Hi Mike, nice easy install demonstration. Currently I am checking your website often, waiting for a refurbished OS144PRO to become available again. My question is: Wouldn't it be better to ALWAYS install it in the most open section of the return duct so that bacteria are exposed to the light the longest and without anything to block the light; Then they are killed or sterilized BEFORE they can get to multiply in the moist nooks and crannies of the heating/cooling (mostly cooling) system components?
Just ordered mine on Amazon :) Can't wait to try it out. I have some funk in the house I can't seem to find & something is irritating my dog's skin. I hope this works. I'll be sure to update
Seems that you forgot to include quite a bit of time. This is how a boss would say “its a 5 minute job, why did it take you an hour and a half??!!” First of all getting tools together, investigating an install location, and setting up your template. It is more like min 1/2hr in reality. I have a UV on my return side of my coil so I was thinking of putting this on the other side in my blower section. Is this a good idea? Or will there be water vapor coming off the coil?
should the light be "on" all the time or just when the air handler is running? should it be wired into the air handler to turn on and off? how long are the UV bulbs good for?
Yes, the light should be on all the time unless you have one of our PRO models. They have an airflow sensor that turns them on only when the blower is activated.
99% of the shavings are expelled on the outside of the surface you are drilling through, since once you are through the surface, there are no more shavings provided you are level drilling.
Can you install this if your ducting above the air handler is not the galvanized aluminum? Mine is only the fiberglass ducting above the air handler to the attic ducting.
AC company quoted me $750 what a joke just orders from Amazon. I have mold inside my volute 100% had an inspection done. They basically told me the mold I had isn’t necessarily dangers to all people and it’s completely overblown. I have this smell that’s driving me crazy it’s faint but it’s there. Doing this opposed to changing out the ducting. It’s Florida and hot as heck up there with tons of insulation. Hoping this and a couple air purifiers in the house do the trick.
I had an older rental on Marco Is. I installed a UV D200 above the coil. I had a slight cooking smell for a week or so. The UV will destroy anything in the light. It us very effective. Do not expose eyes or skin fir more than a couple seconds, it will burn you very quickly including your eyeballs, similar to welding arc flash

We are sure you will love the unit.

I am curious as to what happens with the metal shavings that are created when drilling.

Yes, you can still install in that material. We recommend using drywall screws instead of the sheet metal screws that are supplied.
