David Soul's battle with that jeep door goes on the entire movie and is nothing short of epic!
The dead boy visiting his friend in the middle of the night, scratching on the window is pure nightmare fuel and still holds up today.
It does ! In those days they had no fancy CG effects ... they relied on pure acting .
DANNY AND RALPHIE GLICK, THE GLICK BOYS!
Yessss! And his “dead” eyes! 👍👍👍
@@CronesBones DANNY AND RALPHIE GLICK
When I or my Brother were in the bathroom, the other would scratch on the door and quietly say "let me iiinnnnn" lol would scare the shit out of each other.
That floating vampire child in the window caused many nightmares as a kid
You and so many others! My Godmother had nightmares for weeks
Not me I love all of Sk movies. My sister was into the bloody stuff like texas chain saw massacre. That was ok we'd watch lot spooky stuff even if it was late and our parents went to sleep. I was the SK fan. I still have christine on vhs.ebay loved me. It would scare our cousins but we'd just laugh when they raned out the room. Now I'm an adult, married with children. My husband will watch after the wee ones in the bed by 9. I can't wait. Najj.
still freaks me out to this day!
Me too!
Me too haha 🤣
"Salem's Lot"(1979) is one of the best Vampire horror movies of all time, and the most scariest of them for sure!
THE best vampire and vampire movie ever. RIP David Soul. No remake needed. This movie / series scared the crap out of my generation!
This film scared the shit out of me!. Even today it still holds up as an iconic vampire film.
Exactly that is what coppolas dracula or interview with the vampire or lost boys could not do,,.....toby hooper master of horror,,
too bad it was made during the worst fashion period in all of human history...
Damn, your Statement is Gospel.
Loook at meeeee... or Mark open the window
One of favorite childhood movies. I'm 51 and no matter how many times I've seen this movie it still freaks me out.
Im 52. It's still my favorite. I even live in an old victorian house because I wanted that vibe. My youngest loves it...my oldest daughter is convinced its haunted. Good times!
Same here man! I'm 50 in August! Too many scenes to mention. Glowing eyes while sitting in a chair!!
I'm 51 and it was the scariest movie I've watched as a kid.
You have to pay to see a 45 year old made for tv movie nowadays.Aren't things better?
I don't think a lot of people realise the impact of this TV series.
Everything that came before was Hammer Horror type movies and Dracula had been demoted to ice lollies, yes ice lollies with a blood red middle.
This movie scared the shit out of me because the scratching on window of creepy vampire. I was scared it would happen at my window. This was my scariest movie I would pick as a kid.
Me too. I was afraid to go to the window.
I was about 12 at the time. This is still a scary movie to me!
Yeah it was the scratching at the window, scared the shit out of me when i was 9 or 10,
The same! tRuLy TeRrIfYiNg!!
Me too! I may have watched this movie a bit too soon. It haunted me for most of my youth. I love it, though.
It's settled, I'm watching Salem's Lot and Return to Salem's Lot tonight
Hahaha
Don't bother with Return. It's dire and unrelated, just made to look that way to get you to watch it. Try it and see...
Don't bother with the sequel it's absolutely terrible 💩
Same I just bought the VHS off eBay lol
@@throttlebot Agreed. The sequel is remarkably bad. Love the original, though.
This is the only vampire that seriously scared the crap outta me
The scene where the kid vampire is scratching on his friends bedroom window at night wanting in freaks me the "F" out still to this day!
That scene still messes with me too at 53! Lol
@@michaelherring6862 same age as me.
RALPHIE AND DANNY GLICK!
@@horror-metal-mike4320 The Glick brothers.....still creeps me out!!!
@@robbalsley9722 The part that scared me the most was LOOK AT ME TEACHER scene! Mike in the rocking chair scene!
I remember when Salem’s Lot premiered. I was 9 years old and this movie scared the crap out of me! I actually have the movie on VHS!
Scared the crap out of me as well...
Same I was 9 in 1979 as well😂
I was 16 and when Danny Glick rapped on that window, I got chills LOL Great movie!
I was the same age when I first saw it. I still can watch it today, with the same enthusiasm. Classic horror.
@Bill Tee, right!
I remember watching this movie with my cousins at our grandparents' house. Still think it has the best vampires ever! Loved seeing the real locations, especially with so many of them being exactly the same as the movie. There's definitely nothing like 70s horror.
Still THE best Horror ever.. it absolutely wrecked me as a young un, I slept with my parents for several nights because of it... but as I got older my appreciation, and then love of it grew... I would have gotten the strangest feelings being where you were... Thanks for this. I'm loving your videos guys 🤜🤛
agreed this one and the exorcist I slept with my brother for a week lol
I agree 💯, I love Salem's lot. I was 7 in 79' when I saw it and it wrecked me too lol.
@JulieHannah-lg7fy Have you also watched it lots since? I enjoy everything about it now... except 'the master'... that damn jail cell moment 😂
@@ianmansfield1112 yes loads lol. I used to have it on VHS but lost it so I bought it off prime on my Roku last year and have watched it about 10 times since buying it lol. I'm hoping the remake coming out soon will be good . I just heard it's gonna stream on Max this fall. I'm sure it won't be as good as the original but hopefully still pretty good. Nice to know another fan of Salem's lot 👍😊
I remember when this first aired on TV, I was in High School.... it was a two night mini series I think... scared that crap out of me at the time, it was awesome....
I was 9 and it REALLY scared me!
Fangs down still the best modern day vampire mini series with proper nasty scary vamps! Excellent location filming as always, cheers!
This movie was made the year I graduated, Just bought the DVD.
Thank you guys for doing this! Salem's Lot was one of my big intros into horror as a kid, so it holds a special place in my heart. "The Master wants YOU!"
Yeah, this movie freaked me out back in 79. The two brothers as vampires were the creepiest scenes. I always thought this was filmed in New England somewhere. NOW, I need to drive here since I’m already in CA.
There are towns on the northern coast that give off that NE vibe. Remember Murder She Wrote?
One of the best movie adaptations from King, still creeps me out, would love to visit that town one day!
This was my favourite film as a kid. When I watched it again as an adult I couldn’t believe how long it was. Imagine being engrossed in this for hours as a kid. Bad parenting?… na great parenting if you ask me!
What a picturesque little town. Very beautiful. Gives me Twilight Zone vibes as well.
I came across grimmlifecollective completely by accident and have to say its one of the best things I've done, I first watched this when I was 8 years old on my own on holiday as it was on British tv. It reminded me of a mixture of the Bela Lugosi Dracula and the even older Nosferatu, the music and the way it was filmed always kept you involved and wanting more.
Keep up the great work doing this, I'm working my way through your film location films and completely love what your doing....
Thank you for watching and so glad you found us.
Recently bought the DVD. It still holds up. David Soul of Starsky and Hutch was wonderful.
This is my all time favorite nightmare movie of my youth. I saw it when it came out on tv when I was 12 and had the scariest nightmares that I remember for over 40 years. Danny Glick tapping floating at the window scared the crap out of me.Thanks for the memories guy's 👍
I was 14 when I watched Salem’s lot, one of the scariest scenes was the boy at the bedroom window, scratching to get in WOW, The best 📺 TV HORROR SERIES EVER👌👹💀👻🎃
James Mason was a great actor
Agreed! James is also in another (trying to be) horror film around the same time called “Child’s Play” [1972] - imo worth watching only because of his leading performance.
@@touchofdumb Watched Georgy Girl last week and he was good in that and The Blue Max he's good in.Will have to look out for Child's play.
@@DIDCOTTWIST if you get a chance watch "Lolita". He was epic in that one.
@@Casinogirl56 I do have Lolita on Blu-ray part of a Stanley Kubrick box set but not watched it yet 👍🏼
Back shaman! Back priest!
Some of the best horror films were made in the 70’s.
I’m only 14 minutes in and have to say that this episode is GREAT.
I remember reading Salem’s Lot years ago.
I never slept for a month after watching Salems lot, always waiting on someone scratching my window.
These videos are tremendous, keep up the good work 🏴
I was 9 years old when I saw this for the first time... scared the bejeezus out of me. I was afraid to let anyone come in the house after that... Thank you for doing all the great forgotten classics
I also saw this at that age when it first aired! Scared me so much, but I was always drawn to horror movies.
Watch this when it came out, I was 10 years old. Scared the shit out of me. I was afraid to open up the blinds of my bedroom window because I thought a vampire was outside.
😂😂😂😂
I have always thought that windows are terrifying. This movie helped me realize that -- saw it as a kid as well.
Great timing. I watched this last night. It scared the hell out of me back then and still works beautifully today. David Soul now lives in London - Holland Park- and I met him a few years ago.🍉😀🇬🇧
wtf really ilive here also
Look at me...teacher!
@@danflory6340 😬🙉🤣👍
I was around 12 years old when my dad showed me this movie , undeniably one of the scariest movies , at least I will always consider it one of them . The kid scratching on the window still haunts me
Lance Kerwin was well known for all the Afternoon Specials & James at 15.
Gifted actor. RIP.
I was 16 when the movie came out on TV and I am a big David Soul fan. R.I.P. David Soul.
It’s crazy that this movie came out the year I was born! It’s been many years ago now since I last watched the film, so I’ll have to watch it again soon! I remember reading the book when I was about 12. That’s when I discovered and fell in love with Stephen King’s work. Thank you for another great video tour!
🌹
I remember watching this when it first came out . For tv show it was pretty terrifying . I remember the scene at the jail when the vampire unlocked the cell door and popped up on screen , both me and my mom jumped out of our seats . The creepiest part was definitely the Glick boy scratching at the window trying to get to his brother . That’s one of the best horror scenes ever !
omfg !! Ferndale has the COOLEST cemetery ive ever been to and i only hope that you guys were able to check it out along with the victorian downtown area . being one of my favorite movies i actually lived there and had NO idea it was filmed there ! crazy !
Greetings from Humboldt!
Yeah used to sneak in the cemetery when I was a kid. I grew up there and one of the kids I played with was Guy Ferry. Guess he went on to do some interesting things.
@@thislazylifeI miss it !
A favorite. Definitely a Halloween watch standard. Saw it when young, still gives me the creeps to this day. "Mr Barlow will arrive soon Mr Crockett." "Teacher, look at me teacher"
One of the scariest movies to me growing up.
People like to imagine that the old house in the movie was real, but in fact it was nothing more than a facade and was taken down after filming. I was fifteen in 1979 and remember well the excitement of watching this. They simply dont make tv movies this good anymore.
Well said tv isn't what it was.
I couldn’t agree with you more with the B.S.that’s out today.
Wow !! How exciting to watch Vampire movie being made !!
Another classic movie
'Salem's Lot is my favorite Stephen King book! Loved this video! ⚰️🕸
I watched thisTV movie 20 times at least. I always loved the dirty lens spot at 4:37 . Cannot keep my eyes away :)
Herve Attia: I love your shooting locations videos on your channel, please continue doing them👍😃😃🙏
Now I’m gonna have to watch it again to see what ur referring to 😀
Oh yes !
One thing that always makes me giggle. How David soul can never shut the door on his jeep all through the movie ! 😂
Perhaps had you stopped watching before your 20th time your breath wouldn't of steamed the lense. I hate when that shit happens . See ya on the dark side ..
This movie scared the shit out of me as a kid. Floating bestie? Nah, dawg. I ain't letting you in!
😆
😂😂😂
Floating bestie…ya got me good with that.
I saw this movie on TV the night it aired. I was 16 and alone. I made damn sure the window locks were in place and the drapes pulled after Danny Glick's scene with floating to Mark's window and tapping on it. So damn creepy!! Also, during the funeral/cemetery shot, I think you said, 'David' instead of Danny? Not sure. Thanks for this. Amazing how the town matches so many scenes and are still recognizable today. I'm not a fan of horror films, but was definitely a fan of David Soul so was very excited he got the lead part in this one.
Thanks for sharing the part about your childhood and watching movies with your mom. My mom also liked horror movies, and we would watch them together. Back then, we would go to the video store and bring home a stack of VHS tapes. She has passed now, and I miss those times. Thanks for the great videos, and thanks again for sharing.
"You'll Enjoy Mr. Barlow. And He'll Enjoy You!"…haha classic! Thanks for doing this video…you guys are hitting it out the park! All my favourite movies and tv shows lately…cheers all the best to you both! 🧛♂️
James Mason was a stone cold legend. He really elevated the entire production to a different level.
Still a classic horror movie, thanks for revisiting it.
You guys did great on this one!
David Soul couldn't shut that softtop Jeep door at all. I also think Tobe Hooper paid respect to "Nosferatu" with Mr.Barlow's appearance. If I recall in the book he was described much differently. Anyway, thank you!
ha ha, ive always noticed that. Bet David wanted to just boot it shut
I believe it was Richard Kobritz that used the NOSFERATU Barlow because he was tired of seeing the evening-clad Dracula-esque style of vampire depicted in King's novel. He wanted to go behind the facade to project the horrible, malignant, pulsating evil that was the vampire's soul, a humanoid parasite. They couldn't have a better actor than the horribly burn-disfigured Reggie Nalder to fill the role of Kurt Barlow.
Saw it when it came out on TV. I wouldn’t go in my basement for a year.
We visited there and those locations as my partner is obsessed with that film, brought back memories, I recognised Ferndale also being in the movie Outbreak the other day as I recognised the bridge in, it's a nice and friendly little town.
Best 70s horror movie ever! David Soul was so yummy back then. The kid scratching on the window. The other kid at the window asking to be let in. Creepy lady sitting up in the morgue. But the one that scared the 💩 out of me was the vampire in the rocking chair. “Look at me” Look at me Teacher” OMG gives me chills now!
Still can’t watch it without having anxiety at just the thought of I’m going to be watching it....again
Thanks for taking us on this tour!
And the bit when he jumps down into the kids grave then the vamp kid sits up. Traumatised me when i was a kid.
The kid at the window's name is Ralph Glick and the lady in the morgue is his mother who he ate the night before
5:21 one of the most iconic shots along with the scene from Psycho 2 where Norman is looking up at the house and sees what he thinks is his mother in the window.
Thanks once again for doing this.
My favourite movie as a kid ,david soul use to play cards a lot during the film breaks with James mason he said
I own Salem's Lot and it's sequel, as well as the remake starring Rob Lowe. I enjoy them all. Well done Michael and Jessica.
The sequel is unrelated rubbish. Rob Lowe version lacks atmosphere and scares of the original and best...
@@iansbolton None of that bothers me. I find alternate ways to enjoy them. I like bad movies within reason. The original is the best, you're right about that.
@@iansbolton !!watch out!!........one little asian boy.......
My favorite Salem's Lot item is the Collector's Edition of the novel including a section with deleted scenes. This was back when King actually had to EDIT himself, and he cut a really good sequence with the vampire hunters killing the trailer park couple and their baby.
My sister and I used to visit our grandmother who lived in Rio Dell during the summer bout 10 miles from Ferndale in the late 60s early 70s and attend the Humboldt County fair in Ferndale, and remember it being a quaint, pretty little town with a kind of Mayberry feel to it. God, those were the days!!
Rest in peace Fred Willard, whom we just lost and Geoffrey Louis, who played a lot of Clint Eastwood movies and Rob Zombie's The Devil's Rejects
Geoffrey was Juliette Lewis' dad. Maculey Culklin's aunt is Bonnie Bedelia.
@@samanthab1923 Hey thanks !!
Awesome job for a clasic movie. The vampire kids sacred the hell out of me as a kid.
Just booked two nights at the Gingerbread Mansion for May.... Been in Ferndale two times but never overnight. Beyond excited.... Been to Bluff St to the house and always felt something really special there on that driveway.
I have that movie on my phone and I watch it over and over and I never get tired of it love it.
Been an Salem's Lot fan since 1981. My best memory about the film is that it was recommended by a classmate of mine.
One of my favourite movies of all time. I remember watching the first part and going into school the next day and everybody was talking about it! Time to get the extended version out tonight I think! Cheers for this
Thank you !! This was one I requested :) I saw this movie many years back and it scared me so bad it took decades before I watched it again :)
I absolutely LOVE the way you approach your topics. Jus a conversation between ordinary-everyday-Joe-and-Jane; just friendly neighbours showing visitors around the neighbourhood like any family member might show their new home. Just splendid! …. And yes, 1970’s horror flicks were not to be beaten!
I was 20 in 1979 and vividly remember Salem's Lot.
Great i was wondering if someone was going to do a Filming Location on the movie " Salems Lot " this was and still is a eerie type of movie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Animals gravitate to good, kind people and that is jessica. Animals are a great judge if a person is good or bad. Love ur vids keep'em coming you guys rock!!
Animals really aren't THAT good of a judge of character. Adolph Hitler had a dog that loved him. I've found that more human monsters dislike animals than the other way around.
That siren is for the Ferndale volunteer fire department. It’s so they know to turn the radios on and help an emergency. Depending on how many times the siren goes off depends on what type of emergency it is. I lived in Ferndale from 1992-2003. So happy to see you getting the filming locations. From my moms house you can look out her front window and see the house up on the hill they built. The Marsten house.
I saw this movie for the first time in Puerto Rico with my brothers in the 80s waoooo in Spanish and every time they repeated it I watched it and now after 3 decades I watched it again and I have seen it more than 4 times, thank you for your video
I love this video and this movie scares me to this day at 28 years old :)
We love all of your videos bro! Thank you for all of your hard work, I freaking love the amazing locations you take us to visit!
OMG! This movie scared the hell out of me,and it still does. The scariest vampire film i've ever seen.Thank you for this!!!!!!!
I remember seeing Salem’s Lot in a Clamshell to rent at a Video Store I used to rent at decades ago.
I was born in 1972 and I have “soft spot” for 80’s horror movies that I would have to sneak and watch from my parents in the early to mid 80’s.
I always will remember as a kid when Video Stores were in their infancy and holding the Original Boxes to the Friday the 13th,Halloween,Nightmare on Elm Street & many Stephen King movies.
Y’all are awesome bloggers because I can tell y’all are genuine fans and are so excited to be their with your filming locations are at!
Oh no 😂!! To this day i remember that blooming vampire at the window.. Scared the life out of me... Still it had David soul 💕
This movie was filmed & made the year I was born… W0W! How the days & times flys by!
I was 5 when I first watched this , this was my introduction to the horror genre , and horror still one of my favorite genres.
This movie scared the heck out of me when I first saw it at 11 years old 😮 .....but my favorite scary movie! Thank you for this video, it was awesome! ❤
fantastic film ,loved james mason and david soul .
Love what y’all do! Much love from Georgia!
The scene with the boy vampire floating outside the window scared me so bad!! I love that movie!!
I love the head of Barlow superimposed on Michael in the introduction. One of my favorite Stephen King novels and adaptations. What it lacks in blood and gore it makes up for in suspense. I could go on and on.
This video gave me so many happy vibes & I have LOVED the tour!! Thank you & Jessica! One of my favorite horror movies to date that scared the crap outta me as a child. No wonder I thrive on horror!!
One of my favorite child hood movies
It’s about that time to rewatch ole Salem’s Lot. And check out those locations. ❤
That siren is a tsunami warning test. They did that when I stayed at the Fort Bragg Harbor at night and it scared the hell out of me.
I love the great videos you and Jessica make.
Keep up the great work.Thumbs 👍 up from me.
Love from the UK 🇬🇧
Agreed I have not seen this series until recently. It’s great!
That truly was such a great movie. I've always loved the older vampire or zombie movies. Keep up the great work and maybe next time you can hop on Jessica's back and pretend to bite her neck on any of those locations lol
Man I’m a kid again, can’t wait for this one - nice work.
Town’s like Salem’s Lot, are amazing. Thank you very much for the Grand tour.
Fantastic guys...Always so thorough and informative 👍...Just love your channel and work 🙂
Only last week I was looking to see if there was one for Salem's Lot and hey presto! Brilliant vid as always, watching from England.
I watched this when it came out. I was 10 and it literally scared me to death. My all time favorite horror movie!
oh man this was one of the scariest things i saw as a kid and still gives me the frightners now and i am now almost 52! But wouldnt it be so cool to actually live in that little town, its beautiful, thankyou for the video
What sound is that? It's an old air raid/tsunami/strong storm warning siren. Those would go off every Thursday at 10:00 AM in the San Fernando Valley where I was living at the time in the very early 60's to the early 70's. After the collapse of the Soviet Union in the early 1990's the Civil Defense (CD) began to take them out. To be frank with you, I haven't heard that siren since the 70's! Great video, thumbs up. Keep 'em coming 😀.
Storm sirens are tested every Sunday at noon where I live and the surrounding areas. I thought that was something that was practiced everywhere. Interesting.
Tsunami siren is my guess as Ferndale is the location of many Large earthquakes.
I remember when this movie came out. My parents wouldn't let me watch it. Everyone else was watching it, but I had to go to bed. So I snuck back in, hid under the dining table laying on the chairs, and watched it. Scared me to death.
Good kid :-)
I'm reading Salem's lot rn. I literally just put it down to scroll through UA-cam while I eat. This was on my recommendation..
Salem's lot an absolute classic
