HAPPY WEDNESDAY EVERYONE! I made this video for anyone that is renovating or redecorating their home and struggling to make design decisions that will last for years to come!! I hope this helps narrow down some of your options!
My parents haven’t redecorated their home in over 30 years. And we all LOVE IT!! It’s simple, classic and nostalgic. They change kitchen curtains by season but that’s about it. They’ve saved tons of money and we love that it is comfortable, homey and full of memories 😊
I really would stay away from jute! They are impossible to clean, and really do not feel good underfoot. I’d say people would be best served just going with a neutral rug of their choice and avoiding jute. Love the tips!
Thanks for narrowing tile choice recommendations to a penny tile or a subway tile for those of us who get overwhelmed! Love that you showed how to use each of them. So helpful! Thank you
Such great advice Kristen. Years ago, we bought a floral sectional for our downstairs family room. BIG MISTAKE! I was tired of it in just a few months. I quickly learned the wisest decision would have been a solid color sectional and then I could have changed the look with pillows, as you have mentioned.
Great ideas. I've lived in far too many beige (aka: neutral) spaces so I tend to go for color. I find that if you use the colors you like, and can manage to ignore those who think you have to always be on trend, you can enjoy your home. It is, after all, your home. Right? 😀
Hi Kristen! I’m 100 % agree that keep up with the trends is hard. Thanks for bringing this type of content of timeless decor. I’m getting ideas to renovate my house to give a modern timeless look with a neutral pallet. I have been taking my time looking for as many ideas as possible because I don’t want to regret my decisions with the time. I just want to enjoy my space as much time as I can. ❤❤❤
It's good being a procrastinator because when I really love a trend, by the time I even think about doing it, the trend has passed and I have no regrets! LOL~
Kristen I am so glad you said to keep beadboard. I have it in my foyer and powder room. I have had decorators tell me to get rid of it. Nope, I Re-paint it.
Jute rug - hard no, but Persian rug - timeless. built in open shelving is a bookcase. Subway tile - timeless. Beadboard - timeless East coast. Unlaquered brass - timeless. Neutrals - timeless
I’m currently designing my home to be kind of a craftsman classic look. Blues, warm woods and light walls. I don’t want to have to decorate every few years. That sounds exhausting! 😂
Are there jute rugs that don't shed and create a lot of dust? I have one that was under my eat-in kitchen table and eventually had to remove it due to the crazy amount of dust under it and around it! I did love it because of the additional texture. It is now layered with a welcome mat on my front porch. Great info and thanks for sharing!
HI, you're right to be proud of your fellow Canadian ❤ but remember Kristen is half Scottish 😊 I discovered that when I heard her Dad speaking on one of the makeovers. Going by the accent, I think he has come from the same neck of the woods as me x
What people forget about jute rugs is that they are impossible to clean. Dog pee is absorbed and starts to stink. Big messes like vomit and chocolate are there to say. Also, grease and oil will not come out.
I love my tone on tone curtains. Same shade but richer maybe lighter or darker than the wall color. I like neutral cabinets with a sweet color on the walls. My soft teal walls with soft creamy white cabinets in our office and I have darker teal curtains and this room off the foyer is gorgeous!
I chose a kitchen backsplash that I now regret. At the time, I also liked subway tile but unfortunately chose something else. I still love subway and hope to switch it up after repainting the cabinets.
I really look forward to your vlogs , not only r dey useful but veey trendy n classic, also luv u lots Kristen n bestest wishes always for u from Mumbai , India
I love your tips, thank you! I have a question though...aside from unlacquered brass, what other finishes are considered timeless? Style of door knob/lever? Thank you!
Very helpful video. At 70 I am not even looking at 5 years down the line. I want to do the basics and have it last, and last. I can always spruce up with accessories. Now if I could only find an affordable couch that will be comfortable for a 5' frame. LOL
Video request: Kristen, I know you’ve mentioned some of these request in other videos. 1) how high to hand a sconce in a room w/ standard height ceilings. 2) Mixing wood tones in furniture and wall art? 3) mixing metals and mixing gold tones? Please help! I just hung up 2 wireless sconces and I think I hung them too low 😢
"Generally, it is recommended that sconces be placed at eye level, which is typically around 60 to 66 inches from the floor. This allows for the sconces to provide adequate lighting without causing harsh glare or discomfort and giving a perfect ambiance to a room."
What a helpful video, Kristen! You are so right, it's way too difficult to keep up with the trends and very expensive! I had coloured curtains and over the years I've swapped them out for white or neutral. So glad I did this! Thank you so much for all your tips and tricks!
Hi Kristen! Wow, I love the gallery rail, I dont believe I've ever seen one before on open shelves, what a difference it makes, very classy! Quick question I love jute rugs, but aren't they dusty from the fibers? How do you keep them clean I cant imagine you could vacuum a jute rug?
So many great tips , for me I have to have my walls and curtains dark I'm a care taker for my sister she has seizures and having every thing bright triggers them it's some thing she has to deal with her whole life I would like to have every thing bight and clean looking but her safety and health is important
Just started re-modeling and re-decorating my home after 30 years. Spouse gave the green after he saw what I did with the two other bedrooms. This video is timely. If anything, we need to de-clutter more than buy anything new so I am re-doing furniture and downsizing a very cluttered bedroom - spouse obsessed with having bedroom set but those things take up too much space leaving only 16" walking room.
It does feel odd when you de-clutter the walls, shelves, furniture. I'm 74 and have no clue why I thought every wall space had to be filled. I'm learning about "color clutter" now, not just things. I have been giving away accumulated stuff to shelters, Senior Center......less truly is more:)
Yes herringbone is always timeless and so is marble! I would only recommend doing this is your cabinet style is relatively simple and aren’t too busy! You don’t want too much going on! The herringbone can be a nice accent in a simple space!
Perfect and helpful video. A question about drapes. I have vertical blinds that I must replace!! Are grommet drapes an ok choice? I need curtains that slide back and forth effortlessly as we close and open them every day. Thank you!
I love the look of the tongue and groove chair rail! I was thinking about doing board and batten in my dining room but like this better! Is it different than shiplap?
I always feel good when I am implementing something you suggest in my home already! ☺️ I currently have jute rugs and open shelving, so off to a good start! 😁
I have a large Persian rug, it’s just far too fussy. I can’t get rid of it, I’ve been thinking of covering it it with an even larger plain rug. Would that be ok to cover it over ?
A lot depends on one's associations with certain materials. Penny tile is what you find on run-down NYC apartment bathroom floors so it doesn't appeal to me. Same thing with the classic white/beige subway tile which screams dirty walls in the literal NYC subway, though the type with color and/or texture are fine.
I have some transom windows above my windows in my living room. Should I hang curtains over or below them? They don’t bother me. We own close to six acres. So there should never be anyone up the hill on our land. I also have one in my laundry room and in the master bathroom. I’m not sure I can reach the one in the bathroom. I’m going to have to use a step stool to reach the rest. But I don’t know if the step stool will fit in the bathtub. The window is above the tub.
Hello Kristen, love your videos....what about if you want double curtains sheer and blockout, what is the best colour duo for that? Thanking you in advance xx

You said open shelving was "out" in your "what's out for 2023" video
My parents haven’t redecorated their home in over 30 years. And we all LOVE IT!! It’s simple, classic and nostalgic. They change kitchen curtains by season but that’s about it. They’ve saved tons of money and we love that it is comfortable, homey and full of memories 😊

Great suggestions. Not a fan of open shelves, though. Especially in the kitchen. 😢 they end up looking too busy.
Thanks for narrowing tile choice recommendations to a penny tile or a subway tile for those of us who get overwhelmed! Love that you showed how to use each of them. So helpful! Thank you
I so love your channel. You are so helpful in trying to stay in trend but not going overboard. I look forward to each one.

@sandyfollin4481 Yup, me too. Enjoy what you enjoy, always .
This is the content I love! Lots of great ideas for me to keep in mind as I’m making my house a home. ❤

As always dear Lady you are so spot on and inspiring, LOL, I thought you had a coffee stain on your blouse, Then realized it was your mike! lol
This helps so much as I am renovating my master bathroom, will just go with good old subway tile 😊
Nice tips. Thanks Kristen !!

Right. The texture of jute sings but they produce a debris similar to sawdust. Maybe a process needs to be invented that "seals" the jute?
Great ideas, especially the peel and stick wallpaper.
Proud Canadian ❤

For me, it was a single blueberry crushed into the jute. It was impossible to remove the stain.
Pressure washer
This.
Not even professional cleaning? 😮. I am just about to buy two! 🫣💰💰💰💰
Jute isn't timeless. Wool is
I agree with you 💯, Kristen. You and l have a similar style. 😀
This video helped me so much 🙏🏾❤️
Love it 🥰. The gallery rail is a great idea for shelving. Where do you get them?
I LOVE that you share all of this knowledge with us, and you are amazing to listen to, thank you ❤ 😊

Love this video, perfect timing for me as I am getting ready to do some home renovations!!
Great vid lots of info and great advice loved it thank you 😍😍😍❤️❤️❤️👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
Panel molding upgrades the look for creatively styled walls.
Love your channel!! You speak to smart solutions!! Cheers!
Good video! I would agree to avoid the colorful drapes.
You are the best I love everything you do I wish you can decorate my home with me ❤

Such great ideas! I love watching your videos and now I know exactly what type of rug I need for my entryway
Yay!!
I love your tips, thank you! I have a question though...aside from unlacquered brass, what other finishes are considered timeless? Style of door knob/lever? Thank you!

I always love watching you 😊 and thank you for your excellent ideas❤
Love these videos!
Hi Kriste, love your videos❤❤❤where did you buy your sofa? Thanks!
We got it at living spaces!
Another option for a rug is sea grass it cleans much better than jute and it doesn’t shed either.
Very helpful video. At 70 I am not even looking at 5 years down the line. I want to do the basics and have it last, and last. I can always spruce up with accessories. Now if I could only find an affordable couch that will be comfortable for a 5' frame. LOL
Great advice! I’ve heard that peel and stick wallpaper is very difficult to remove.
Thanks

Yes! Great suggestion
"Generally, it is recommended that sconces be placed at eye level, which is typically around 60 to 66 inches from the floor. This allows for the sconces to provide adequate lighting without causing harsh glare or discomfort and giving a perfect ambiance to a room."
Peel and stick wallpaper is the best option when using wall paper.
Always great advice, Kristen! Good job. xo
Great video! Can you please tell me what color green you have in your living room? I wanted to have an accent wall in our master bedroom.😄thanks!
What a helpful video, Kristen! You are so right, it's way too difficult to keep up with the trends and very expensive! I had coloured curtains and over the years I've swapped them out for white or neutral. So glad I did this! Thank you so much for all your tips and tricks!
Can you please make a video about mixing metals?
Kristen, can you put peel and stick in a ceiling? It also has crown moldings. 11x11 room
You could get a sample piece and test it out. I like this idea my ceilings need help!
Very true!! I bought a dark patterned sofa about 8 years ago and it’s the biggest mistake I ever made! I can’t wait to get rid of it.
Never been this early to a video. This video is very helpful thanks
At 10: 34 we see one gorgeous bedroom, all in layered neutrals.
Great video!!!
Excellent ideas!! Thank you so much!
I learned a lot. Thank you ❤
In FL we often don't do rugs at all because of the sand!
Good informative video!

Can't wait to see your dress!!😮😂
I love content like this. I enjoy and find all your suggestions in home decor very helpful.
Hi Kristen! Wow, I love the gallery rail, I dont believe I've ever seen one before on open shelves, what a difference it makes, very classy! Quick question I love jute rugs, but aren't they dusty from the fibers? How do you keep them clean I cant imagine you could vacuum a jute rug?
I vacuum my jute rug all the time. I do it with a lower level of suction, though. But I have never had a problem with vacuuming it 🤷🏼♀️
@@handsofpraise391 low suction, makes sense! Thank you 😊

Great video as usual! Trying to pick a backsplash now. Would you say marble herringbone is timeless?
Yes herringbone is always timeless and so is marble! I would only recommend doing this is your cabinet style is relatively simple and aren’t too busy! You don’t want too much going on! The herringbone can be a nice accent in a simple space!
I love your videos! You have such great advice!
Your sofa is incredible!!!! Where did you find that piece!

Great sharing
Hello Kristen, How are you and thank you for this video because it will help a lot with my house cos its kinda old. lol 😂
Perfect and helpful video. A question about drapes. I have vertical blinds that I must replace!! Are grommet drapes an ok choice? I need curtains that slide back and forth effortlessly as we close and open them every day. Thank you!
Skip grommets for higher end look and use ring clips or pleat hooks instead for easy open/close. My one cent 😊 input.
She has said she doesn't recommend grommet curtains.
I love the look of the tongue and groove chair rail! I was thinking about doing board and batten in my dining room but like this better! Is it different than shiplap?
Great, please review Scandinavian design
Fabulous! 😁💛
Kristen, love your channel! Would you really always use white or ivory curtains? What about rooms with dark green or dark blue walls ????
White curtains will work in your space.
Great video! Your content is so professionally presented and always on point!
Can you do a video on barn yard doors in your house
Hi Kristen! I very much enjoyed your video, and couldn’t help notice the lovely colour on your wall....do you mind me
Asking the name of it.
I love my couches but regret buying this color ( camel, caramel color) I would've rather go with off white.
Kristen - love your posts/videos! Thank you for all the tips! Can you recommend company to look for jute rugs offering a variety?
I have some transom windows above my windows in my living room. Should I hang curtains over or below them? They don’t bother me. We own close to six acres. So there should never be anyone up the hill on our land. I also have one in my laundry room and in the master bathroom. I’m not sure I can reach the one in the bathroom.
