Great car. I still haven’t had an opportunity to drive one.
Maybe because I’m not a BMW, Toyota, or Supra purist, but I never understood the hate on BMW and Toyota making this car together. German engineering and Japanese Passion seems like a win-win.
Agreed! You combine that with the fact other amazing cars like the GR Corolla and the GR 86 also are available right now from Toyota and you have to respect the fact Toyota found a way to give us all 3 of these incredible cars at the same time.
You have to build your own car in order to call yourself passionate about it. So this is still German engineering and German passion with a Toyota Sticker. You never understood the hate on BMW and Toyota.....this is the Answer to your question "Maybe because I’m not a BMW, Toyota, or Supra purist"
@@alphanation368 so that just means these people that build their own cars with Ford, Chevy, etc parts to build 1 car is not passionate about their project? I think you are just a pure hater tbh. Cars drive and run and you still have something to bitch about is crazy. Like just walk at that point goofy. Even Ferrari outsources parts from other manufacturers. Even engineers travel to different manufacturers. So at some point things get crossed like your eyesight 💀
The BMW B58 engine is one of the best on the market today, and has been very reliable. I would choose this Supra over the equivalent BMW Z4, and perhaps even over a BMW M2. I am not sure that I would spring for an Anniversary Edition, as the price increase will only be increased by greedy dealers and their ADM. But I would definitely look for one in 1-2 years, on the used car market.
I bought the 45th anniversary Mikan Blast in November. It is one of only 450, whereas the white 45th is common (in color) among so many other GR Supras. I chose the excellent ZF 8 auto transmission for many reasons:
1) It's faster and gets better fuel mileage. ($5.50/gallon here)
2) I can sip on a tall drink while driving.
3) Adaptive cruise control is available with this transmission, only.
4) My Miata has a 6-speed manual transmission.
5) the excellent ZF 8 transmission is a blast to drive with or without the paddle shifters. In Sport mode, this transmission seems to know exactly when to downshift and keep the engine in the right Rev range, so that a quick tap of the gas pedal sends me rocketing - much faster than downshifting with a manual transmission version.
So I guess the reviewer would refuse to drive a McLaren 570S, since it is not available with a manual transmission.
@@davepaturno4290 Brian Makse has reviewed McLarens in the past. Regarding the 570S:
ua-cam.com/video/6l9ZzPOAgwA/v-deo.htmlsi=eBnz7nyk01c_oSMN
But as he has said in many other reviews, if a manual transmission is an available option, it is generally the one he prefers, because he prefers the driving experience of a manual transmission. It's also why he sells "Save The Manuals" merch.
The people complaining about the bmw drivetrain must not know much about it. Toyota chose the best options on the market for the price point and tailored it to their specs. Hating that just shows you don’t truly care about the engineering
The only downside about German engineering is its excessive complication of certain features. To check the oil in my Supra, a sensor measures the height/volume while the engine is running. Sometimes, just because you CAN do something, doesn't mean you should. Simple is often better in the long run.
Looks great in orange!
This car is more capable at driving than most people are at walking
Truth.
I’ve been watching videos of the 2024 Supra manual transmission but I can’t find one to save my life!
You’re welcome!
I Have this exact car and I Freaking Love It!
For those who say it’s not a real Supra, here is a perspective shift;
I get the best from a Japan Company and a Germany Company in 1 package!
So I get to rep both brands!

Well said!
dream car
Greetings from Puerto Rico! I just bought a new white supra 45 anniversary! Way better than my 2019 mustang gt pp1.
Cheers! Well done!
Very well done. I was waiting for your take on this car. Toyota is ABSOLUTLY killing it with their GR line of cars. When the Z was announced, for me it was a toss up between the Z and this Supra with the Z NISMO possibly being the tie breaker. Now that the NISMO Z is here and only in an automatic, it looks like it is the Supra with a manual for me. If there is one thing we can thank the whole EV push for it is the fact that passionate car brands are giving us some of the best gas powered gems ever made since at this point it is either now or never. I really have to put the money together to get this car. BTW, is there fake engine noise and if so, how bad is it and can it be turned off?
Yes, it is definitely a synthetic sound that can be turned off with a Bimmercode device. In fact, that device can change lots of other things, as well.
@@davepaturno4290 Thanks.
Cool review. I’m completely fine with the BMW partnership, especially since Toyota has apparently improved the MT. I have never preferred BMW manuals. If Toyota partners to increase enthusiast cars, I am all for it,. Otherwise, I don’t think they will do as many. The Mikon/orange is great.
Well said!
Toyota had a lot more involvement than most people, especially the haters realize. There are a few videos about it, but the chassis was co designed and the engine was revised based on Toyotas stress testing. Also designing an I6 in the current market is not the best. I can only think of a couple cars in Toyotas line up with the space under the hood for an I6. Keep in mind an I6 is going to need approximately the same length as a v12.
So yeah, I'll take my bmw performance with Toyota QC testing. It's not like the partnered with Yugo or Chrysler to make the Supra.
I love this car (have a '21') but I think they could of used better designed wheels, these make the tire look too small and they aren’t aggressive enough. And the design of the black stripes could use a redesign, these looked a little contrived and don’t compliment the car's lines. But what a nice ride! 👍
My 45th Anniv. has nothing but compliments. It is so easy to differentiate it over other Supras.
It´s not more a Japanese Supra but it´s a good Sports Car.
Brian, I’m debating on getting a type R or a supra. What do you think is the better choice?
Depends on what you mean by “better”.
Just get an M2.
Supra.
If you look at Car & Driver magazine's Lightning Lap (on VIR), you'll find yhat the 3.0 Supra is quite a bit faster than the Civic Type R. (Both with stock tires). And while the Civic is also very impressive, it is not nearly as exotic-looking as the GR Supra.
@@davepaturno4290 I don't think this is a reliable yardstick. Every time I watch their Lightning Lap videos I'm appalled by their driving standards. Significant mistakes and inconsistencies invalidate their lap times for any meaningful comparison.
Drinking game: take a shot each time the word PROPER is said.
Great review
The Supra looks great, but would never buy one because of the BMW engine. I don’t see why Toyota went in that direction instead of building the motor themselves.
I agree. BMW will be more problematic than a Toyota engine down the line. Thank goodness it's not a Chevy, Dodge or Ford! Lol!
Yup. I want Toyota quality.
The rumor mill has started up for the MK6 already on the SupraMKV forums-it might be built in house by toyota, but will be much more expensive if so.
@@Barbwire710 It will be a better engine.
@@TheFlyrodder68 not necessarily, the B58 is pretty proven. Meanwhile, Toyota’s 3.4L TT in the Tundra has proven problematic. I expect growing pains if they use the 3.4TT or an even newer V6/I6/V8.
If they were built using Toyota engines I likely would have bought either a manual Supra or GR86... but you know what they say about a certain other car always being the answer - its true.
Yup, shit even a GR86 is more desirable than a BMw with a Toyota badge. The BRZ was at least co developed with Toyota.
Miata is always the correct answer.
10+ years from now people will want to own one. Same nonsense I heard when the MKIV was out in the 90’s. People complained it was too expensive and eventually it sold so poorly that they discontinued the MKIV. Doug DeMuro put it best,”it’s the most controversial cars that at first are misunderstood then sought after”. The MKV is not better than the MKIV and nothing can ever follow up the best 90’s car.
Then why are you here? @@AntilleanConfederation
@@stedy142 because I can? Do you only like to see things you agree with? Stop being a snow flake.
That steering wheel is a travesty
No, it takes 30 years for the Supra to gain just 44hp…😂… If he was an American or Germany-made car this would be at least 450 hp…..now you know why Toyota can't sell this thing…I have not seen a car sell well without a 0-60 crowd
What's a 0-60 crowd?
Horsepower gear heads
NO THANK YOU, Toyota. I prefer my timing chains in the front of the engine, NOT the back!
It's a BMW down to the door bell jingle......thats all it is....same infotainment center.....terrible.
In Consumer Reports magazine's April 2024 Auto Issue, BMW was rated #1 overall out of 35 auto manufacturers. This rating takes into consideration:
Performance
Quality of build
Comfort
Economy
Reliability
Safety
Controls
Their B58 inline 6 turbocharged engine is already legendary, as is the ZF 8 auto transmission.
Good points and the Supra's manual is better than every modern manual BMW has done.
The supra has never lost its soul. Still lives on in a real supra. This a Toyota badge car, not a supra. Iam getting one but will be replacing the badges to its real manufacturer (BMW z4)
These are excellent cars. It’s a little too fancy and well constructed to be a Toyota. You are right, the Toyota badges make it look weak.
The Z4, according to Car & Driver magazine is an inferior track car. If you want a Grand Touring convertible, then yeas, the Z4 will work.
@@ryanb8736So the MK4 Supra turbo was a "weak" car? Really?
Watching you drive and shift my comment is that it simply sucks as compared to a Mazda MX-5. Watch your three videos on that and you’ll see automotive perfection.
It was discontinued for 20 years...why would it be 45 years? the math dont add up...also its a BMW so technically MK4 is still the most recent Supra made
Supras came out 45 years ago.
MK4 is such an old outdated car. Smelled like melted crayons. Awful paints and bodies rusted.
You know the Supra only from being modded with 100k invested and from Fast and Furious. Go find a stock MK4 and let’s see how you like it. I bet you won’t. Everything is so old and outdated. It’s just slapped together.
@@ryanb8736 you are correct though it got very famous from that fast and furious franchise which was kinda upsetting because we all hoped the price would come down over time but instead the price we back up lol. Its the only Japanese sports car of that era with the price increase. 300zx Rx7 3000gt you can all find these for a cheap price.
@@ryanb8736 It is even more upsetting that did not give us a proper supra with the mk4 being so outdated. 100k is a lot and an overexageration. Just google 2jz and see how much power you can get from that engine with a few simple modz. Spending 100k on modz you can expect well above 1000hp. But yeah you are right the mk4 is very outdated. This is why they are slapping 2jz on newer vehicles.
@@alphanation368The RX7 was the car to get from that generation. It had quality parts. Supra felt like truck parts thrown on inside.
I built few Supras with 2JZ’s. By the time to cha he all suspension to handle 1500 hp, send car to body shop and paint it to perfection and all the funds to build engine and transmission to 1500 hp, you are over 100k. Unless you work for free. I’m in business to make money. Parts are not cheap. Plus the old ones needed a ton of work. You need to replace everything from harness, interior, lightings, etc. it’s not cheap.
But its not a toyota stop saying it is
If i wanted a bmw i would not buy a toyota vise verusa
If i want a chevy i wouldnt want a ford
Ford and Chevy share transmissions…
Correction, the Supra we deserve is made entirely by Toyota and not BMW with a Toyota badge. Pure japanese, not european.
It's not made by BMW. It's made by Magna in Austria.
