Digger was given a piece of land by old man Southworth and good deal from Jock on Ewing 6 and pissed it away. He refused Jock's partnership then gave up the land on Southfork for less than it's value. Digger later found out that the land was rich with oil. So in his mind, he thought Jock cheated him. As far as Miss Ellie, he to busy drinking to notice she had fallen for Jock and Jock had fallen for her. So basically Digger screwed Digger.

Jock sighed his name when Ewing 6 had come in when he told Digger they would split it and their heirs to prevent Digger from drinking and gambling his half away since he had been known to drink and gamble away so when Digger got angry about what his only friend Jock had done he brought everything that happened on himself and not to Jock
Digger Barnes/ David Wayne won this one. I am sorry but the scene was over the top! Great writing and acting. Digger destroys the morning’s peace by showing up drunk and destroying lawn decorations. Digger tells Jock off again and then sells his grown daughter. WOW. That was tough! Jock held his own but he did pay off Digger. LOL 😂
I could imagine Jock and Digger possibly being friends; as the later episodes suggested. But those alcoholic friends eventually wear on you and turn themselves into enemies. By that time, Jock probably was like "to hell with that fool".
fwdthinker There’s s scene in a later episode where Jock is criticizing Digger, and Miss Ellie admonishes him, “Jock, Digger was your partner and your friend!” And then she says quietly, “I still think of him as a friend.”
The first four years of this show with Jim Davis were the best of the series. By the time the show ended, it had gotten so silly that it was embarrassing. You could tell that everyone was just phoning it in.
Happens with every show, the energy and excitement wanes and by the end, it's a protracted mess. The one exception I'd say was Gunsmoke; it got better and the final 5 years were the best

Originally, what is now called season 1, was only supposed to be a 5 episode miniseries. It did so well in the tv ratings, CBS ordered 13 episodes for the 1978-79 season, and was picked up a series quickly that fall.
It was proven in the 29th episode of season 7 in May of 1985 that Jock never stole or cheated Digger out of his share of Ewing Oil. Digger Barnes and Jason Ewing sold their shares to a man named Wallace Windham and when Jock found out, he bought their share back and became sole owner!

I don’t think they should let Digger drive in his condition. Also, Jock should have deducted from the $100 the cost of the planter that Digger wrecked.
Jock figured Digger couldn't resist the $100 to buy booze. Why waste $10,000? If he had paid the $10,000, that would have certainly been putting a price on Pamela. She's priceless. At least Jock knew that's what Bobby thought.
Loved this Digger compared to the actor who replaced him. He and Ken Kercheval looked like father and son. Also, the planter he crashed into was only in this episode, just so he could crash into.

Agreed. There was too much of a striking resemblance between David Wayne and Ken Kercheval for it to even be fathomable that Keenan Wynn could have been Digger Barnes.
