Ryan presents an EXTREMELY well balanced approsch... one that directly parallels the best Long-Tone approach out there. What he lays out, will get you there as long as you adhere to his method. REST, as he integrates it, is just important as the playing is... including subsequent days.

Personally, I think this video and exercise is severely underrated. Very good job sir. I also love the fact that you actually played through the entire exercise; most videos on UA-cam would not go to that extent to make sure that the viewers have clarity on what is supposed to be done. Well done sir, keep up the good work. Greetings and blessings from Jamaica
P.S. That quote from Wynton is hilarious! I can totally see him saying something like that. What a guy lol.

Love this approach. Great to see another trumpeter who is familiar with the gym. Can’t believe that as a bodybuilder I never thought of taking this approach. Excellent! Gonna give it a try for sure!

@@RyanBeachtrumpet Just another comment: I have range up to double C that I use in my big band, latin and pop music gigs. Have to admit, it is fun to play in the upper register. BUT, what I see as the big possibility with this routine is to develop consistency, comfort and extension of the feeling of "minimal" tension playing high F and up. This is a killer for endurance if tension creeps in. the scale up to a sustained, mf, note is perfect combined with "reps". will let you know how it goes, but I am hopeful this will help me progress. Keep up the great, rational work!

Thanks for the video. Range and efficiency in general can be very frustrating to me because I feel like it limits my ability to make the music that I hear in my head. I’ll have to try these out.

What an awesome method for building range. I want, like everyone, to be musical in the upper register. This a great way to get there. I am now a subscriber. Thank you, than you, thank you.

The 10 second hold is something i havent tried. It seems like it would have addtional benefits as well such as building endurance and improving tone quality.

Hi Ryan, what causes headaches in trumpet playing? I only get them when I play high stuff or things that are difficult for me. Thanks!

    • @initialreviews8629

The headache is a pounding that lasts 1-5 seconds after I finish the note

I get them sometimes too, and I honestly don’t know why. It’s usually when I’m tired, and playing high for awhile, so maybe it’s just working too hard or trying to push too much air or something. I usually just grin and bear it if it’s in a rehearsal/concert and stop playing if I’m practicing.

@@RyanBeachtrumpet thank you for your response! Sometimes it feels like I’m the only one who gets them! I agree, I don’t have them when I’m fresh.
