this is great... it says a lot how examiners grade our essay. In my last Ielts exam, I scored 6.5 only, Just like what he said in this video--- I could say that I have a strong grammar and vocabulary but my position, body paragraph structures is weak and vague as it was my first ever written essay. I have never practiced writing an essay before my exam. I was not able to add conclusion too. What he is saying here are all true.

Well, a clearly pitched video, except the conclusion. Still trying to adapt to Jay 's way but Mark's way of conclusion is a bit complex; however, he is talking from an examiner's point of view and that could be the reason, people like us stuck at 6.5. I believe you will upload more videos to help us understand writing "conclusions". Thank you very much. "Stay home & Stay safe"

hey IELTS test taker, conclusion should reinstate your thesis statement which includes your opinion if asked, the topic sentences of paragraphs should be summed up. you can also give a prediction, suggestion or outcome.

Can my opinion be the same as what other people are believing?
Criminal sentencing has been a hot topic in society for a very long time, with some people believing that longer prison sentences being the best way to decrease crime, whilst others are of the belief that there are alternative ways to lower crime. In this essay, I will showcase both sides of this argument as well as give my own opinion on the matter.
One of the biggest reasons for advocating for longer jail time is that it will deter others from committing an offense. By knowing the punishment is greater beforehand, potential offenders may think to themselves “Is this really worth it?”, thus reducing the crime rate. This attitude towards greater sentencing has already been implemented in countries such as Qatar and Saudi Arabia who’s severe punishments have yielded lower crime rates.
However, many argue that by increasing jail time it could potentially have negative effects on the individual as those charged with minor offenses would spend longer in prison, thereby turning them into hardened criminals. In addition, if prison sentences were to increase, released convicts would find it even harder to integrate back into society as employers do not look favourably at criminals who have spent the majority of their lives in prison. With no way of earning money the legitimate way, these individuals would revert to their criminal ways which would lead them back into prison, thereby creating a vicious cycle.
In my opinion, I believe that serious crimes such as murder warrant longer prison sentences with mandatory therapy to help the individual, however lesser crimes such as vandalism and petty theft should be met with short-term prison sentencing with programmes and community service to help at-risk individuals.

Q1 - The essay which is shown excluding the conclusion is 321 words ( introduction 60, para 1 - 84, para 2 - 84, para 3 - 91). If I assume another 40 words for conclusion ..we are talking about an essay of 360+ words. This is not practically achievable.( especially written tests). Or am I missing out something here?
Q2 - How do we split the word limit in each para in this case? Intro 50, body1 - 70, body2- 70, body 3-70, conclusion- 40? Still, this essay is around 300 words. Could you pls explain the division ?
Q3- Is it necessary to have a third opinion to have such an essay structure? Can't I just stick to one of the views ?
