  • DS may have been its own brand for four years, following the split from Citroen, but it's yet to actually release a brand new model. That's changed, however, thanks to the release of the new DS7 Crossback, a stylish SUV that's looking to go toe-to-toe with the best of what Germany is able to offer.
It'll need to offer up something special in order to win this battle, but thankfully it's got style, space and comfort on its side, but is it worth having? Find out in this video.
The model tested here is the Performance Line, which is fitted with the 1.6 litre turbocharged four cylinder Puretech 225 petrol engine, a new addition for the DS7 Crossback. It produces 222bhp with 300Nm of torque, with power fed to the front wheels via an 8-speed automatic.
62mph is dealt with in a respectable 8.3 seconds, and it will continue to a top speed of 141mph. Despite this clout, the DS7 Crossback feels more at home when you're cruising, especially when you have the Active Scan Suspension that is able to make the ride as smooth as a baby's bottom.

    I really like it.
I hired one in France for a week (The petrol 1.6 225 Opera) and it was gorgeous to drive on the motorway, just press a button and relax and it really felt as though it had some guts. It was fun to drive around country lanes too and suprisingly easy to drive and park in some of those tiny South of France villages
I wasn't left wanting if I needed to do a quick overtake and boy did it turn some heads...
    Great Video bty 🙂👌🏽

Great review, well-balanced and informative. You have nice style of communicating. I have an Audi at the moment and the general reviewer loves the German brands above most else and tend to dismiss rivals. But this car looks very good for the price and I am in the midst of sorting out a deal. Thank you so much.

Hi rurimino, thanks for the great feedback, and of course, thanks for watching! I try to be as fair as possible and I'd never class myself as a badge snob, although the minority have accused me of it in the past. I try to judge each car on its own merit, so it's fantastic to have that recognised 👍

Why people are suprissed about the glove box size is beyond me, it been like that for every psa product for over 20 year. To keep cost down the french do not move the fuse box for lhd and rhd models so the models have the fuse box sat inbyge glove box area.

Hi Keith, thanks for watching, and for commenting. I honestly did not know that about PSA Group cars, but now you've informed me, that makes perfect sense, as I can't remember any PSA cars I've driven that have a large glovebox. Thanks for the the intel. 👍

Very briefly mentioned, the chilled centre arm rest.this is standard on all the ds7s,open your wallet for this feature on German cars,if indeed it's available. To spec the competitors to this level go back to the bank for another £5000 or so.

Enjoyed this review and the review on the Citroen C5 Aircross. I agree with other comments that this car is expensive for what it is however, I have found a stock car available to lease at a bargain price which is why I am looking at them. Like the style of the review too. I miss the days of the more informative Top Gear programme when they used to review normal cars.

As I'm currently looking at purchasing another SUV, I found your review of the DS7 Crossback very Informative.
I currently have a 2017 Nissan Juke which will be part ex'd whenever I find my new 2018 SUV.
Looking at spending up to 35k on the new SUV, which must have good leg room.
*** All recommendations gratefully received ***
    Thanks Aaron

Hi there, I'm glad you enjoyed the review, thank you so much for your kind feedback. What would you be looking get from your SUV other than good legroom? There are so many on the market now, that it could be difficult to recommend on you'd be happy with. I'm testing the new Jeep Compass at the moment; that's in your price range and that offers good legroom. The boot isn't the biggest though.

when you drive in rain or snow all the durt or small chippings is on the door side do to the lower front doors design. Look at the tires over the doors this makes me mad . Im a DS7 owner

Agree completely with your conclusion. The whole car smacks of style over substance, something the Germans (and now, I am astonished to say, Volvo) have mastered. The tragedy is that there was a time when there were some brilliant French cars about - I had a Peugeot 306 GTI-6 in the old days. Brilliant chassis, brilliant interior (clean design but with panache), brilliant gearbox and engine. Oh, and a brilliant everyday car, something that VW have nailed with the Golf GTI and R. This car though....no.

" The whole car smacks of style over substance ". Nonsense. The mighty DS& has style AND substance.

I call BS on your comment, Steve. The DS7 oozes class, style and substance. It's a brilliant. Give it a rest.
