Same story is there for Konkani GSB/Saraswats, we came from Kashmir via Madhya Pradesh, Gouda desha (Bengal), to Gomantak Goa Vernem to perform a Yajna for which the King had invited. In Kashmir there is a Shasana carved on a stone that 12000 people of all 4 varna's have left for Gomantak. Thank God, had we been in Kashmir, we would have suffered now. But we suffered a lot as Romans Converted our people to Catholics, Muslims converted to Bhatkalis or Navayats. So we are a very small community now. We too became Madhva's due to influence of Madhvacharya from Shaiva's and our Deity is Venkataramana. All our Kuldevata temples are in Goa, we ran to south and got spread to Karnataka, Kerala, TN etc. Same story, similar to Havyaks. Even our Sir names are based on our job. Kini, Shenoy, Shanbhag, Bhat, Joshi, Kamat etc. Educated, progressive, business community yet believe in religion, spirituality. We mingle with people wherever we go.

Oh am so happy to see this, thanks Sowmya n UA-cam
As a person of chitpavan kokanastha brahmin heritage, culturally more a bengaluru kannadiga😀
I totally agree with u, there's hardly any patriarchy practiced in homes, except for a few rituals, but then there are a few rituals done/conducted by women, male excluded...
what u said about Brahmin women having agency n freedom to self determination n also that there's not much difference in the way we are treated at home in comparison with our male siblings/relatives totally resonates with me, our male relatives are our biggest cheerleaders. Infact many times I hv felt guilty that I have more choices than my brothers...

Im a gsb from kerala. Surprised to see so much similarity in our cultures and traditions. I somehow seem to understand ur kanada though i dunno how. May be its got lot of sanskrit words in it. Ive also noticed few words to be same as or close to malayalam. And does "annu" mean elder brother? In kerala konkani its elder brother. Just sounded similar. Anyway, wouldnt have known such a community exists without this video.

Other communities should learn their culture. Guest is truly treated like God. Every one joins to celebrate marriage. I love havyak people. Excellant people.
