how helpful I find them. He first told me about neuroplastic pain and your videos have certainly helped me to understand not just what it is but also to help myself reduce my symptoms. I loved the playful analogies you used here.
I’ve only done this particular practice a couple of times, and every time you mention your son in the snow I start crying. I don’t know why but it feels healing. This is definitely one of my favourites, I’ll add it to the growing collection. Thank you Tanner for this, truly. ❤
Hi Tanner! It’s 8:20 AM here now. I sat down w my coffee and thought, “I absolutely need to do somatic tracking right now.” I opened up my you tube, and there you were with this. 😮 Synchronicity. 😊
I have done a lot of somatic tracking exercises and this is my favourite, for its clarity and detail - will be repeating often. Thanks so much for making this available - really really helpful.
Wonderful relaxing video, Tanner! I loved the cat analogy and the playful curiosity they bring to new things. (Though kitten react just like my crocodile brain sometimes, leaping in the air if something seems even the slightest bit scary! ;) ) This is one of your best for helping people create a sense of safety around their symptoms and sensations. Thank you!
Thank you. Nice job on lightening the mood during the meditation with your tales of your curious cat and your son in the snow. I'll try doing this for several days; I believe it'll help.
Thank you! This is great! Love the addition of the breathing at the end. I read Alan Gordon’s book and was having trouble with the “lightness” so your examples and metaphors are helpful
Thank you. It’s helpful to hear a balanced perspective that there can be some neuroplastic pain and physical. Too many of the messages are that it’s one or the other which I don’t believe is helpful (?). Or is this process separating from the physical and focusing on the mental, emotional aspects? Thanks 🙏
Hi Tanner! I just have a couple of questions for you. 1) How often per day do you recommend that I do this exercise? (So far I’ve been doing it twice a day-once in the morning and once at night). 2) How long does it usually take until I notice an improvement? And 3) Do most of the people who practice Somatic Tracking regularly experience an eventual improvement in their symptoms? Thank you for all that you do! -Stephanie
1) Depends person to person. Usually 1-3 times a day at first. 2) Really depends person to persons. A few weeks to a few months. 3) Yes many of my clients do!
I have just started to get into this.. I will probably subscribe to Curable.. This does seam similar to IFS and to Loving Parent Check In.. I might be able to use all of them together..
Thankyou so much for this free resource ❤️🙏 😊 i love the calm manner and great analogies you use it really helps to understand the type of curiosity or way we are meant to be looking at things. Tanner is this something u would reccomend doing say every morning when u wake up almost like a routine (provided they r low to moderate like you say)? The thing im not sure about is how to do somatic tracking without creating even more focus on sensations ?
Hi Tanner, I’m so grateful to you and Anne and for everything I’ve learnt from you. I’m somatic tracking for fatigue. I am just wondering when to rest and when to keep moving towards the symptoms/somatic track and do graded exposure? Sometimes it feels like I’m just pushing through.
I'm so glad our content is helpful. This is a hard equation to figure out and usually takes some exploring to figure out. It really is a dance between approaching and avoiding. Typically if the symptom or dysregulation is too high it is a good time to use strategic avoidance.
I am desperate to be able to do this practice (or any meditative practice), but I am unable to quiet my mind. Any tips, other than practice, for success? Thanks so much!
I only do somatic tracking with video/sound like this one. But I find it difficult to find the same ease or lightness when im on my own, with thoughts, pain, etc. On a short walk for example.. How to transfer the calm feeling from here to the life out there without somatic videos or sound in the ears ?
I experience this too. I guess it's only natural that we do better with support, even if it's only through a recording. Hopefully it will get better with practice. Keep going! I wish you the best!
But what is the overall goal with Somatic Tracking.. as I understand, it is about not being scared and to feel safe about your pain. But if you cant feel that way out in the big world without sound in your ear.. its like going for a walk with you Mom holding your hand 😅 Of course i takes some time to learn it. But I find it difficult to do outside this little youtube-world. Is there anything you can try to do, to bring the same ease outside om a walk on your own?
@@simonbue4135I get you. I've just started trying to incorporate it into my daily life. Mixed results. I think you just have to keep telling yourself that you're safe when you're doing stuff. That movement is safe. That your brain is misinterpreting safe signals coming up from your body. It's harder when outside. Another trick is to focus on rational brain exercises when outside, such as finding five blue things or five green things or five sentient beings. It distracts the emotional brain. Hard work but keep at it.
Glad it was helpful! It really depends on the person. Generally 2-3 longer ones or 5-7 shorter ones (depending on pain level). It can take some exploring to see what works best for you!

Sorry to hear about your pain. This is a good question and can be difficult. I of course can't say what would be best for your case over social media, as I don't know your case fully. Generally it could be cultivating a sense of safety while walking even if there is not pain (messages of safety and mindfulness). Then doing really brief somatic tracking if the pain comes on intensely (if you can tolerate focusing on it). I hope this is helpful.
I have this exact same situation. Can be so frustrating. For now i just really shortened my solo walks. Like around the block and that’s it. I can walk longer with a friend because conversation distracts me. I can dance for longer and do step aerobix for about 4 songs. So i just am doing what i can tolerate and enjoy for now. It seems to ebb and flow.
