    I credit this movie with interesting me into learning more about signing, and getting to understand a bit more about the deaf and hard of hearing communities (I hope I'm using the correct and respectful terms). Very good to see you back and making more videos!

    When Nishimiya says "everything is always my fault. So I thought I would just disappear"...oh man, my heart SHATTERS. Eyes water. I wish I could just hug her in that moment. Thank you so much for this video. Learning the signs help me understand the characters conversations and emotions better

    I admire sign language though it’s difficult for me to learn due to high school and my learning disability. But I love how you’re interpreting and explaining the differences between the signs of JSL to ASL. A Silent Voice is the reason I wanted to study ASL but it’s something I’ll do in the future. Love your videos. ありがとうございます (thank you)

    Thank you for making this! It's okay that it took a while. I couldn't find anyone else who explains the sign language in this movie (some give a tiny bit but not much). I tried to figure out some of the JSL you didn't cover before but wasn't able to do it. I don't know Japanese and google translate isn't good enough to properly translate any of the websites that I found for JSL, so it wasn't long before I decided that I probably wasn't going to be able to learn what those signs meant unless you made more videos on this. Unless I learned lots of Japanese and possibly JSL as well, but as I'm sure you're aware, time is precious, so I won't be able to do that anytime in the foreseeable future. If I do end up having time at some point to learn Japanese/ASL/JSL then I'll definitely use your videos like this one, so please keep them online. Thank you again for making this!

    I am glad to see ya back! I am curious, what has your process been learning a second signed language? It seems like it would be a difficult journey given how sign languages tend to remain mostly in their respective countries. I don’t know any JSL beyond a few signs and phrases from your videos, but I am a fluent ASL speaker- English is my first language, but your ASL is native level to my eyes! May I ask your native language/language you feel most comfortable communicating in?

      I grew up in NYC. My parents are Deaf and used ASL. I then moved to Japan and learned JSL. I’ve moved back to the USA for many years now. My JSL is fading… I need to keep practicing and talking with my JSL friends in Japan via video chat.

    what's fun about japanese is that it's incredibly contextual. words or verbs, even in different conjugative forms, can me vastly different things. It's one of the reasons I love the language so much. And then there's signing, and hooooo boy does it get even more fun. A single sign is a myriad number of things, in the context of who, what, where, and why! One of a nuuumber of reasons I kinda detest english. I'm a native english speaker and take my time to study my own words, but.. maybe it's a 'grass is always greener' thing? *shrugs*

    • @uMaud
      @uMaud 7 місяців тому

      My native language is French and funnily enough, my father dislikes English for the same reason you love Japanese. In French, it's rare when a word has more than two different meanings. When he searches for the definition of a word he doesn't know in English, he ends up with at least 10 different possible meanings and sometimes needs to ask me what the most likely meaning is. In comparison to a language like German, where one word only means one thing and there's a word for pratically everything, including some abstract things that need a full sentence to be explained in French or English.

    Hey, I noticed that Shōyo Nishimiya the main heroine, and Shōya the main protagonist both have the ō in their names when romanized which I’ve seen equated with the letters ou and I know other anime characters that have the same ō in their names when romanized particularly with the syllable Shō. I’m curious how you would fingerspell that same syllable Shō in JSL. If having the kana helps here it is. しょう. Thanks in advance.

    • @DeafJapanTV
      @DeafJapanTV  7 місяців тому

      The small よ is done by using the JSL finger spelling よ then pulling your hand back towards yourself slightly.
