Hey, you're using pounds together with milliliters and kilowatts. Why you're not including such measurement units like scrupulum, urna, libra and cubitum? They've been used in real empire - Roman. Don't you think that since the whole world is using C-system (metric units) except for just two third world countries, then it might be better to use official language of science in your calculations and equations?

So you're trying to say that this world could be a better place if all programming languages and other useful things that help humanity to live a better life have used fractions of some irrational numbers instead of current state of things? Do you know that just 2 countries in the world are still officially using imperial system? It's USA and Nigeria. Do you also know that ANSI, NEMA and all other American institutes use metric system, they convert inches and pounds to mm and kilograms, make calculations and convert back? Do you understand that dividing by 10 is something that you don't have to think about at all? Do you know that you can use your mind for much MUCH more complex calculations and exact equations using rules of the matric system, which is almost impossible to do in imperial system? I believe that you don't even know such rules and you'll need more than a 20 seconds to calculate this (91*43 = ?) using your brain as a single tool for this job. I design, make and sell CNC machines for living, CAD/CAM, several programming languages. I'm here because i'm melting aluminum and brass chips, and want to try and build furnace to melt iron and steel. I'm not making any videos for youtube, because in order to make a nice video that people will like you have to follow the rules. If author wants to attract viewers and subscribers he MUST write and follow a scenario, write his speech, cut/edit video. That's quite a lot of time, but you won't look stupid. If author is willing to share his stupidity with the world - then how can he or his attorneys complain about the laugh of his viewers? My previous post was "thank you" for the video, cause i've watched it all, and at the same time my laugh says "do better next time". As for the warrior part of your post - well you're the one who wants to fight, if you want to continue - go ahead with your comment and we'll have a good laugh I think...

As for your little math problem, I was able to do it in less than 15 seconds in my head. I probably could have done it quicker if I didn't keep looking at my timer. I agree though, if all you have to do is divide by 10, that would seem like a difficult math problem. However, I disagree that you would be able to otherwise do complex math equations. Algebra for instance is full of fractions. (3x+-1)/4 is a fraction. And as we already saw you suggest, you cannot do fractions.
I was about to go on but it's probably not worth it.
A smelter turns iron ore into iron, via a chemical reaction, you've just got a melting furnace. Pretty cool, but not a smelter. Thank you for the upload though I appreciate the content. EDIT, as a further challenge let's see if it gets hot enough to melt and cast mild steel.

Hey boss I've watched probably every forge burner video ur design is simply genius.
This is very similar to a rocket engine. They cool the chamber with the fuel, and have clogging issues like you mentioned. They usually deal with it by filtering the hell out of the fuel, because cooling the chamber with liquid oxygen is difficult.
Heating the air makes much more sense for a foundry though. You're not dealing with liquid oxygen, and filters are expensive.
If you haven't before, you might enjoy reading about impinging, coaxial, swirl, and pintle injectors. They might give you some more ideas.

I did the air drying with 2 inches metal pipe and automatic draing valve by mounting that stuff inside a refrigerator. Work's perfect.

Hey man I never commented on your stuff. But I'm a big fan. I just started my own little thing on tube. I'm really into doing stuff like you. What I'm like is stuff that is effective, efficient, and the only reason it isn't main stream cause nobody wants the liability becouse if your not to bright you can hurt your self lol I made my version of your weed steam machine I still working out the bugs . It works but it isn't constantly pushing out steam. I think it needs more heat
I still need the full explanation regarding fuel pump flowcontrol or do you use wacuum injection? I have seen many different constructions many of them with bad or none explanation on how it works. I am to build a nev furnace first time for melting bronce, and i am impressed of the performance of your burner. Love the concept! I have a medium-sized squirrel cage that I put a treadmill motor and speed controller on... This thing can MOVE some f'n air. You think I'd be able to use it along with compressed air to reduce the psi needed so a smaller compressor can keep up?
Could I possibly use a 100# propane tank as a fuel reservoir, then pressurize it up to ~70-100psi, directly injecting diesel at that pressure?

you should make a pre-cooler for the air coming out of the compressor with a auto drain separator BEFORE the air goes into the tank. the big pulley already works as a fan.

this is a nice burner but two things
1) do you not include the cost of compressing the air in the cost to melt?
2) that weird surface activity you noticed might be set up from the convection currents cooling the iron down, something similar happens if you use powdered milk in coffee
Hi, can i ask a question? I am building a boiler for distillation. i intend to use diesel burners at the bottom. They put out about 80kw each. The still sits on an eclosed skirt of 14mm. Will the burners melt the skirt? The boiler is 1000 liters, 3mm su304 and with a 5mm copper bottom. any precautions i should take with the heat? i will use a fire mix concrete as its stand.

That is pretty impressive considering the simplicity of the burner and it looks very quick and easy to light up. At 6:40 should it be 180kW not 80? I calculated 300ml/min diesel should be about 180kW. Should be noted that the furnace shell insulation plays also a major role, it is not just the burner that makes iron melt. Do you have more details about the furnace you have built? Does it use wool or full refractory insulation? Also I think the silicon carbide crucible also helps to speed up the melt as the thermal conductivity is probably much better than with a conventional clay crucible. I have made a iron melting furnace burning waste oil and diesel. It can melt 1kg of iron in about 25 minutes with about 90kw burner power, but it is tricky to light up and requires additional blower. Compared to mine your burner seems very easy and quick to use. What is the wattage of the air compressor you are using here? I'm interested in the required compressor power level to run these kind of burners.

I bet you could in theory make wootz, which is crucible steel using this furnace. I would like to run a diesel forge. Hot enough to forge weld and make Damascus too.

have you tried a couple of turns for air intake heat ? I`m doing a similar project, round chamber with a 90 deg. swirl chamber.. was wondering if there is an optimum air temp to target.. your burner is SERIOUS... nice job
you dont want to exceed 300 deg or build up clogs the burner after just hours of operation . a single turn is all it takes to hit that sweat spot , any hotter and you boil fuel and thats bad for tiny fuel lines as the gases occupy space fuel should be in and th burner can starve out
The more heat the air carries pre combustion the less you spend on fuel, there is a spot where the hot air will corrode the pipe but that is above 800 degrees for stainless.
What HP motor is turning your 4cyl compressor? Looks bigger than 5 maybe a 10?
I come from a long line of foundry workers my grandfather work the steel foundries in Vermont and then owned foundry on Lincoln Street in Boston Massachusetts and then my father work for my grandfather and I used to go in at 6 in the morning make cores and fire up the furnace I remembered so well in that roaring sound was awesome we used to do aluminum Foundry it was so cool is right one Burger King just started and I was only about 10 I go into work with him was pretty cool always wanted a little mini Foundry nice job man..whopper was like 50 cents..mass.pike highway took over land were foundry was...eminent domain..changed everything for GRANPA FOR FUCKIN SURE

luckygen 1001 has some good videos on melting cast iron with used motor oil with a small amount of kerosene in it and he also uses propane as a preheat before starting the oil but this is a forced-air system using a vacuum motor so it is not the same as your system, I think he melts 20 pounds in 20 minutes not sure to the exact time or amount but it is close enough.
What type of airflow was used? I got lots of desil and kerosene to dilute my oil to make it easier to flow. I don't have the one that loops the air over the burner because I only need to do aluminum. Also what is the hottest fuel? I have a smaller compressor, but I think it can handle my plasma torch and probably this I just hope I don't fry it from the heavy use.

Zeus is not as powerful or as hot . meaning this can melt a bigger crucible of metal and get hotter then the Zeus

If you had a second burn chamber where the round nozzle is in line with the first nozzle and added air from a blower and more fuel would it increase the temperature or just make more BTU

To elaborate your comment on steam, the (normally) maximum temperature of steam is 100deg celcius or 212f, after it reaches that it will expand 2700x it's volume and find somewhere to escape. This is my it works so well in turbines but that means water is great at reducing temps
Well yes and no the 100 deg max temp for steam only applies to a kettle of boiling water my friend , if the steam is exposed to hot metal it will increas in temp. a mono tube boiler can produce 2000 deg steam at 1 psi even under that but you need a litte pressure for flow . The 212 deg steam is just an old science book explanation. For an engineer its detail details details , the 212 deg rule does not apply here . this steam could theoretically reach 300 deg as that is the temp of the pre systems . the outer loop is even hotter .

With this setup that you got you can easily burn used motor oil instead propane.
Can you preheat the air in the top exhaust? (not let the heat escape anywhere). If you were to use a gaseous fuel would it work preheating the fuel as well?

Will this burner also be suitable for lower temperature burns like aluminum or copper? I suspect that a lower temperature burn with this hardware will result in incomplete combustion. Is that true?

You can create Diesel from waste oil... just mix 2/3 Wasteoil with 1/3 Kerosin.... Enjoy ULTRA cheap diesel :-)

Furnace. You built a burner for a furnace, not a foundry. A foundry is the place where castings are made. It should normally NOT be on fire at all. Except for inside the furnace.
Yes technically you are correct but on colloquial level most people say forge for device that gets metal hot and foundry for a device that melts metal . I do not disagree at all .

Hey man, I tried to build something similar after watched your videos but im having an issue, the air pushes the oil backward and send back to the container i keep the oil and the oil starts bubble inside the container, it doesn’t spray oil at all, its was just pushing the oul backward, can you help me why this’ll happens? Will really appreciate your words
I'm not sure but I believe if you extend the fuel line to just past the air inlet it should resolve the problem
The only way air can get back through your oil supply line is if the air pressure is greater than the weight of oil in the line. Either your air input is somehow blowing into the oil supply line or the chamber where the oil and air mix is realizing a pressure increase to the point air is being forced back up the oil inlet line.
Or ur fuel is boiling inside the line and creating pressure where u would want ur vacuum that's assuming it was doing this after coming to temperature, if it was doing it before u even got it lit then obviously u don't have ur air and fuel ports spaces or designed properly therefore ur not creating the Venturi effect needed to siphon ur fuel and r actually doing the opposite

At those temperatures sweat dripping in can cause it to turn to steam so fast and water expands something like 600 times volume when it goes to steam. I have emptied a 50 pound batch of molten lead from a few drops hitting the metal! Happens so fast ! I think he has experienced similar issues
