My aunt bought this cd for me when I was 16 in hopes that it would lead me to Christ. I rejected it and Him. Oh what a mistake. I spent the next decades drowning in addiction and misery. But even so the Lord was faithful! Praise Jesus for never leaving or forsaking me and taking me back!

As an active member of the church, it wasn’t acceptable for me to feel the way that I felt… this song/band led me threw a dark time when I was just told to pray…. And btw Creed is almost solely responsible for bringing back hard rock/heavy metal at a time when no one was listening to it…

I'm agnostic and learned of this song because of a remix done of it. Whether you're a person of faith, spiritual, agnostic or atheist the song's message can be appreciated by all. Sometimes it's a friend who lifts us up and sometimes it's something or someone else. As I always say, good music is universal.
This song is profoundly strong. When it came out I listened to many alternative songs. My young son was 5 and he could sing this song word for word. It’s the one that got to him and that was moving. He always asked mom play flood song.
@Holly Cranfan little memories like that from my childhood is what draws me back to God when my faith is wavering. Some songs had a profound impact on me when I knew i had been falling further from God, including this song being one of them. I am grateful for growing up listening to Christian music.
T.L. Spitz...you are EXACTLY RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙏⚡🙏 GOD is ALWAYS there for us even if we think he's not there or not listening. He puts the right songs in front of us to comfort us, the right people, Christians ✝️, the right circumstances etc....He is an awesome and loving God ❤ ♥ 💖
The song's production, helmed by the renowned former King Crimson guitarist and superbrilliant solo artist: Adrian Belew, bestowed upon it a sonorous richness akin to an auditory deluge. Belew employed a unique "over-compression" technique, opting to expand the sound's dynamic range rather than compressing the spectrum, resulting in a distinctive sonic experience. Beyond producing, Belew also lent his musical prowess to the track by playing certain string parts and orchestrating the captivating middle section of 'Flood.' His contributions rendered the song truly one-of-a-kind, leaving a lasting impression with its unparalleled sound.
I was about 10 years old when my older sister would play this on her radio and I always loved it! I’m 36 now & It definitely means something completely different than it did when I was a kid! I love songs that are timeless like this one! Classic! ❤
I went to both public schools and a private school in my youth. There wasn't much of a difference. I remember the day I got expelled from my last school in 2005 and i cried like there was no tomorrow. I grew up in church but I had a fall out with God at 17. For 16 years I doubted myself. Im now 33 but I never thought I would be here this long. Ive been muddy and dirty for a long time. I got the courage to tell me what to do last night. I dont pretend to be sane but I was never understood until today. My girlfriend is my lifeline and i want her to be with me until its over. I was an alcoholic and addicted to lean but im now 7 years sober. Im a father of 3 and a good one at that. I needed help I couldn't have found on my own. So I went to the Rock of my foundation and said kill me or let me drown. I dont want to be with you but I am not worthy....now I can say with pride that God found me and washed all the mud away. Im going to be ok man...so yea this is still relevant in 2024 just like it always will be.
Rain rain on my face It hasn't stopped Raining for days My world is a flood Slowly I become One with the mud But if I can't swim after 40 days And my mind is crushed By the crashing waves Lift me up so high That I cannot fall Lift me up Lift me up when I'm falling Lift me up I'm weak and I'm dying Lift me up I need you to hold me Lift me up and keep me from drowning again Down pour on my soul Splashing in the ocean I'm losing control Dark sky all around Can't feel my feet Touching the ground But if I can't swim after 40 days And my mind is crushed By the crashing waves Lift me up so high That I cannot fall Lift me up Lift me up when I'm falling Lift me up I'm weak and I'm dying Lift me up I need you to hold me Lift me up and keep me from drowning again Calm the storms that drench my eyes And dry the streams still flowing Casting down all waves of sin And guilt that overthrow me But if I can't swim after 40 days And my mind is crushed By the crashing waves Lift me up so high That I cannot fall Lift me up Lift me up when I'm falling Lift me up I'm weak and I'm dying Lift me up I need you to hold me Lift me up and keep me from drowning again Lift me up, when I'm falling Lift me up, I'm weak and I'm dying Lift me up, I need you to hold me Lift me up, and keep me from drowning again
Any atheists on here love this song? because I am and I love this song. Then again I was 6 when this song came out so I didn't know what it was about. My mom was a rocker and loved music so I loved most 90s music especially the music she listened to. I remember her having a Jars of Clay CD among many many other great albums from 90s 80s 70s. I am so grateful for the music she introduced me to but as of late all that great music that has always brought me back to good times and made me feel good is now making me sad. My mother passed away this past Christmas eve. I hope that one day this music will make me happy like it did before and make me think of the good times with my mother. Anyway been listening to this song since I was 6 years old and now I'm 27. man I miss those days so much good music.
" Any atheists on here love this song? " Absolutely. I always loved the melody and the vocal harmonies. What a soothing voice that guy has. I wish you to have the same good times you had before losing your mom.
Jars of Clay, the Kry, Steven C Chapman, Michael W. Smith, Newsboys, DC Talk, TobyMac, Petra, Jeremy Camp, Third Day, Casting Crowns. Anyone else's childhood sounds this familiar? 🤔
You should check out the "Christian Illuminati" series on the Jeremiah Cohen channel so you understand these guys are actually satanic sellouts. Wolves in sheep's clothing, Scripture calls them 👍
For those struggling with addiction: read the bible and get to know God DAILY, get baptized and receive the holy spirit (if you haven't been already), pray to God for deliverance when you feel urges (and whenever), and talk to some trustworthy God-fearing friends to help support to you and keep you accountable. You may not feel like you can overcome it, but Jesus is victorious over the world and you can do anything through him.
Such a versatile song, although i am glad it's underlying grasp is truly about walking with God. Stick with it everyone, you can do it. No matter what you're going through!
When I was soaked in drug addiction, the beginning of the end was hearing this song over and over! Thanku so much jars of clay-4this song 2get me over the nitemare of addiction!!!God bless u all!777.gbu
I love this song so much. I loved Christian music back then so much better than now, you just don't get the same emotion, and presence of God in today's Christian music, as opposed to older Christian music.
Popped up on my feed. Haven’t listened to this in decades but God knew I needed it right here, right now. 😭 literally helped calm my anxiety and to focus on God, my fortress.
Me Too!!! Randomly popped up in my feed too. At the Right Time. Praise Jesus. Thank you God for your intervention. And help anyone hearing this song. God please help anyone hearing this song. Jesus, we submit.
I have been trying to find this song again for a while. I'm almost sure that I didn't know that it was a Christian song the first time I heard it, and even though I'm a Christian, that point was always a huge part of the song's appeal to me. ANYONE can enjoy this.
This Christian band has the best of the best. I've been through a flood of turmoil my entire life from Brain surgeries and having a ventriculoperitoneal (V/P) shunt placed at birth. I was born at eight months (or 32 weeks premature), weighing two pounds and five ounces. I've been extremely hard on myself. But I had God on my side. He was doing the unthinkable miracle, and I've had twenty-seven surgeries (my last one was in November 2009). I had my shunt permanently removed. I haven't had any problems since then.
Im atheist and this song just caught my ears on an episode of "crashing". I don't give a shit if it's Christian music. I don't hear any of that. I just hear a good sounding song. The vocals, the guitar. Sounds killer.
I love this music; so uplifting. I can imagine when Noah's ship began to lift into the waters of the world, leaving behind the whole world; what he and his family must've been feeling, as God was protecting them, to bring them to a new life, a new world....
Most Christian rock disgusts me on a purely artistic level but this does Christianity justice in my humble opinion. It appeals to me in the way traditional Christian music does highlighting the yearning for God over the self satisfaction of someone who thinks themselves holier than thou.
I came across a jimmy fallon clip on youtube. One of the guests guessed "jars of clay" and i couldnt for the life of me remember a single song. Man, they are still so good. The grunge of christian rock.

It's not everyday that a Christian rock band cracks the top 40
Did “The Call” break?
Happens all the time. A ton of what's on the radio are christian bands that got burned out playing on only christian venues. Skillet for one.
I remember first hearing this song on secular radio station. My spirit perked up and I said WHAT is this?
🤔👍🏽“ - Creed hit #1 - with “With Arms Wide Open” - but they denied that they were a “Christian rock band” , sounded like that to me though - “ 👍🏽🤔
this sing brought me through my first 40 days of recovery
ithaley stay strong brother. hope you're still clean and serene from whatever you were struggling with. praying for you.
Scotty Van Reeth , thank you man! all things are possible through Christ. I have had ups and downs, but have managed to stay clean 432 consecutive days since I surrendered my old way of life to god.

Jars of Clay canción "Flood", de su álbum debut, fue utilizada como tema de A & E documental de 2006 Dios o la chica, que seguía la vida de cuatro jóvenes de decidir si convertirse en sacerdotes católicos
Definitely one of the best songs ever and underrated.
we lifted ourselves up as that was how we were raised.
I'm agnostic and learned of this song because of a remix done of it. Whether you're a person of faith, spiritual, agnostic or atheist the song's message can be appreciated by all. Sometimes it's a friend who lifts us up and sometimes it's something or someone else. As I always say, good music is universal.
Exactly how I feel!
That's the beauty of music....everyone can find what they need in it and it could be different from person to person
this song never gets old
I'm not even Christian and this song is still a banger.
This song makes me cry,,joyfully!
The acoustic groove in this song is soooooo good.
Thank you for the insight 🥰
Quite a departure from Big Electric Cat , in subject matter.
Clearly, he's a musical genius
COOL! i love king crimson

One of the best debut songs and albums of all time. Absolute classic.

i used to jam to it in the 90's. i honestly had never realized it was a Christian rock song
I was about 10 years old when my older sister would play this on her radio and I always loved it! I’m 36 now & It definitely means something completely different than it did when I was a kid! I love songs that are timeless like this one! Classic! ❤
2024...anyone?????
Still relevant
👍
Since 20 years before 😅

I thank God for this song
Rain rain on my face
It hasn't stopped
Raining for days
My world is a flood
Slowly I become
One with the mud
But if I can't swim after 40 days
And my mind is crushed
By the crashing waves
Lift me up so high
That I cannot fall
Lift me up
Lift me up when I'm falling
Lift me up I'm weak and I'm dying
Lift me up I need you to hold me
Lift me up and keep me from drowning again
Down pour on my soul
Splashing in the ocean
I'm losing control
Dark sky all around
Can't feel my feet
Touching the ground
But if I can't swim after 40 days
And my mind is crushed
By the crashing waves
Lift me up so high
That I cannot fall
Lift me up
Lift me up when I'm falling
Lift me up I'm weak and I'm dying
Lift me up I need you to hold me
Lift me up and keep me from drowning again
Calm the storms that drench my eyes
And dry the streams still flowing
Casting down all waves of sin
And guilt that overthrow me
But if I can't swim after 40 days
And my mind is crushed
By the crashing waves
Lift me up so high
That I cannot fall
Lift me up
Lift me up when I'm falling
Lift me up I'm weak and I'm dying
Lift me up I need you to hold me
Lift me up and keep me from drowning again
Lift me up, when I'm falling
Lift me up, I'm weak and I'm dying
Lift me up, I need you to hold me
Lift me up, and keep me from drowning again
I remember being 13 and hearing this song for the first time, still the most lyrically powerful song I’ve ever heard.
Absolutely. I always loved the melody and the vocal harmonies. What a soothing voice that guy has. I wish you to have the same good times you had before losing your mom.
Their song All My Tears is just as good. I'm not big on religion but do enjoy spiritually lifting music.
Thank you Monte, I'll listen to the title All My Tears.
I am an Atheist and I like Jars Of Clay.
sooner my bro.
God Bless Jars of Clay and Everyone Listening to it!
Jars of Clay, the Kry, Steven C Chapman, Michael W. Smith, Newsboys, DC Talk, TobyMac, Petra, Jeremy Camp, Third Day, Casting Crowns. Anyone else's childhood sounds this familiar? 🤔
That was my favorite years
Yes until I heard Kurt Cobain sing for the first time and my life was changed.
Well i should say my musical horizon changed.
You should check out the "Christian Illuminati" series on the Jeremiah Cohen channel so you understand these guys are actually satanic sellouts.
Wolves in sheep's clothing, Scripture calls them 👍
How come you don't have any black Christian Artists in your life?
For those struggling with addiction: read the bible and get to know God DAILY, get baptized and receive the holy spirit (if you haven't been already), pray to God for deliverance when you feel urges (and whenever), and talk to some trustworthy God-fearing friends to help support to you and keep you accountable.
You may not feel like you can overcome it, but Jesus is victorious over the world and you can do anything through him.
Such a versatile song, although i am glad it's underlying grasp is truly about walking with God. Stick with it everyone, you can do it. No matter what you're going through!
This is one of those songs you have to listen to twice
mattman337 you mean 3 times in a row
twisted endever was gonna say, several times in a row 😉
You mean 4?
I just listened 7 in a row in 2024
ANOTHER GREAT CHRISTIAN ROCK PRAISE SONG !!!! PRAISE THE LORD NOW AND FOREVER!!!!!!

Saw them live back in 2011 with Mercyme and other artists. They actually played this song. Biggest show I ever went to. Had a good time.
It's so good to know we can cry out to our Lord Jesus. Oh, the mercy, oh, the love. Thanks to Our God, who is so good.
Yes.
Same thing here today.
You and I both, my brother ! 🙏

This was me and my grandmas favorite song growing up, I lost her this year to cancer, i feel like she's still here with me when i hear it
I remember when this was one of the first/only Christian band songs that had a regular rotation on MTV.
Gosh, I'm old.
Song is still great, though.
The first song that my wife and I listened too together 20 years ago, still a good song, timeless!!!!@jars of clay
This song is very inspiring! I love listening to it again and again!
My mom loved Jars of Clay and she'd dance to this when i was a kid :D
So many of the comments here are about our moms.
Is it safe to say that this song changed Christian contemporary music for ever ?
I have been trying to find this song again for a while. I'm almost sure that I didn't know that it was a Christian song the first time I heard it, and even though I'm a Christian, that point was always a huge part of the song's appeal to me. ANYONE can enjoy this.
Back in my high school days I heard this song and helped me through some tough times. It always affects me when I play it.
I am not a Christian but this song helps me feel less scared
Saw them live, Winterfest, Gatlinburg TN. Truly one of the best concerts i have ever had the privilege of attending.
let us rely on you and you alone Lord
This Christian band has the best of the best. I've been through a flood of turmoil my entire life from Brain surgeries and having a ventriculoperitoneal (V/P) shunt placed at birth. I was born at eight months (or 32 weeks premature), weighing two pounds and five ounces. I've been extremely hard on myself. But I had God on my side. He was doing the unthinkable miracle, and I've had twenty-seven surgeries (my last one was in November 2009). I had my shunt permanently removed. I haven't had any problems since then.
Thank God for You
❤

Im atheist and this song just caught my ears on an episode of "crashing". I don't give a shit if it's Christian music. I don't hear any of that. I just hear a good sounding song. The vocals, the guitar. Sounds killer.

Had this song on CD on active duty in the Marines.
Great song still, helped me threw living hell......Thank you guys!!
Heard this the other day on the radio now I can't get it out of my head. Reminds me of where I live, Oregon
I'm weak and dying,my heart aches for salvation,my mind is crushed by life's waves...Help
It's the string quartet at 1:54... haunting.
I am shocked this ever had as much play on mainstream radio as it had. But I'm glad it did.
This song has got me through some tough times recently. Can't believe that I have never heard it before. Hat tip to ScottyMar10
