In this video ( • Space Engineers | THE ... ) you can see my original frag missile in action. it wasn't very effective, so I made a new frag missile. Enjoy.
‘Frag’ usually implies fragmentation as a result of a large explosive charge. Not driving a chainsaw right into someone’s face. Still, gorgeous effect. I doubt the enemy’d tell the difference.
I'm very proud of the first gravity gun I made that shoots small warheads and the first video I see in my recommended is of a dude one-shotting a big ship XD The missile looks awesome! it just deletes so many blocks! subscribed and liked
@boad, look into container bombs from like 2014 or so. 500 or so explosive components would delete asteroids back then. now it takes like 10k for the same effect
make slightly large arms that reach off of one of the blast doors and add decoys on the end, the spinning decoys will be impossible to hit by autoturrets due to the fact that the direction is changing constantly meaning the turrets will miss and shoot in a ring around the missile. This might also be good to add to a ship to make yourself a "Shield generator" of sorts. I'll try this in my survival world as it might be really effective.
Funnily enough, I actually did this for a prototype MKIV. Never released it though, as to be honest the concept is far too unwieldy to be used in combat. Ripping apart a space station, though...
Reminds me of the "Final Lotus" by Wastedspace. Except that his - ummm... weapon? - prints warheads and slowly spins to spread them out over an area which increases the hit chance; while this missile spreads its destructive load inside the target, to increase the damage when it hits.
the problem with warheads is that there's a huge amount of wastage, as many will miss and/or get shot down. losing a couple of steel plates isn't a huge deal. the other issue is that 3 blast doors can do a lot more than 1 warhead.
the reason this is effective is because while ship speeds are capped at 100m/s, there is no limit on angular velocity. Hence you can have the outer edge of your spinner going at 1000's of m/s and achieve much more devastating impacts with them.
Line the ends of the blocks with advanced rotors, put small blocks on it, detach all rotor blocks on impact with high angular speed, then it's a frag bomb.
Glad you enjoyed it! As far as advancements go, I've reverted back to the static tube to accommodate guided missiles, as the torque tends to mess with the targeting. The spinning frag will still have a purpose in the GXI military, but more as a devestation weapon against immobile targets.
I did something like this years ago, but I had it full of mini beacons, and each side of the beacon had flanged armor. Upon approaching the target it would spin slowly and disconnect the beacons. The targeting systems fire on the beacons, which break easily and the armor splits into fragments, so the target is pelted while the guns are focusing on the beacons, and the main missile can hit the target.
when I play with stanton, I've made it into a bit of a joke to just drop frag missiles on literally everything. cool new toy? fragged. pirate installation? fragged. AIEnabled robot? fragged. giant statue of t posing bender? fragged.
I propose this weapon be named the throngler. I don't know what throngling means, but I am most certain that is exactly what this missile did to those ships.
Do you have a way to release the blocks before impact? You could make it have a setting where it makes a cloud to deal with really small ships or stays together to drill through heavier ships.
Well it seems great, but if you are going to test something... Where are the gatling guns? I made ones one that had decoys and it only succeeds to impact 3-4 times of 10
Stacked rotors also make good decoy machines! Stack some rotors, give it two symetrical arms with decoys and make them spin. Enemy AI Turrets will have no clue where to shoot at!
Now do one where the blocks aren’t spinning and see what happens. Spinning may be a good trick but make disposable munitions be several grids makes them difficult to produce.
Hmm, you might run into a couple of problems with mass. Small grid blast door blocks don't have enough mass behind them to even crumple large grid light armour, so you'll need some mass to back it up.
@@Gxaps also true, bigger is sometimes still better. I wonder if making it a Klang powered engine VS drone guidance would be a viable propulsion option
These things demolish. I destroyed a supposedly unbeatable ship (claim by it's creator in server chat) with one. He was bosting how he's a big bad alpha griefing the moon. Put his 80k ship in the dirt with just one R.I.P. missile. Didn't even cost me 2000 pcu.😂
Horribly. The rotors are simply too squishy and volatile. Hardly maneuverable either. I atually redesigned this from the ground up with a far smaller payload - ~1/3rd of the length, and ditched the spinning, since the velocity from it threw off any kind of tracking script.
If it's moving fast enough, it can tank *most* defences, but it can't do shit against moving targets. I redesigned it to be smaller and more manouverable. I intend to make a video on it soon.
I think all of these are cool stuff but SE need something like energy shields. Which blocks collison damage and partially weapon damage. Just spaming few of these from distance is dumb way to fight. There should be tactic around first taking down the shields with guns THEN ram if you want.
@@Gxaps Why? If you do have some crew-mates (or scripts are allowed) you can spam few of these. Maybe not on offence but on deffence wouldn't they do great job?

Well at this point you’re basically ramming one ship into another. Cool concept, but not very practical or resource efficient. Spinning small grid warheads released a few seconds before impact would be more effective.

the last part of this can be taken 1 of 2 ways

Yup. Explosives are overrated.

thats not a frag missile thats a missile with a drill on top!

I love it. Now pack it with warheads
the question becomes how do you mount this on a missile boat though
Will it blend? Yes, yes it did.
Klang has entered the chat
Hmm a drill that shatters
now replace those blast doors with the indestructible drills or wheels
I tried them out; wheels just bounce off unless they have significant mass behind them, and drills don't do much extra
the frag system also causes the turrets to have problems when aiming at it
Seems a lot cheaper than a smac round. I'll give it a go
Is it in the workshop?
I second this (a year later 😅)
Do you have a way to release the blocks before impact? You could make it have a setting where it makes a cloud to deal with really small ships or stays together to drill through heavier ships.
You can mix a warhead in amongst the rotors to pre detonate it

The individual frags kinda just penetrate stuff anyway
Stacked rotors also make good decoy machines! Stack some rotors, give it two symetrical arms with decoys and make them spin. Enemy AI Turrets will have no clue where to shoot at!
Dang... I developed a straight missile with no rotation and now I feel like slapping myself for not realizing the drill's potential.
Why is it when I see ships I expect them to start sinking........
sick build!
i couldnt help but make "thats what she said" jokes to some of these reply's lol
If the blocks themselves are also on rotors or hinges maybe you could bind a "detach rotor heads" button to make a proper frag?
That's how I made mine, and yes, it works.
Now do one where the blocks aren’t spinning and see what happens. Spinning may be a good trick but make disposable munitions be several grids makes them difficult to produce.
I've done it without spinning, and it simply does not spread out, instead punching a tube through the ship rather than chopping it in half.
It's in the video he linked in the description. It's an older variant he used against a 12 mil ship.
@@Gxaps any way to do a last minute turn on of all rotors before it hits? To keep mobility until ready to damage
@@Raven5431 you can use a sensor with a tight beam to activate a timer set to increase the speed and activate itself

that's still something I'm trying to figure out myself. it'd likely be built by hand and stored in a silo, with the rotors spun up on launch.
