Awesome video. None of these look like they can be installed in a Package HVAC unit with round hard pipe going into the home. Any suggestions for a waterproof model?

Glad to see someone reviewing the cheap Chinese models and the Honeywell that is about as powerful as a desk lamp! I dare you to compare them to any of the Ultravation models. Even the SSUV-CAT comes with a lifetime warranty on the ballast. And if your worried about bulb cost. Stick with these.

Great video, very informative. For observed odor, do you feel #1 will do the job? Or will #3 be better suited? -- Thanks

Since the cooling coils are mounted above the furnace, will the bulbs overheat in the winter when the burners are on?

Great video, just bought the Bio Shield. Does anyone know what works to get the musky stinky smell out of my house (cleaning product)? It's terrible. Can't wait to install this.

Was your unit sized CORRECTLY for your house? Too much unit, not enough house makes for a cold, damp house. Here's a thought to ponder.
The MAIN purpose of the unit is to dehumidify the air and cooling is a nice by-product.

so what doesn't make sense to me is why is it only for AC mode? Is it safe for heating mode as well? I ask because I used the R-2000 UVC light system in heat mode and after 2 years the unit didn't work anymore and I've tried twice to replace the bulbs and now all they do is just flicker with minimal power to it. Could that be the reason why because I used it in heat mode? Plus the fact that the company that manufactures the D-2000 and the Best Deal UV D200 need to state that it is or isn't UL certified. That's a safety thing and should be asked of.

Are there any UV lights that do not Produce ozone?

    • @EricKinnamon
      @EricKinnamon Рік тому +2

Yes, just look to see what the bulb is. Visible light is 380 nm to 780 nm. UV is 100 nm to 400 nm.
UV-A is usually used in tanning scenarios, and for party bulbs, can tan the skin (just bearly get past epidermis), can penetrate through glass and clouds, and see body fluids... it is the 'fun' UV, don't stare at the bulb and you are fine. They are 315 nm - 400 nm (notice that just overlaps with human vision). The bugs can see light from about 265 nm to 415 nm, and the "increase in attractiveness" happens at around 300 nm to 420 nm, but a sweet spot for mosquitoes and the ones we really don't like seems to be 365 nm, flies 350 nm.
UV-B Will burn the top level of skin in as little as 15 min, deep burns can go all the way through the dermis and hypodermis. This is the light attributed to skin cancer without extremely monitoring. , 280 nm - 315 nm
UV-C is the shortest and most intense UV at 100 nm to 280 m and will cause eye damage if looked at, and if exposed to the skin will cause irritation rabidly. This gets filtered out by ozone so we don't get it on the planet's surface. It is also the range that can kill germs and viruses (the same way it causes us problems, messing with RNA/DNA) and the little buggers can't reproduce. "Germicide Ultraviolet Light" is sometimes referred to as GVU, most common wavelength for them is 254 or 265.
Finally, to answer your questions, ozone is produced from UV from 100nm to 240 nm, so the vast majority of UV does not, but more importantly, the types of UV you would want to use do not. (uvresources.com/the-ultraviolet-germicidal-irradiation-uv-c-wavelength/)

Info on the best unit says……”you need 2….7/8” holes”, but your drawing shows what looks like one hole is 3 to 4“ in diameter? Your pictures show this and your hole saw looks like 3”. Can you explain? Thanks…. Jim
PS…..your proof reader needs some work.

It's ONE 2 and 7/8" hole - 1/8" less than 3". Confusing, but I looked the unit up elsewhere and cleared it up.

None of these units "Purify" the air, they only improve the life on the coil surface.

20 years old unit. Change filter every 2 months. Clean evap coils every 2 years. Never had UV light. Don’t think there is any reason to use them. No I don’t get asthma or have breathing issues which I am sure this is being spun on. Never would get one

When I lived in VA mold on the bottom of the evap coil was a constant problem from the high humidity. I have pretty severe allergies to mold; installing a UV light on the underside of the coil was the only thing that solved the problems and let me literally breathe; they are now the first thing I install on any HVAC system.
