Despite the customer's mask we see that he has a big happy smile. Nice work! Very interesting anecdote also. As you thought, Irving Schott in 1928 invented the first leather motorcycle jacket with a zipper. The Rebel biker jacket. "The rough, tough garment designed for bikers crossed over into high fashion - and endured for decades." In another source, I read that "The Schott’s sold them through a Harley Davidson distributor over on Long Island. Each Perfecto Motorcycle Jacket sold for $5.50." Let's continue...
You're like a carpenter I knew from back in the day. His hands shook and he always looked too rough/violent with his pieces until he assembled them into the final work, which always turned out perfect. Same with you.
Hey I remember selling 2nd hand leather jackets at street fairs and flea markets many years ago. The best of those and by far the best selling one's were Schott Bros. brand. They last a lifetime if taken care of. Great to see them preserved.
I _love_ my Schott jacket. Not cheap, but worth every penny... especially if you fall off a bike. The cut, fit, and dimensions (e.g., sleeve proportions) are perfect for riding. Those folks know how to make a jacket.
The phone thing keeps it exciting! I’ve been sewing all my life. I know your machine can fly. I had one similar.......piece of furniture and definitely not portable table top. Nippers are a handy tool. Great job.
This kind of job....did it in a neatly form like today; is not so unusualy searched for some people. I need it that kind of job years ago with a good leather jacket in that style and could not found anyone willing to do it. Nice job and nice to see you again in the tube.
Steve your craftsmanship ceases to amaze me again awesome work. I believe that when you say you’re “videotaping” what you mean is you’re “recording”. I detect some old-school technology terms, since your camera doesn’t have any tape inside of it. Lol. Thank you for your comical commentary and patience while you’re working! Best regards!
Even though thought you didn’t think it was a good idea, I’m so glad you made this video. I searched all of the UA-cam and only came across maybe 3 videos of shortening a jacket with a zipper. THANK YOU!!!
The jacket adopted by the police after the surplus of ww2 motor-bikes were received is the perfecto with a kidney belt added and the other protective features like double thick elbow's also a badge holder and on some had fur liners for winter . the old bikes would hurt you because of how rough they rode without suspension and the roads were terrible. Side-note most of the bikes were the harley 4 cylinder which is the most coveted bikes along the enthusiasts. Side cars were loved by some hated by others. The jacket and the bike are a true American icon. If you look online even forth or fifth generation Schott police motor-bike brigade jackets are thousands of dollars. Also I'm almost positive they are still made today and are the standard of quality. If I missed anything. Feel free to add information you know. Thank you. Side-note #2 fantastic job Steve I love your work. Even-tho you don't think so you are a shoe wizard.
As a hobby sewer, I agree about the old threads. I’m so jealous of the way you wield that Stanley knife. I use a seam ripper and it takes me forever. I know if I used a Stanley knife I would be cut to ribbons within a week. I didn’t know you could reuse the top stop in a zip. Gonna play next time I get one that is U/S to see what I can do. Excellent tip with the glue. I’m going to try using a fabric glue for the same reason.
I use a safety blade instead of a stitch ripper for things like that. You can buy them in a hardware store in the section where they sell box cutters. I find holding the blade in my fingers gives me more dexterity and control of the slices than when using a blade in a handle.
You have got to get over the seam ripper, Sarah. Use the Stanley knife or a single-edged razor. Difference is that one takes minutes to do the job and the seam ripper takes about 5 hours!
Hi Steve 🙋🏿♀️. THAT Job was Simply BEAUTIFUL ‼️ you are the man with the Master Plan‼️ I totally love what you do ‼️😃. Have a great evening ‼️🙋 👍👏 👏👏 👏👏 👏👏 👏💯 💯♥️✝️♥️🙋 👏.
Hi Steve. I came across your channel a couple of weeks ago and been hooked ever since. I’m working my way through all your vids and never tire of them. I’m from New Zealand 🇳🇿 and worked in a shoe factory in Wellington for 17 years until imports made it unprofitable in 1996 and it closed down like most shoe and clothing factories here. We mainly made cheap school shoes of low quality in cement and veldt schoen construction. Actually weren’t that cheap at between 50 and 100 bucks NZD back then. There were many shoe repair shops around back in those days because shoes were expensive so it was cheaper to repair shoes that were decent quality. Welted shoes were a thing of the past in our factory back then but there still one or two factories in NZ that were making them.
Nice looking jacket. Looks like just enough leather that was cut off to make a belt. Anywhoooo This was not only informative but entertaining. I laughed several times. Thank you for sharing.
Great video, Steve! We really enjoyed watching your craftsmanship and how you helped your client so he can wear our jacket for many years to come. We offer many different jacket lengths in most of our styles to help everyone find the perfect fit. I'm sure that many of our vintage collector friends and those who have inherited their grandfather's jacket would love to see ways they can make them their own! Thanks for sharing with everyone what's going on behind the seams!
Schott is the best. Just last Friday, it was my daughter's 18th birthday... we took her to the NYC store and said... "Pick one" ... glad she didn't pick the $800 Perfecto ;) P.S. Not just the first leather motorcycle jacket with a zipper... the first zipper in ANY jacket/coat period!
Her BF will trade it for dope in the east village. And lie to everyone and say he got mugged. I'm not making hateful statements. My GF back 20 years ago did that to me with the 500$ jacket I got for 18th only In a different state but scumbags are everywhere. Just a cautionary tale. Stay elert stay alive.
I have six A2 schott jacket and they r superb, all of them vintage. Used by Ramones, Marlon Brando in the famous movie etc. Anyway nothing at all to say, about the amazing job, but to alterate the jacket with pockets, is wrong, because the proportions will became different, I mean if we cut the jacket from the bottom, automatically the pockets should be in higher position, but that it' s impossible, so for that reason the customer had to think better before to ask to alterate his jacket. Maybe if the customer has the possibilty to spend more money, it might be better to make a tailored jacket directly in the schott factory. They do with a plus cost. Anyway great job, as always!!!
Love your videos loads of character- always picking up new tricks from you - crepe rubber to remove old stitching knew those old Clarks of mine had a purpose 👌
Interesting that you did not also have to shorten the sleeves. Most people that alter jackets for length need both. Very nice work. I love your zipper trick for alignment. I am going to remember that one for my next jacket project. You da man!!
Very nice job Steve, the fit looked perfect 👌 I had a Schott coat a long time ago, it was very warm, don't know where it is now! Let's continue 👍🏼 and stay safe.
I think Brando wore a brand called Durable. Not schott. BUT I think schott bought durable at some point. So, that's how they justify saying he wore a perfecto.
Oh damn, I didnt know you could use crepe to remove the old stitchings. I always used a tip of a knife and removed them laboriously... That's a pro tip, Thanks!
Hey Barney, your camera fell. Hahaha. You made that task look too easy! Oh yeah, thanks for the sewing tip regarding the seams between the zipper. I'm putting that one in the vault.
I love watching his videos. I have a really nice Abercrombie & Fitch Leather Jacket that is a bit long on the sleeves and a little high on the collar, I wonder how much the price would be to get it altered?
My friend Jo has an essential tremor similar but slightly worse than yours & it drives her scatty when people tell her to cut out caffeine. They say not to let her make a cup of coffee cos there won't be any in the cup by the time she gets to you....almost true that carrying a cup sets it off worse
Man it looks like u never get a day off! I have a tear in my Ralph Lauren leather jacket. I guess it got caught on something. Could this be fixed? It’s a beautiful beautiful subtle leather. lol 😝 do ppl really have fits when the camera falls? Ppl get a grip! Thank you sir for the gr8 demo!
Good job with the alteration. For me the sleeves often ten to be in the longer side. The j100 style jacket is a 50's design that is very practical. Honestly, if the individual person wants to adapt his garment for his personal use is great. However, the owner is a taller individual that can rock that jacket without alterations. I have several Schotts. They are good jacket. However, their products are marketed more towards the fashion industry and have gone away from military contracts and serious motorcycle collectors.
Hi Steve. Great project. So I have an A2 flight jacket that I purchased form a Japanese brand a few years ago. I want to have an inside pocket installed for my iPhone. Might send it to you.
Steve, its a bit weird ... as when the bottom is shortened, the pockets will also be lowered. And if the customer doesn't put things in the pockets ( just for style ) its OK or things will be easily fall out from the pockets. Besides, the look is somewhat .... Well, its the way your customer wanted. Your craftsmanship is always remarkable and you've done a great job !
I know ... Thanks for your reply ! BTW, I sent you email about changing the toe style of my John Fluevog Chelsea boot couple days ago ... did you got it ??@@BedosLeatherworksLLC
sure glad we could even see the final length on him at the end of the video cause the most important part of the shot wasn’t completely obstructed at all
Gran trabajo!!! No entiendo por que en estos días fabrican las chaquetas de cuero y denim tan largas? HAhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha, Gosh darn phone. I love the baby hammer time!!!!!!.......Great looking jacket. Looks like the bottom is a great match to his waist or hips. Great job Steve. Artisan at work, love your craft.
This guy sounds just like Jimmy Diresta... For 2 weeks, since I discovered the channel, I've been trying to figure out where I'd heard that voice before. 🤣
In 1928 Irving Schott designed the Motorbike leather jacket & called it the " Perfecto" after his favourite cigar.
Despite the customer's mask we see that he has a big happy smile. Nice work!

Excellent, I bought a Schott blazer back in early 80's. Almost 40 yes old, still wear it. Thanks Steve
Awesome! We make them built to last!
UA-cam algorithm brought me here! Now I'm hooked...might be sending my Schott for alterations too!
Anytime you’re ready

Schott still family owned. Made in Perth Amboy NJ . Woo hoo!
Glad you made a video of this, never considered getting a leather jacket altered!

Another quality job by Bedo's Leatherworks. Another satisfied Bedo's customer.
Beautifully done alteration. It was great to see on it's owner too. Really glad you took the time you didn't have to show us. ; )
Even though thought you didn’t think it was a good idea, I’m so glad you made this video. I searched all of the UA-cam and only came across maybe 3 videos of shortening a jacket with a zipper. THANK YOU!!!
I am a huge Schott (and Bedos) fan and love the Perfecto jacket aka Marlon Brando jacket...perfect job as always Steve !
Another great alteration, you make it look so easy but I know it has taken years and years to get the quality of craftsmanship you deliver now!!! TYFS
I believe they are made in Union, NJ. They did invent the biker jacket and also the police motorcycle jacket. You cam take a factory tour.
Spike .Strat13 Thank you for that information. A tour too, that’s pretty cool.

Think I'm as envious of his sewing skills as his cobbler skills. The man just has talent.
I also have a tired old leather that needs a new lining. After seeing this episode I feel confident enough to tackle it sometime.
I use a safety blade instead of a stitch ripper for things like that. You can buy them in a hardware store in the section where they sell box cutters. I find holding the blade in my fingers gives me more dexterity and control of the slices than when using a blade in a handle.

Kind of binging these vids. My Schott is now my son's. I could not wear it as life makes you expand. LOL
Schott Perfecto is what you are thinking of. Famous for Marlon Brando wearing it amongst loads of celebrities in films.
I think Brando wore a brand called Durable. Not schott. BUT I think schott bought durable at some point. So, that's how they justify saying he wore a perfecto.
That was awesome getting to see the customers satisfaction. Of course he was satisfied, you’re the best!
Nice alteration Steve ... Beautiful jacket ...

Nice/tidy alteration there Steve.

Excellent video, liked the customer cameo!
I appreciate your sharing your knowledge with all. Thanks for the upload.
Brilliant tip to get front and back lined up, just replaced a zipper and ended up doing it by hand.
Hey Barney, your camera fell. Hahaha.
You made that task look too easy!
Oh yeah, thanks for the sewing tip regarding the seams between the zipper. I'm putting that one in the vault.
Love watching all your videos long or short
Is there anything u can't do? I am so impressed. Love the video, good job Mr. Gorgeous
That was a really cool change of pace !👍❤
Love the jacket! Beautiful work as always!
Love a schott jacket.
glad your open, thank you for the upload.
He should use this video for his online dating profile, 'cause he looks good in that jacket.

Steve give us a shop tour one day if that’s ok. I’m assuming those are some awards in the background intro
Love to see a private business respect what their customers choices are.
Another great job. Thanks Steve.
Nice looking jacket!
You're the Bob Ross of leatherwork.
Now I want one of these jackets. Awesome job.

sure glad we could even see the final length on him at the end of the video cause the most important part of the shot wasn’t completely obstructed at all

Great. It's not the length but the quality. Looks like a seiko prospex street you're wearing?
