    I used to be at the mercy of my own mind until I found Eckhart. His advice has solved some of the most crucial mind problems for me, especially my ego, and now I am able to remain cool, calm, collected, and accepting of difficult situations whenever they arise in my life. This mans legacy should be honored by erecting a bronze statue of him sat upon a bronze bench in that very park where he was enlightened by everything he saw around him. Thanks so much for your kind advice Eckhart.

    Buddhism and Stoicism helps me with this - why worry about things you have no control over? Worry or work on what you can control - which isn’t much anyway. Be happy you are breathing - that’s enough

    • @yoinkhaha
      @yoinkhaha 10 днів тому

      I find the transition from “be aware of your breathing” to “do one thing toward a goal” to be extremely disjointed and difficult. If it is enough that you are breathing in that moment, why work toward anything at all? But then 6 weeks later you feel unfulfilled. Should you simply forget that some life situations are nicer than others, that it’s nicer to have a pool in your backyard and create fulfilling projects and go on family trips, because it’s enough to breathe and you have no problems? If you can’t visit Sardinia with your family and you would like to, then clearly you do have a problem. Whether you view it as a problem you have now or a problem your future self will have if you don’t find a different life situation, is irrelevant, but what’s not irrelevant is simply breathing and doing basic daily tasks without thinking about the future will not fulfill most people. You have to think about the future sometimes or you are likely to wind up homeless.
      You can view it as, “just thinking, not actually trying to live in and (suffer because of) a future that hasn’t happened yet”, but I find it very hard to make the jump from awareness of the moment to planning. As soon as I am planning anything, I am already lost in the sauce.
      Fact is, we aren’t dogs, and thank god because as I recall, my first dog died due to an infection that came from a wound from scratching due to skin allergies which it had been on steroids for its whole life. My second dog was neurotic its whole life from being mistreated by its first owner. If only they could have been self aware, they may have not suffered as much as they did.

      Yes true, but they happen to others. And therefore in a way they happen to us too. This connectiveness, we all being part of everyone and everything else, can be deeply felt in various ways. Being compassionate, non-judgemental and having faith are ways of 'easing our minds' and healing the collective one. Faith in fact would mean no worry at all, everything is just the way it should be. That's why it's so difficult having faith in our thinking-era.
      It's really difficult not to 'worry-think' at all, but if you can (sometimes), it's a huge relief.

      The row started because Rab used to say “och aye the noo” a lot, especially when he took a slug from a bottle, and he felt that Eckhart was ripping him off by planning to call his book “The power of now” .
      To be fair, he had a point , because nowhere in any of the editions of “Power of Now” is there any dedication or acknowledgment to Rab, full name Robert Macguffin. Check it for yourself. It seems to be a classic case of cultural appropriation on the part of Eckhart, in this case, from the Scottish.

    Eckhart is a great spiritual teacher and his teachings did help 'me'. But 'I' got stuck on being the consciousness for a while. I realized that I AM not the consciousness- for the consciousness- the God- the I AM-ness also appears in "Me" so I cannot even be that. Being consciousness is much better than the ego, but it is still not the ultimate state. There is no ego, there is no consciousness, there is no I AM in the ultimate state, these all appear in that state and also disappear in that state. This is the true meaning of the Holy Trinity in Christianity I believe. The Father is the Ultimate State, The Holy Spirit is the I AM, and the Son is the incarnate form or ego. When one reaches the state of the Father that is the Kingdom of Heaven or God which is why the three are in fact One. Thank you Eckhart for your teachings, I see that you are conveying the truth of the nature of Reality.

      Without being rude, the fact you need to use the word imagine is where your suffering on behalf of animals begins and ends. Our imagining the suffering of other does absolutely nothing to ease or end the suffering of others it merely causes us to suffer unnecessarily. It's not about not caring, it's about choosing no to suffer because our minds tell us we should suffer 🙏🙏🙏🙏

    When Narcissus looks into the pond, he thinks the reflection is an other, not him. The metaphor is applicable in the sense that what we presume to be ‘other’ is actually ourselves, until we transcend Narcissus, or the separate self sense.
