This video is one of the reasons I got a balalaika, and it was the first song I learned how to play three years ago. Now I have to perform a song for my Russian class tomorrow, and I think I'm going to play this!
I first heard this in the video game "Tetris" as a kid and never knew that it was a folk song. This was really enjoyable and I learned something new. I grew just a little more as a human being. Thank you.
Got a balalaika yesterday. From my Belarusian family for my 26th birthday. It's different then the guitar I've been playing for 9 years now. I like it. Looking forvard to learning how to play. I pretty much got the hang of this song. Knowing how to play a string instrument sure helps.
Good day Sir Alex Siniavski, I like the music they play so flawless and easy to listen to, if you could I would like to me to facilitate the korobushka scores for accordion, I like the music of your country. I hope I answered. a hug. Miguel
Wondering if you play all steel strings (sounds like it), or a mix of steel and nylon? Some sources say the TRADITIONAL way is nylon (gut) for the E strings and steel for the A. When I pick up an instrument, I like to play it the traditional (old fashioned) way, not some watered-down modernized/westernized way. Your insight is much appreciated. Whatever strings I use, this will likely be the first song I learn, so thanks for the video!
On Ebay, you can get a cheap, plastic-bodied balalaika new. It's being listed as "High Quality Balalaika" and it's pretty rugged for gigging. It's made by Trembita, a respectable Ukrainian guitar maker, and it goes under the model number 'B-61.' Although it falls short compared to professional concert balalaikas, it is a million times better than the Soviet souvenirs being sold on eBay (which I sadly fell for) and emailing a dodgy Russian music store. And, it doesn't sound that bad for being made of 75% plastic! Hopefully the shipping prices from Kiev to the UK aren't too bad.
Just get a nice vintage one, make sure it is in good condition though, they tend to just be nicer than the newer ones but that's just my personal opinion
@SpannerLytic I got a brand new 3 string Balalaika from ebay for £130 and it's a wonderful instrument. To pay less than that you're going to have to get a second hand one, which has its risks so do some research first. Happy hunting!
Please correct me. If I am wrong. Shouldn't the proper term be ... Uzbek (if ethnicity) - Of the Uzbek people / tribe / ethnic group. Uzbeki (if nationality) - Of / from the land / culture of Uzbekistan. Uzbekistanian sounds like Pakistanian or Iranian. Instead of Pakistani or Irani.
+mrsebumatica Actually I don't think the original Tetris had any music. This song comes from the Nintendo version of Tetris. (Although there are more versions of Tetris than I have leaves lying in my back garden. BTW Anyone want to come round and pick them up?? :-))
I took a ukulele, pulled the g string out of the way, and re tuned it and it works like a charm. Greetings from Michigan, USA

You're right. I'm English and I also like both, hence why I own a bouzouki and a balalaika.

Shmuel P they do. I live in America and order stuff from russia ('not music) and it comes. Just a bit lengthy

It depends on personal preference. Nylon may be easier to play, but steel will last longer
