Thank you so much. I was hoping this was possible. My family wouldn't be happy if the power went out and we lost all our hot dogs in the frig / freezer. Having some preserved on the shelf means food security...even for hot dogs.
I have seen them sliced in rounds and canned with barbeque sause or sliced in rounds and canned with onions and peppers. I love hot dogs. I think there is a lot worse things we can eat than a hot dog.
4 for a dollar, score!! I have to try this now. I experimented canning them in water, that was a mistake, they blew up in size like your hot ones did but tasted like watered down hotdogs having absorbed it all. Thanks!
I usually can them either dry (like the all beef franks) or with a little beef or chicken stock. When I can them in water I also find that they taste washed out.
I LOVE hot dogs. I just bought a bunch at the store marked down too. I want to can them next week so I was going to check your channel to see if you made a video about canning hot dogs and this one popped up. Thank you so much friend. Hugs
I love hot dogs!!!!!! I don't really care if people judge me for eating them. They are a great, ready to go meal. I live in a hurricane area. I love the idea of ready to eat food like hot dogs in case the power goes out :)
@@FyreflyesFollies that sounds really good. I cook for just myself as well and I love seeing how to do the small batches of stuff. I am new to canning and have learned a lot by watching your videos :)
I canned some hot dogs before too. They tasted smoked after I opened the jars. Weirdest thing though, when I opened the jar the hotdogs sucked in and collapsed on themselves and they all got stuck together into one group.. but they slid out and I was able to pull them apart with a fork fairly easily and they were good eatin' straight out of the jar. I also threw them in a little butter and fried them and they were really good. I used the tall pint and a half jars usually used for canning asparagus and they fit alot better. I also filled the jar up with enough liquid to reach one inch head space and it worked out pretty good. No siphoning. But by the way I forgot to mention what hot dogs I used. I used a hot dog made at a local butcher shop made from Buffalo and pork. And they were the very long ones. One pound cost 8.99 a pound because they were made with Buffalo and were smoked so they were very tasty.
@@FyreflyesFollies yep.. you found the same exact result that I did. It does make them so much more tastier😊 I forgot to mention in my first comment that I compared them with regular hotdogs and actually used the same brand that you did.. and they tasted smoked just like the buffalo dogs I canned. It was pretty cool! I canned both types separately in different jars and had fun doing a comparison taste test. I should have recorded it and put up a video but I just haven't had the courage like you have lol!
@@FyreflyesFollies I want to do it again and try different brands from the store and see if they turn out the same. I know for a fact that some brands won't react the same to canning them such as those nasty Oscar Meyer ones just by my experience with the ones I have canned already I can tell.. I wouldn't even bother trying those. I would stick to the beef hot dogs if possible. It's the chicken and pork one that blow up the most because they are the ones that are processed with alot of water added to the hot dog which makes them swell up when you boil them and they start to split. Any hotdogs that split when boiling them I wouldn't try canning... . I want to try the Deitzs and Watson brand all beef hot dogs and see what happens. But definitely if anybody wants to can hotdogs I would avoid doing the ones made with chicken because they split and swell a huge amount while just boiling them straight from the package into a pot on the stove. And I hate that when that happens. I don't bother buying chicken hotdogs anymore because of that one problem. I hate split hot dogs.
@@grangran632 the last place I was able to snatch them up was on the Walmart shelf. I talked to a manager at one of the stores and she told me I can have them ordered and delivered at the store for pick up or, go into the aisle where the canning jars would be and check the labels on the lip of the shelves and see if they have a label on the shelf for them. If they do and they are out you can ask a manager in the store when will be there next delivery and best day for you to come and be there to grab some before they are gone. That's what I did. But since spring is here, stop by at the Walmart and start looking for them because Walmart stocks up at the very beginning of spring with all sorts of size canning jars. They will even stack them in the center of a floor aisle. If you need jars, starting now would be a terrific time to start keeping an eye out for entire lots to come in the stores as a seasonal item.

Hi Fryflye just wondering if I would be able to cut the hot dogs and can like snacking size, like Vienna sausage? My mommy is 80 and loves those little Vienna sausages. Thanks a bunch I appreciate your videos and love watching?
I wonder if you pricked the skins if they wouldn't bloat? I'm not a hot dog fan, haven't had one since I was a kid. My grandfather liked the kosher kind with the natural casings. I thank you for this video and your knowledge. My grandchildren love hotdogs so I'll try to find some jars. It's pretty well empty around my area. At what altitude did you can the hotdogs? And what pressure? I watched some other people's videos and tried them and my hotdogs exploded. I had 18 pints of field brand and got 11 sealed.
