    These metal melting videos are my favorites.
    Thanks for making this world a better place.

    Another brilliant video; nice demonstration that your system works with either a front or back induced burner. You are a genius for simplification of a complex problem and your solution has a very wide range of applications."Talent hits a target that no one else can hit; Genius is hitting a target that no one else can see" Arthur Schopenhauer.

    Years later... Still the best Oil Burner channel out there. We need a blooper reel.

      @glumpy10  3 роки тому

      Thanks mate, Much appreciated. In all honesty, I really can't think of any bloopers other than when I burned through the Crucible in the brick furnace and the ally ran out on the concrete. Other than that, there is nothing that went wrong or I haven't shown. The only other one that comes to mind is when the burner was backfiring which I did a Vid on and that was a feature not a fault!

    Great video. I like how theres a graveyard of old burners in the back round as well haha.
    I got my boiler just about finished and ready to be installed. Only missing piece for my burner is a blower that will move enough air. I also installed a ignition system off a old oil furnace so i dont have as many issues with the burner throwing sparks anymore. New video on my burner soon. :)

    When you see how much heat a piece of steel can take without failing it's gota make you question their 911 BS. Great demonstration.

    • @glumpy10
      @glumpy10  5 років тому

      I don't have anything with 1000 tons of pressure and stress on it. If you look at blacksmiths they can heat a thick steel bar and bend it like butter. Won't budge when it's cold though.

      @@glumpy10 good point however the burn was a carbonizing flame (smoky) not an oxidizing flame.

      Check out my other upright burners. I usually use them for melting. If you want to use this one for a furnace, I'd put 2" inlet pipe on it so you can have plenty of air and heat. A lot of people go to a lot of needless complication and expense for burners which is not at all necessary. They just don't seem to accept that simple and straightforward is actually better.

    your safety tips reminded me that you don't have to out run the lion, you just have to out run the slowest in your herd. that's why you don't let the slowest in the herd set the pace, and why the slowest gets the nickname "lunchmeat". lol!

      +kbbacon I'd almost forgotten what a nice, simple burner this thing is. I have been thinking to build a new, higher power one and add secondary air as well. I thought I might be able to get the flame to really shorten down and have it just produce hot air out the end.

    While I think the basic purpose of this video was achieved as per the torpedo burner instruction, 90% of the value of this video is this guys commentary. Very entertaining and funny while being very informative. Well done sir. (My fav part was the special safety instruction for the idiots and morons not to use this as hiar dryer). hahhahah

      @glumpy10  8 років тому +1

      Thanks again. If you read some of the idiot comments I get you'll see why I started doing safety tips.
      Some people can't be trusted with hot coffee so there is no safety warning too basic for some twits. I'm stepping that up in vids from now on. have a look at my latest one and see what you think.

    Something that might work? Burner heat 'cracks' the oil to vapor. Could not one heat a mass of iron to red heat in say the bbq then stuff it in the tube of a cold burner then apply oil and have the burn going immediately?

    • @glumpy10
      @glumpy10  8 років тому

      +MaruAdventurer you could start the burner on gas and have it going straight off as i originally did and use a lot less gas than the BBQ would to heat the iron.

    do you find that you use more used motor oil with out the siphon nozzle .

    • @glumpy10
      @glumpy10  8 років тому +1

      +Daniel van der torre This is not like a car engine, there is no efficency variable in the combustion. If the flame is burning without smoke, it's a linear output of heat to fuel consumption. So much oil = so much heat output however you burn it.

    *** SAFETY ALERT ***
    As can clearly be seen in this video, this process generates considerable amounts of metal oxide debris ("mill scale"), due to the heating of metal components while exposed to the ambient atmosphere.
    You will be aware that under the current WHS regulations, constructors are required to render their apparatus safe, including provision for foreseeable deliberate misuse.
    An AS/NZS Standard Reasonable Person is able to foresee that the aforementioned metal oxide debris is able to be swept up using readily available implements, rolled into a big fat joint and smoked.
    Further, an AS/NZS SRP is able to foresee that the ensuant toking is almost certain to be devoid of any "high", leading to disabling mental anguish and ongoing trauma.

    Does anyone know if shop vac would give enough air pressure to do something like this?

    • @joandar1
      @joandar1 5 років тому

      I am sure it will deliver enough air from the outlet to do this. How many watts is your shop vac? I am not sure about the one shown here, it is an induction motor. My shop vac is a Universal type (Brushes) and is nearly 2 HP. I don't think the one shown is that powerful. HP or Watts for the most part is an indication of Volume of air at low pressure as opposed to low Volume at higher pressure as in a compressor for example. Hope that helps.
      Cheers from John, Australia.

    • @glumpy10
      @glumpy10  8 років тому +2

      +Matthew CLASSIFIED I have no doubt it would if driven hard enough or into a closed area such as a brick or insulated furnace. There are other vids with different burners melting copper on my channel using the same fuel and blowers so I see no reason this one couldn't as well.

  • @RogerMusson
    @RogerMusson 7 років тому

    Another metal melting video and guess what? Yes, it's the Subaru that's the victim! You seem to have an endless supply of Subaru parts (and oil). What do you guys in Aus do to those Subaru's that only makes them fit for melting?

    • @glumpy10
      @glumpy10  7 років тому +2

      Most people Cook them. Keep driving them with blown head gaskets or busted radiators till the things are half melted by the time they stop. Other thing is people don't check the oil. Very few ever actually wear out, they die through neglect.
      Wait till you see the big melt Vid I have coming up soon hopefully.
