The Green Book: Then and Now

- From 1936 until 1966 The Green Book was published annually as a guide to safe places for black people to travel, dine, and recreate. There are several locations still around in Maryland and some sites still in use. We visited a few of those locations and brought history to light.

Many black women paid for their homes with the funds that gracious, kind AA gave them for their hospitality, the meals were always hot, homes well kept, beds fresh sheets ironed, it was 5*. They had entrtainment and activities if you had children . More of these homes should be on the NHR.

Mr Green was a progressive capitalist that used wisdom to navigate a changing society.
The Green Book is unique American history. Thanks for sharing this.
Most of this country has been wonderful.
Through it All we are blessed people.
As a Pentecostal Christian I witnessed intolerance, poverty, hate & bigotry.
Things did Change for the better in time.
We are One Race, consisting of many ethnicities living in one country with many divers traditions & stories.
Unity is priceless.
History is important.
If people would let it be just that.. history.
But there is soooo much $$$ in selling hate & division.
Most Americans of every ethnicity want a good life for themselves, their family & community.
Most desire peace, prosperity & security.
But there are forces, in & out of this country, that work day & night to distract, divide & destroy what we have worked so hard to gain.
So don't let them.
Love God, love the higher moral law that teaches to Love your neighbor as yourself.
We have created the most blessed nation, lifting billions out of poverty & also blocking many along the way to our shame.
The Truth is , as bad as people can be in this land, you can be as GOOD as possible, and give of your blessings.
We have sacrificed much to help so many others around the world.
From the crosses on the Cliff's in Normandy to the crosses on so many islands in the Pacific. And when this country defeated Germany & Japan with the help of other nations , we paid for their reconstruction. Those that once were enemy's, became Allie's.
Just as we fought the ugly sin of slavery, the discussing sin of racism & we can humble, come together & continue to be the beacon of hope for future generations, we once we're. ...IF we stop, humble & turn from our sin seeking God's law & favor.❤️
We may have had the green book but they will get 15 minutes cites.
Why are the reporters standing like that?
All people addresses printed in the book were kind and loving people.
I guess putting your house or bussiness in a book was a very dangerous move.
I guess GOD was protecting them.

I wasn't sure if this was a history lesson or a commercial for blm, the green book portion was interesting and very educational and I found it gratifying that someone was going threw the effort to document not only the era but also list the sights, the other portion seemed to be blm pandering that hinged on modern day self segregation. One thumb 👍 for the educational portion, two thumbs down 👎👎 for trying to covertly resurrect segregation of a different sort.
@xxxPassiexxx Black prosperity will go a long way toward ending inequality, and black owned businesses are needed to build that prosperity. It is not racist for blacks support their own businesses. They need to do this to generate wealth. It's no different than supporting your own local businesses instead of national chains.
When white people begin to see blacks as hard working and prosperous, the negative stereotypes, the fear, and the prejudice will begin to dissipate.
I was born in 1958 and I remember the Negro Green Book and Travel Guide. It has nothing to do with BLM, it's about being and getting good service while you're vacationing and spending your money where you're appreciated. Why spend your money where you're not welcome. It was the law of the Jim Crow South: Blacks weren't allowed any public accommodations: parks, pools, hotels, hospitals, restuarants,etc,...ZILCH, NADA. You had to have been there done that to feel the magnitude and effects of such restrictions, it equals apartheid in South Africa.
Many Blacks weren't down with integration and desegregation, segregation was fine with me as a kid, if you didn't want me around you I was fine with that. Blacks had their own thriving economic communities: hospitals, restaurants, hotels, parks, pools,churches,drs,lawyers, nurses, we'd built everything already and were great craftsmen etc,...
@xxxPassiexxx Black's (we) should spend with our own, black Nationalism, develop our own economic communities. I was born in 1958 I remember the last vestiges of segregation.
Black's had stronger family units doing segregation.
