Great stuff! For those confused he’s not referring to contacting the ball on the toe as much as he means to have the toe down and striking the dirt with the toe. So the clubface is not even, flat to the ground. Shaft is tilted nearly vertical so the toe is the only part of the club face that touches the dirt. Yes the ball also contacts closer to the toe too. The toe won’t dig or be impeded by sticky grass as much because theres so much less contact surface than having the whole sole of the clubface contacting the grass. Less friction. Downside- if grass is deep you risk sliding right under the ball. Also you have to aim further left because toe down will point clubface to right. And ball strikes softer so will land softer.
Raymond Floyd did the same thing and had one of the best short games ever,. Paul's "oval" bunker tip helped me make my bunker play one of the best parts of my game. It sure is nice to have no fear around the greens.
I think this is advanced stuff. Like going hitting to within 10 feet from the hole to 2 feet from the hole on chips. He just has total control over the club and the ball in those chips.
Totally agree. Wish I'd learned the game from the green backwards as a kid but am making up for it now. And am scoring better and enjoying the game more as a result. Who'd have thunk it!
I don't know how impressed I am with this tip - according to the wear spot on my clubs, I am able to hit it off the toe every time without even trying. Haha!
Impressive as he is talking about hitting off the toe he sticks a couple of tricky ones to gimme range. Gonna have to start keeping that shaft more upright and going off the toe on those devilish little short pitches around the green.
RollYourRock Be patient. I live in NY are we are in the worst golf winter up here that I have seen in years. Not sure I still remember how to swing the club. That Azinger technique sure looks like a keep though. Keep those fine vids coming RYR!
RollYourRock Played some good golf this season. Handicap down to a 5. Still want it all the way down but those last few strokes are very tough to shed. Mostly got to be a better putter. Just switched to cross handed putting and it feels excellent. I see why so many pros putt that way. How did your season go?
Hi! Im a big fan! Love your channel! Do you think you could possibly find some footage of Hunter Mahans putting stroke last week? He was 2nd in strokes gained and if hunter can putt well theres not alot stopping him from becoming a serious major championship contender in my opinion

I just love hearing stories like yours! - Cheers! RYR
Excellent presentation and concept.
Hes a major winner
I love the toe for straightforward chip shots but mine are a small hop and run. He gets them in the air quite a bit. Hard to do with an upgright club.

Love to spend an hour with Paul.
I thought exactly the same when I first watched this... Cheers! 🙂

I'll see what I can find...
He's almost looking at the hole when he hits the ball.
