  • The Collings OM1 is a classic Collings model and a shop favorite. While it takes its inspiration from the original models, Collings has subtly upgraded these with their signature style and tone. Eighty years after this body shape was first designed, it has become the most popular 14-fret model with fingerstyle guitar soloists who choose to play on steel strings. Collings has transformed the standard OM, into a true "do it all" instrument. He's Jesse to run you through a few variations of the Collings OM1. Enjoy!

Great review! Great store. I've purchased from Artisan multiple times and will continue to do so.

Great review. All wonderful sounding guitar and each so distinct. The first maybe the clearest, most separated tone. The big body almost like a nylon string. The last the richest and warmest... astonishing. I wonder, which would respond best of playing with a thumbpick and bare fingers

Hi Christoph! Very pleased you had a chance to listen to these guitars for comparison. With bare fingers and a thumbpick, the Deep Body OM1 Engelmann top (ID 14054) is going to have more subtle nuance when driven with a light to medium string attack. For a heavier attack, the Adirondack top OM1A (ID 13400) will provide more headroom (volume) when you drive it harder. Both sound pretty amazing in terms of clarity. The deep body option on the Engelmann top definitely adds to the bass register (considering it is a Mahogany guitar), yet still has lots of clarity and good individual note definition.

I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on the slight nut widths on these guitars - some have 1 11/16" standard, others 1 3/4" standard nut width. I've found (after owning a 1 13/32" 0002H) that I am most comfortable with the 1 3/4" width. Do you notice any tonal differences? Or is it purely as personal preference (also related to physical finger sizes etc.). Great demos!

Hi Stephen, thanks for watching. A Collings OM1 would have a standard nut width of 1 11/16" but can be ordered with 1 3/4". Nut widths do not give any difference to tone, it is a personal preference depending not just on the size of your fingers but what style you are playing.
