I was kind of hoping I'd get to see someone posting different ways to get up there to Rich mountain fire Tower that's one of our favorite places to visit 😊
Soooooooo.....my OnX subscription lapsed...so I didn't know the difficultly of this road until I got too Deep in my Stock Subaru outback...and I made it all the way down by the grace of god with nothing but traction boards and a prayer. I got stuck on the second to last fire break, and needed to be winched out by the Greenville rescue squad. I'm not sure if it's a testemate to my stupidity and unpreparedness or to how dope subaru's AWD system is hahahaha
@@WolfOverland we were just taking a leisurely Sunday drive to check out the fire tower and turned off hurricane gap to check it out. Had NO idea the road would turn into a legitimate trail. So lucky we made it through without destroying my car. Learned my lesson for sure. Subaru for the win hahaha
You also use chainsaw first to cut deep groove ontop of tree trunk. Then when you cut up from the bottom it is less likely to pinch/wedge the bar in the tree trunk.
Yes. It is seasonal. So it may be closed. This video is old. Lately they are shutting everything down. Best bet is check the online map. Nc has an interactive one. We had a nasty storm the day before.
@@WolfOverland Thanks for the quick reply. I guess I need to get out the gaia and see what I can find. I didn't see anything on your route that I think my 4runner would have trouble with, but I would just like to avoid all the pinstriping. Really enjoying your videos. Keep up the good work! Thanks again!
at 8:18 exactly why FS is closing roads , please use common sense FS doesn't want anyone in the woods at all but doing that gives them that much more ammo, and posting on u tube really, at least don't post on social media bad behavior unless you really don't care about keeping roads open, and I'm sure the washed out area would not be cool with the man
I had you playing while I was working on my jeep and forgot what chill station I turned on!!
lol
Nice music to have in the background

3 ways I saw on the map. Gates are seasonal
When cutting a tree laying sideways….
Start the upper cut first, then finish with the under cut!!!
No wedged blades anymore!!! lol
@@kidt3068 yeah a bit of a learning curve
Had no idea about the shad road route when we went up there. We'll have to check it out next time we're that way. Great video
Thanks!

Hahah you didn’t watch any videos on this trail first? You can kinda get a feel for the difficulty!

@@aidansullivan-dp8px yes. That is impressive!
Break out an old trusty ax and use some muscle power to chop that long tree trunck into small enough pieces to move ir out of the trail.

I got some chainsaw wedges. I’ve been having success with that too since then.
Thanks for the tip!
After seeing this video, I have dropped a pin in Gaia, so that I can track this as a definite TODO trail. Thanks for sharing.
So this whole thing was open when you went!?!?

Gloves and eye protection
Safety squints !!!! Yes. I need to add eye protection to the chainsaw. I have gloves somewhere
Nice video! Just wondering, is there an alternate route to get to the fire tower without all the pin striping?
Yes. There is a back way up that is all gravel a civic can make it.

So looking at this on the map. Did you start at the more southern end of this trail or the more northern end of this trail?
Welp. I asked the question as I was watching. Then right after I commented, I could see on your Uconnect screen which direction you went. 😂
add a tripod and film from other than the hood, nice work
That clown damaged the road instead of clearing the tree, i hate people. Great video though.
thanks!
