Mr. Schlitt, Thank you for being an inspiration to me. I grew up in a strong Christian home in the 80’s/90’s, in Mississippi. I grew up on your (& many other good Christian artist’s) music. I was in 5th grade (‘91) when I got Beyond Belief. I already had the cassette This Means War! This was my 2nd. I would have my devotional every morning, and then get ready for school listening to this album. I would then ride my bike to my best friend’s house, singing these songs all along. We would then ride to school singing together, laughing, and talking. (Looking back, it’s crazy really that we would ride 5 miles minimum in a college town of 25,000 every morning through morning traffic.) I got your next 3 albums- this one and Unseen Power were tied as my favorite. After that, I got into what I thought at the time was “real music,” like Bob Dylan, The Beatles, The Dead, LED Zeppelin, and on and on- the usual. I became a Taoist, then Buddhist, then New Age/Wiccan. I was practicing my “powers” in “white magic” at this point. I was going through the beginning of a divorce at the time but didn’t know it yet. I was staying at home with my oldest son at the time (6) while my wife was 2 hours away in the hospital with our youngest son (4) at the time. When I heard her lover was taking her food to the hospital and would see my son instead of me, true Rage entered my heart. I then “focused all my energy” into wrecking his car. Things became very still in our living room. I found out 15 minutes later that he had been in a pile up on the interstate. He had not been hurt. Unfortunately I didn’t take that as a warning or hint from the Lord. It took the divorce, another relationship (with a real witch), a breakup, getting hooked on pain pills, then finding another woman (who had been sexually abused so badly she had severe personality issues and was put in jail twice for beating me up), until I had enough. Believe it or not I had been slowly coming back to The Lord upon re-meeting her. (We had grown up together, but were not close; only acquaintances.) I found my way back to The Lord, and my relationship with Him has only grown since. He is everything to me. I am crying typing this. I’ve now been revisiting Unseen Power and Beyond Belief (along with Keith Green, Rich Mullins, and Steven Curtis Chapman) every morning before work for the last year or so. One of my fondest memories growing up was the summer after 6th grade (‘93) all 3 of my brothers were now moved away and in college. The two twins took me that summer to see Petra in concert at Six Flags over Texas, in Dallas. The first thing you said was, “Are you ready to check your oil, Dallas?” (We laughed so hard, out of excitement and because it was funny.) And you opened with Midnight Oil. We were pumped!!! Thank you John Schllit for being responsible for singing this divine masterpiece, I knew this song through my father, in 1996 he bought the Beyond Belief LP and used to play when I was kid at the end of 90's, but this music even years after I grew up, Sometimes when I feel Down, I just listen these songs to calm down. Petra kept me on the right path in the eighties and beyond, wore out those cassettes in my 1973 Buick Gran Sport with the AM Eight Track and cassette adapter, some friends thought I was crazy not listening to the top forty junk. Love the AMC Javelin in the video, passed up a couple, now they're pretty desirable.
Me too! The AMC Javelin reminds me of my first car, a '72 Challenger. Except I never drove it through the desert, or even got a flat-ha! Funny thing is, when I got saved in 1980, I lost my desire for keeping it. Nevertheless, I still love these Petra songs and videos! They still encourage me in my faith. Jeff

Just listened to the collab you did with Dan Vasc and it brought back memories of Christmas when my cousin would bring out his Petra tapes. Best part of the family Christmas get togethers. Keep inspiring young musicians!!!! We need a lot more singing talent in this world.
The band Petra was introduced to me and my sisters and my mom by the pastor's teenage daughters at the church we were attending back then. Before seeing their Beyond Belief videos and having been exposed to their bold Christian lyrics mixed with quality rock band style music I wasn't sure if it was right in God's sight for a Christian to produce any kind of music that sounded too rebellious and "worldly".

Hey there, just figured out this thing recently. John explained it... Basically there's more to the Christian life after you're saved. You don't stop there. Neither does God. God is calling us for a lifetime of faith and holiness and full devotion to Him. This Christian life we're called to goes beyond belief (your moment of salvation)
