Love seeing you cover the woman’s side to Mark, should be a great tournament, I loved the last World Cup over here in NZ I went to all the games here in Whangarei, was a great time!
I hope England drop back a little bit, just to make it more of a fight. But England really has shown a willingness to embrace women’s sport generally, so this should be huge for women’s rugby regardless. I’m quite optimistic we’ll see big big crowds.
Quite right, England have done a super job with women's sport across the board, kudos to all involved and can only help other nations who want to take 'em down a Peggy or two :D
The Red Roses group is the toughest on paper. They need hard games early on to circumvent any complacency. Their depth is insane, and have their own bomb squad on the bench, Or super 8 as Mitch calls them. When Emily Scarratt can only get a bench place, you know there's depth.Too many players to look out for, but three unsung hero's, Maud Muir, the Maudinator at TH is a beast in attack and defence, Sadiya Kabeya at 7 is just phenomenal.and Tat Heard at 12. She's dynamic, powerful, and great distributor. The back 3 are sensational. Both the Wallaroos and USA should give them good workouts in different ways. USA mega fit, and good pack. Wallaroos have an exceptional back line, and Jo Yapp as coach. She should have been offered the Roses job IMO, she's that good, but Mitch has endeared himself to the fans already. Canada group looks a bit lopsided, and they're one of the sides that could beat the Roses, as could the Ferns with another years progression. Good pack, but young back line that looks superb, but overplays a bit in the wrong areas of the pitch. Canada should have the best 8 in world rugby, Sophie De Goede back from injury, and an immense pack. France are a dark horse. If they click, they can beat anyone, but much depends on their 9, Pauline Bourdon Sansus. Best in the world in her position, as is their 12 Gabby Vernier. Pocket rocket who is a turnover freak, and tackles props for fun considering how tiny she is. An outside bet for the Semi's to upset one of the big 4, Ireland. Their improvement in a year has been stratospheric, much of it I'd say down to the attitude of their newish coach, Scott Bemand, who was Roses attack coach until after the last world cup. They have a 6/8 Aoife Wafer, who's 21 I think, and is an absolute beast, plus a belief in themselves after a recent win over the ferns.
Draw could not have worked out more perfectly for my Bok Women🙏🏼 Hoping with the new super league and us finally going professional means we keep inproving and make the knockout stage next year🙏🏼🇿🇦
Awesome to see Brazil and Spain in there, two countries not renown for rugby. My money is on an Red Rose vs Black Fern final. And we know how that went last time.
@@jimfletcher789 Yeah, Canada are doing well. The 2024 Pacific series was their first ever win against NZ out of 18 games played. But the Black Ferns have 6 out of 9 world cups in their cupboard, that's pretty impressive.
Pool A Rank 1, 5, 9, 15 Pool B Rank 2, 7, 10, 17 Pool C Rank 3, 6, 11, 13 Pool D Rank 4, 8, 12, 42 So Pool D is the “easy” pool, the others are looking competitive but England, Aus, USA is a strong top 3.
Brazil is ranked 42, but they comfortably beat Colombia away who are ranked 29, so even though they're make weights they are still much better than their current ranking.
Oscar, your men are clearly more interested in supporting the women’s game than the English seem to be…. Soya has just been on a women’s rugby podcast!
What the route to the rest of the competition looks like is going to be important. So being in a group with England and coning second might mean you have an "easier" 2nd round game. The schedule is announced on the 22nd.
Although we managed to avoid England, The Black Ferns always come good at the World Cup, as the last one proved. But some good matchups to look forward to.
It's worth listening to Ellie Kildunne and Jess Breach talking on their latest podcast (Rugby Rodeo). Very honest about how much England were tested by Canada in WXV1. One of them comments that the rest have closed the gap on England. I'm English, and I'm not confident at the moment ... Anything can happen in a year.
Blackferns still have the fire power to outscore England out of all the other teams yeah England were all conquering last World Cup and they were piped at the post.
Most teams are building to peak at the WRWC so I wouldn't read too much into the performances 12 months out. Many teams switch to another level when they hear the words "World Cup" ringing in their ears, which can lead to unexpected results.
@TwoCentsRugby Canada have traditionally been a powerhouse in women's rugby, with very little funding. It's helped them that many of their squad play in England's PWR, which gives them quality games on a regular basis.
Pessimist - Tough draw for the Scots I'd say! Canada will have too much. So many close games against Wales (including an agonizing loss at the last RWC) and as you say you never know with Fiji at a World Cup, they could have it all put together. Optimist - We had really good wins against Wales and Fiji in the WXV warm ups and the Scottish team is in a really good place right now. They should be targeting 3 wins in order to avoid England in the QFs!
Both Canada and NZ are close enough to pressure England. England were just as hot favourites for the last World Cup but got a red card in the final and lost.
In the last WC France were also favourite, losing only in the last minutes to NZ in the semi final when Drouin missed a very easy penality Just look at the France England game in the pool stage, it was a real battle But ngl the actual french team isn't at the same level than 2 years ago, the new staff has discarded players with experience and while they were on the rising they seems to go downside. Hope the coaches will get fired afte the next WC
The chat around NZ is the player dropoff (retirements) and the lack of regular games. It's very weird that the ladies in nz play a couple of months of super rugby, then get rested from the farah palmer cup for int'l duty. How much play are they getting? Very young team this year and i genuinely thought they looked tired or out of shape. That might be harsh, but it's just a theory
Thanks Mark. After what happened to England last RWC and the surprise result in the Women's T20 cricket world cup today, which saw the overwhelming favourites Australia defeated by SA, I don't think it is definitely England's RWC this time.
Don't forget the Roses were 12-0 up and cruising before having to play 60 mins a player down after RC in the last final, and still almost won against a very good Ferns team
Thanks for that vid - forgot about the draw. England clear favs. Canada my second fav - De Goode possibly best all round player (captain / kicker) in world rugby. Pool A is tough.. love pool B with Scot & Wales. C &D likely straight forward… hopefully draw means A plays D and NZ could avoid England to make the finals - and then it’s all to play for …
After the ABS northern tour Wayne Smith needs to concentrate with the women team for solid 12 months get all our top players FIT AND STRONG for that World Cup
I'm not against expansion for the WRWC, but given the gulf in class between the top 3-4 teams and everyone else I have to wonder if it's too early to be doing this. Better get to work on that Brazil logo though!

@clarke1319 that's totally incomprehensible to me. It looked like during the tournament and the warm-up match against England, that they refused to kick when they absolutely should have done it and then they kicked when it was too late ( and even badly). They literally put themselves in the England's clutches...over and over again. I found it disturbing. In my opinion, they are playing a very monolithic style of rugby, regardless the situation in front of them or the nature of the opposition. The same style I saw playing in The Aupiki e FPC by the way. Where has the awareness and resourcefulness in the game gone...the one that has been the trademark of Kiwi rugby, I wonder. And weirdly ( or not ) it seems that the same traits are affecting the AllBlacks and the U20, who look equally unable in managing games.
