Hi brother in think you should put coolant in the system without proper coolant you’re going to damage the engines internal parts then do a pressure test or get some of that head gasket test fluid that uses air from the coolant and the liquid changes color if there are exhaust fumes in the coolant Keep us updated god bless
Just did this swap myself and was having over heating issues also not as bad as yours.. i upgraded the radiator and am still testing things out... it will reach 215 under load but goes down to about 205 once reach cruising speeds 70 to 75 with ac on.. still concerned it will get hot if i have to tow something... outside temps here in texas are around 100.
I appreciate knowing what your results are like! Same thing here in Florida, high 90s with feels like over 100. I don't think I'd be able to pull even an empty car trailer without overheating just yet, much less a loaded trailer
What thermostat are you running? And are you using the Navi intake manifold? I removed the thermostat today and drove around. It’s much better. Still climbs to about 225-ish while under heavier load but idles at 188-190 with AC on. Seems like I have a bad t-stat
On the old Ford diesels, the 7.3 could run on water all day (unloaded), but the 6.0 would overheat unless you actually had the proper amount of coolant and water in it.
Interesting! I was wondering that. I haven't put coolant in it yet since it's so much more annoying to drain/fill that way. I think I'll do another flush and then try real coolant
I have no clue what could be causing the overheating issue; I hope you are able to find a solution. I don't think I'm right or on to anything, but just in case, do you know if there is a difference between the engine that was in this truck versus the 4V Navigator engine you swapped in regards to the water pump and the direction the cooling system flows?
Yeah good thinking! The water pump part part number is the same for both trucks so I think that’s ok. Along with the sensors, almost everything is the same
I’m not an expert but I honestly think using water instead of coolant is the issue or at least a contributing Factor. Because it has a lower boiling point it allows for runaway temperatures. Overheating can also be caused by timing problems. And system pressure sometimes a radiator cap can go bad and not properly seal.
Yeah, I agree that’s definitely a contributing factor at this point. Got a brand new OEM cap too so that shouldn’t be an issue. Gonna flush the engine again and then try a proper coolant mix. Fingers crossed that does the trick!
A man of culture, I see! I'm on the hunt for a very specific LS430. I've had an LX470 and an LC 100 series and love them both. One day I'll get a 200/LX570, for sure.
Looking for a black exterior, interior in good shape (color doesn't matter) and then the non-navigation touch screen center stack. And it needs to be mechanically broken so I can fix it on the channel haha. What's your project?
@@JJinMotion got it. Yeah since all my cars have to live outside, I will never own a black car just too infuriating to keep clean haha. As it is my LS400 is bad enough in that department, it is star sapphire pearl which is the dark blue. Lovely color though. I am just learning to work on it just refreshing basic stuff. After I finish brakes I’m moving to front lower suspension. I have also addressed some misc so far, thermostat, gauge cluster (I transplanted some needles from a better junkyard cluster and installed some makeshift needle stoppers), replaced door computer for windows, random stuff like that. So brake work currently and suspension work on deck… I miss my LS430 and I think I will be back in one eventually. It was ultimate grandpa spec - gold on tan, with OEM chrome rims. One recommendation. Avoid Mark Levinson sound system at all costs. You have been warned haha!! Although can make for good content. I had to pull and re-foam every speaker in the car. And the amp has to be refurbished. That is expensive if you can’t do yourself.
Nope, haven’t had it blow out the resorvior yet but when the temp needle goes up I get off the gas so I don’t destroy the engine and then temps come back down. That’s partly why I was thinking it’s erroneous readings
After trying almost everything, I ended up just running without the thermostat and it's been totally fine ever since. Not an ideal solution, especially if you do lots of short drives or live in a very cold place, but I've put over 500 miles on it this way and no issues so far. I do anticipate trying to figure this out for real, but I wanted to stop messing with it and use the truck
@@JJinMotion perfect I’ll do this cleaning solution and see how it does , I live in Arizona where it tends to be hot most of year so you can definitely guess what I’ve been going through with the truck since the swap
@@cristianmedina3396 Haha yeah I can totally imagine. The thremacure did work wonders, the coolant is no longer rusty for sure. I feel no thermostat would work fine for you as well in AZ
Yeah man, I followed your build as my inspiration and despite having done so much to every part of the cooling system I still had trouble. The only thing I can guess at this point is the exhaust isn’t getting the heat out of the head maybe? But not certain of that
Ive tried CLR as a cleaner. It cleaned out loads of junk from heater core/radiator. Flushing with distilled water. Worked great for me.
Interesting! Haven't tried that yet. Gonna try to run without the thermostat briefly to see if that helps and then decide what to do from there

So you been driving it now?....Did you get the tune issues resolved? BTW you want the cooling fan temp as close to the engine coolant out.
great vid man, and ticked over the 1k subs mark! awesome work
Thanks so much homie ❤️
Did you make sure your fans are moving in the right direction, i know sometimes they get reversed by accident and are blowing instead of sucking
You could try going to a mechanical clutch fan style instead of electric fans also

Temps always come down to about 180 at idle and running mechanical fan with new fan clutch.

215 sounds fine. Newer cars run hotter. Don’t be obsessed with getting a low temp there’s a wide range of acceptable temps.

@JJinMotion a Motorrad high flow 170degree.. bought from Amazon. Yes I'm using the complete navi intake.
take the block plugs out and flush the block. 1/2 NPT plugs on the cylinder walls. one on each side
Oh nice! Didn’t realize there was one on both sides. Will check the passenger since I’ve just been doing driver
Only thing I can think of didn’t see the build but did you over bore cylinders and have thin walls?
No boring required in this case!
You need to flush it a couple more times with the rust cleaner IMO you should always clean the block out while its out. Get a brush set and clean
Head bolts may be under/over torqued
burp the coolant from the crossover. if there is no port use the temp sensor right under the throttle body.

@@JJinMotion good luck
Try block testing fluid
What blinker fluid do you use?
Estus!
@@JJinMotionthat’s the best blinker fluid out there it’s fully synthetic 😂😂
sounds like there was a bubble still in it that can happen if not my guess next would be head gasket
Will try again and hope it’s not head gasket

Maybe a bad head gasket?
Certainly a possibility but I can’t imagine how with it being brand new
@@JJinMotiontheres many ways a new head gasket can leak. Is it an MLS gasket?
Exhaust going into the cooling system. That's it.
