OMG! Ty for saying nutritionists may not know everything! As an inpatient, I started getting hungry, & kept making appts with the nutritionist to ask for more food! She allowed me one more apple per day 😤 I said I'm making loads of cups of tea in the evening cos my tummy is empty! That's old behavior & I want help to stop that! I'm not sleeping cos my tummy is empty. She said ’you're not hungry in the night you're bored’ 🤔🤔

Lily Rosie My heart goes out to you. I’m so proud of you for honoring your body. That sounds like a prison and it sounds like you know what you need to do. If possible, would you be able to leave your treatment facility and find a good therapist to keep you accountable? I’m so sorry you’re having to deal with unhelpful people in a place that should be doing the opposite. What a joke!

Great video!! I am starting to listen to my body so much more since listening to your videos and reading your books and I truly do believe that when I eat something the Ed tells me I shouldn't, that my body knows better and I must have eaten it for a reason. The reason being, MY BODY NEEDS IT!!!

Brillian! Thank you so much. I already knew this but the people and friends I talk to tend to always bring this up when I tell them about my eating disorder. And then they don't believe me when I say that sugar addiction etc has not been proven by science. Thank you for pointing out that it all comes down to fear of weight gain.

Ahhh yes this food addiction "argument" is so annoying and comes up every time when people are suspicious of unrestricted eating! Another thing that helped me understand and debunk this theory was Christy Harrison's Food Psych podcast episode n.80 talking to Marci Evans about "food addiction". Highly recommend!!

That was the "klick"-moment for me, when I realised: atm I am ending up in hospital, I have chest pains, there could be so much wrong with me that I don't even know about. If I'm gonna continue this way who knows what'll happen. But if my body can get me through recovery one last time and the only "scary" thing that's gonna happen is weight gain then wtf am I doing. Then I heard you ask: Recovery yes or no? So: Yes.

In the US, I find that there are so many different types & flavours of peanut butter which I adore. Nothing here in the U.K., what so ever, although it has improved. Not a crisp fan though. I can certainly relate to Jade's issues here. Alison (from the UK, obviously).

But what about eating when you don’t feel like your body is asking for food? 😔 yesterday I had a big slice of chocolate cake. I was so full after, but I still had another because it tasted so good. I felt sick and stuffed after and so guilty x

    • @saarki8421

Perhaps you didn't have a physical hunger cue, but you did have a mental one: you ate one, your brain signalled to you it wanted more.
I'm sorry you felt guilty afterwards, but that guilt is proof that you NOT eating a second serving would have been in line with your ED's values/rules. When you have an ED, guilt is actually a sign of you fighting and doing recovery by breaking ED rules. By comparison: if my mum would have eaten a second slice just because she fancied it, she would just go "pfiew, I'm really full after that second slice" ... the end! No guilt or regret.
      You did the right thing.

Saar Ki thank you so much for that ☺️ I’m going to save your answer so I can keep referring to it when I experience that guilt again (I do frequently). I really appreciate you taking the time to respond.

@@Sophie-bj1nf Expect the guilt to come. Because it will not just go away, it will take time. Like Tabitha says: expect for it to be there, say "hey, there's the guilt again! just as I expected!" and let it sit next to you WHILE you eat.
Keep going and it will get better, but it takes time. Remember: you have rewiring to do!
And, it helped me too to realise that the shitty feelings (guilt, anxiety, fear...) are actually the good guys, because they're an indication of me making my ED squirm.
And to expect the guilt to come, can also help to make you feel stronger to face the guilt when it actually does pop up, because you are ready and prepared for it to come, it can't surprise you or attack you from behind anymore. 💪

on the lower-right portion of the video, click the small gear icon (next to "cc") and then click "playback speed." you can set it to be 0.25, 0.5, or 0.75 of the original speed, so it plays more slowly!

I am not at all a medical professional, but I do know there are (genetically determined) medical conditions that cause metabolism malfunctions that, in return, can lead to "overweight".

people that have gained weight past their set point, clearly don’t have a good relationship with food and don’t know how to listen to their body. for example many people restrict food from their lives and end up binge eating. this is an eating disorder

Absolutely, storing energy due to the body thinking there might be a 'famine'. Agree. But in evolutionary history we didn't eat endless amounts of donuts, sugary cereal, chocolate, chips, pizza, which is sort of what you say, that any food in any amount is okay. In our history we would have eaten an abundance of satiating, whole foods like potatoes, vegetables, even meat.

    • @tanjao.4312

Ah yes I often hear this argument that our bodies don't function naturally because the food we eat is also not "natural" anymore. First of all - what is even natural? Junk food also consists of protein, fat and carbs just as "natural" or unprocessed foods. But it's much easier to digest because of the processing - which might be good because it makes it easier for our bodies to work with the incoming energy. Also I experienced the unbelievable: after allowing myself to have as much as I want of the "unhealthy" foods I actually started craving other things, too! Like fruits and vegetables.

Ababy I am SO sick of the bullshit “whole food” dieters pumping that shit. Dude, I’m going to be blunt with you. I was eating 3000 calories a day of exactly that, complete whole food products with no processed anything, and IT WRECKED my body. I had to go to the hospital twice in one month because of it. I’m now eating what I want and my body has never, EVER been in such good shape. You may need to seek your own help...
