This movie literally gave me Arachnophobia as a kid, but for the sake of my love of this channel, I shall persist.
Me too. However, I've gotten better about it over the past few years. Let most of the spiders I find in my house outside.
I have severe arachnophobia. I have always had it, but I remember watching this when I was young and it scarred me. I still remember certain scenes. I was not looking at the screen while listening to this podcast but I still want to give them my view.
@@Pestica88 Yeah. I saw it when I was around 6-7. My half-sister was having a sleepover with a neighbor, and I snuck in to watch it. I remember this movie vividly.
Weirdly, it did the opposite for me. It made me really interested in spiders and even as an adult it left me with the bad habit of trying to grab any spider I see lol

one day I walked into my old apartment and I heard footsteps, something like you'd hear if a small dog is running around... BUT I had no doggie and thought it was a big rat. As soon I turned the lights on, I saw the biggest tarantula ever and she was, in fact, so big and heavy that you could hear it walking.
I removed myself from the front door, just said "If you don't mind" while pointing outside and the spider ACTUALLY LEFT as it was waiting for it!!

Don’t think it was a slur thou
@@daltonjames7717 not a slur but definitely derogatory. It's an insult along the same lines as hillbilly or redneck. Not necessarily fighting words but it won't win you any friends either
Whomever yea I know it’s not meant as a compliment I just wouldn’t go as far as calling it a slur
Carpetbaggers were profiteers who came from the North to take advantage of the reconstruction era southerners. they were called that for the cheap luggage cases they would bring that were made of carpet fabric.
@@nathanmcdougall1093 probably time to reevaluate the carpet bagger I figure. Seems to me they came down and wanted money for their work and Southerners had been too used to not having to pay their workers...
I remember Eight Legged Freaks being one of the only “scary” movies I could watch as a kid as a huge chicken. And I absolutely LOVED it!
Same! I loved watching it. Made me feel brave lol.
I effing love that movie. I HATE spiders so fricking much but that movie is hilarious and I fall out everytime those damn spiders laugh
Eight Legged Freaks solidified my appreciation for David Arquette as an actor. Fun movie, awesome effects for its time, and it would make for both an awesome kill count and a great podcast. Btw does anyone else remember that epic FPS that was made to promote the Eight Legged Freaks movie?

Chelsea mentioned the avondale spider and I immediately had to look it up, since I'm an Aussie and I've near heard of it. Saw a picture, it's a huntsman. I didn't realise they were social, but maybe that explains why they always seem to be hanging out closer than other spiders tend to. Just think if they made this movie now they would probably have all CGI spiders. It's insane that they used that many actual spiders.
Chelsea’s love for John Goodman is bringing me joy.
Jeff Daniels’ memory of the spider crawling up his body while he was a helpless toddler is a setup for the climax of the film, when he has to wait while the General spider crawls up the length of his body to the piece of wood so he can catapult it away.

Ahh, Arachnophobia! When I was about 8 years old, my older brother had to watch me while our family was out. He had no idea what to do, so he set me down in the basement to watch whatever was on TV. It was this movie! It gave me a quite literally crippling fear of spiders. I start to shake and feel like I’ll be attacked when I just think of the little demons. I’m making this comment before watching because I don’t know if I’ll be able to get through it, but I’ll do my best for my favorite podcast! If I can’t do it, I’ll leave it on in the background so you still get my view.

Thanks for the advice, homie. I’m about to live on my own, so I decided I needed to start getting better with spiders, y’know? I’ve already started killing them on my own, and hopefully the UA-cam channel you recommended can help me even more
Oh man, This is a throwback. I cant believe I missed this episode! My dad and I used to pop this on at least twice a year. We are overdue, time to watch it again!
The spider in the shower scene was the most realistic part of the entire movie. I have had that happened to me before and I never close my eyes in the shower any longer that 10 seconds because of it 😂

Chelsea's description of "having Merchant Ivory blinders on" finally gives a name to my gut reaction to Hugh Grant's characters, which is "No! He's a dick! You're not supposed to end up with him!" because the first thing I ever saw him in was the film adaptation of E.M. Forster's novel 'Maurice'.
Thank you guys for everything you do. You helped me learn to respect the horror genre that I never understood before. I've learned so much through your podcasts and kill counts. And while I fell off the wagon of watching for a while, the past couple of weeks you've been a real lifeline. When everything felt bleak and almost nothing sounded worthwhile anymore, the thought of sitting and listening to you two talk about what you love still sounds good. Things feel a little less bad after listening and learning with your videos. I'm sure I'm not the only one who you've made a difference for. So really, thank you.

Loved the intro, James!
Story time : when I was little I used to live in my brothers room with bunk beds . And one night while I was like 7-8 yrs old I was on the top bunk and I was messing around and I fell over the rail just like Jeff Daniels in the third act and landing on (luckily) on a pile of blankets on the floor. Lol instead of going though the floor into a room with a king/queen spider . But even then I knew and remember that scene from this movie . And I thought it was cool that I did that .
This movie came out when I was two, and I definitely remember impressions of it from then (because my mom did not think kids that young could remember anything anyway...) Particularly the greenish cast to the almost skeletal corpse and the spider escaping the coffin without notice, the shower scene, and the hundreds of tiny spiders crawling out of the every crevice of the sink.
Still not really afraid of spiders, though. Hell, one time while waiting for a ride I sat down on a porch and didn't realize there were a bunch of spiders on the rail until they started crawling onto me while weaving.

A friend of mine worked at a local grocery store when we were in high school. One day he was unloading a crate of bananas and a huge Brazilian Wandering Spider ran out of one of the crates. They had to evacuate the store and spent half the day hunting the little bastard down before it killed somebody
26:15 I just have to say that I think this gag is funny, but specifically based on an experience I had in high school. I was taking an anatomy and physiology class and one day we were able to go on a field trip to a morgue. When we got there, we took a tour and did a write-up, then ate lunch before heading into the lab portion of the outing. We were able to examine an open cadaver, hold some of the organs, and talk to some of the doctors about behind-the-scenes stuff and common myths. It was after this, as we were leaving the building and driving back to school, where most of the class started talking about snacks and being hungry - and then we drove past some restaurant that smelled like burgers and the whole bus LOST THEIR MINDS. Everyone was so hungry and our teacher finally explained that one of the chemicals used often when dealing causes the hunger sensors in our brains to activate.
I can't remember the chemical, so sorry for not being specific, but I can never forget that experience, and it makes me chuckle every time I see that gag.

The spider used to bite Peter Parker in the Rami film was a black widow that was painted but the huntsman spider, used in Arachnophobia, was used in the first wall crawling scene in the alley. That particular spider has a very particular walk and was chosen to be shown to give Peter the inspiration to try to climb the wall.
