The snow looks so beautiful! Hope it isnt too freezing 😂 burnt ramen sounds sooo delicious, havent tried it before! Wishing you a happy new year ahead 🎉
Greetings Frank Sama. Another mouth watering report of wonderful Ramen. Happy new year 2023... And if there is not any new video posted... Happy New year of the Water Rabbit too. Thank you for all your effort . Best Wishes and Success.
Love it Frank! Question I’ve been wanting to ask you.. how do you gather the rich details about the history/practices/ingredients of these little ramen businesses? Do you talk with the master, or find it online, or via some other resource? It’s incredibly unique for us in the Western world to be privy to that information (so thank you so much for gathering it!!)
Thanks for watching! A lot of those little details I'll find online or in local ramen publications. Once in a while they might come from speaking to the master. Will keep the Insider ramen info coming 😊
Good to see a new upload Frank! I can really see how thicker soups work better in Asahikawa, thanks for reviewing them for us! I hope 2023 will be a great year for you and your channel!
Frank, I just found a company in the US (in Hawai'i) that is shipping noodles and soup base, called Sun Noodle. The owners are Japanese. We've tried 3 of their offerings and just love the noodles, but the base packets should be split between two bowls as they are salty. If you can try this company out, we would love your take on them!
Sun Noodle is legit I hear! Happy to hear you're loving their noodles. Would love to try those - they're supplying a lot of high level ramen shops over there and I'm sure they're not messing around.
I've been practicing my own ramen making skills, using ingredients that are affordable here in the Netherlands. But it's hard to get that richness when everything here is much lower in fat. On your footage you can just see so much fat drifting on top of the soup, it looks so tasty!! And I imagine it's rather essential in the cold of Hokkaido too!
Absolutely! That fat makes all the difference in Hokkaido. But there's something to be said for lighter ramen styles too. Very impressive that you're making your own at home!
My husband wants to go out for ramen because he could overhear the VO of this video as I was watching it. Hope you can find a restaurant in Tokyo similar to Roast Beef Abura Soba Beefst. Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi...I mean Frank, you're my only hope!
Roast Beef Abura Soba is rare (pun intended)! For reference, Mensho SF in Shinjuku uses wagyu roast beef as toppings: www.5amramen.com/post/mensho-san-francisco In terms of abura soba, this place is great: www.5amramen.com/post/bubuka-ramen-in-kichijoji On a similar note, the neighborhood of Waseda in Tokyo has a crazy of abura soba places!
Hope you enjoyed this one! Heading back to Sapporo for more RAMEN in Video 8 in the series 😃
0:11 "So I'm Russian right now" Me too! :)
It was "rushing" 😊
A cold rainy night and snug in bed watching ramen. Perfect
Perfect indeed 😊
I'm a big fan of burnt ramen. I've had burnt garlic and burnt soy sauce before, but never burnt pork lard. My mouth is watering.
Asahikawa is the next place you'll need to visit!
yeaaaaa ive been waiting for this episode 😆
Thanks for patiently waiting!
The sacrifices you make to put out quality videos for us❄❄😰-10 wow. Happy New Year Frank 🎆🎉
Happy New Year and thanks for watching! Will continue sacrificing for the greater ramen good 😊

Indeed...nothing like those thick and hearty soups up in the North when it's cold!

@@5AMRamen Thank you, thank you! You're the best, Frank! Hoping to visit Japan again in May and we shall check out your recommendations! :D
Hold on, hold on. from their own underground sources water? what do you mean? from their own wells or like mineral water?
Both bowls look amazing!
From what I read, it sounds like they might have their own well! Both bowls were!
I can never get over how inexpensive even the best ramen is there. I'm so jealous. It's $15-25 here.
We are super spoiled here!
i will only visit northern japan during the sumer time and fall and spring only...looks way to cold even eating ramen
It's ramen perfect weather! I'm weird, I like the cold 😅
