The Chinese are NOT stupid. They are on a steep learning curve. They are fixing quality issues. They will rationalise makes and models. Ride quality is improving. For 4WD they will get it right, low-hanging gubbins will get tucked away, and capability, angles, traction, etc. will improve. This will happen faster than when the Japanese entered the market, followed by the Koreans. They are a huge problem for the EU and the American manufacturers. The Japanese and the Koreans are watching VERY closely.

I was going to call you delusional but that’s a bit rude and not really correct. Firstly I lived in China for over 20 years running a smallish shoe company, so I feel well qualified to talk about the Chinese. Firstly, every company or small business is majority owned by the Chinese Communist Party. That means you can’t make changes without their authority and you must do what they say. Chinese business is famous for making things that look great initially, but later turn out to be way less than that. The CCP basically encourages you to lie. Whatever it takes to sell. Issues that slow sales are easily and quickly ‘fixed’ with a word from the party. Certainly they are not stupid, they are cunning and have turned lying into an Olympic sport. You will find that they don’t make things to last, just to sell. If you’re that keen on supporting the CCP go and live there for a few months! Anyway you view is standard by most westerners, and that’s what they rely on to succeed!

I took Cannon Alpha Ultra Hybrid for a test drive last week, and it was brilliant. I've seen just about every UA-cam video available and wanted to find out for myself. All the alarms and beeps and correcting my steering when trying to change lanes was the main reason i got rid of my cannon, also had to wait a silly amount of time to get parts/panels replaced after small bump. Would still have it if it wasnt for those massive frustrations. Those problems taken away it was a great car, but ive been well put off for now.
Putting on your indicator when changing lanes interrupts the lane keep assist then comes back on when you are settled in the new lane. Mine does, and yes, I do indicate when changing lanes, do you?
I bought a Tank 500 Ultra recently. Great looking car, very comfortable, has loads of features, great value for money and handles well on the road. Not been off road yet but will soon. Some recent articles highlight the "overzealous" safety protocols and that would have to be the understatement of the century. This car will just not shutup. Ludicrous and I have placed black tape across the cabin monitoring camera, disabling this feature, although you get a failure warning every time you start the car. - "You are exceeding the speed limit". Better to call the first issue "rev hang" than calling it "sticky throttle". A vehicle's throttle actually sticking is a serious defect and cause for alarm. What's happening instead is the throttle mapping takes a while to reduce after taking your foot off of the accelerator, since that on/off application by your foot happens a lot and would make for a very jerky driving experience, plus increase fuel consumption, if the car was to decelerate immediately as you stop pressing the accelerator pedal

Was slightly confused over your interpretation of the 'older V's newer' model, in particular the covered mileage (odometer) of both vehicles. The older (first vehicle) shows roughly 2,100kms and the newer has already done nearly 12,000kms. Would this be down to testing and evaluation of the newer model?
I have petrol ultra tank 300 and I don't have any complaints about any of the safety tech. I have them set on lowest sensitivity and they work fine. I actually like them, some pwopel switch them off but I haven't. On long hwy driving it steers around corners, it speeds up and slows down behind cars with cruise control. Think it's awesome. Oh I have switched it off on dirt roads now I think about it. I don't think any lane keep assist tech would work on a dirt road that doesn't have lane markings. In all of that, I wouldn't say no to a software upgrade that improves upon it.
Imagine if they just got rid of all the fancy tech... Surely there is a market for a bare bones model with just Aircon , auto trans, stereo , electric windows , and airbags. All button functionality. No menu screen , sensors, HUD lane warning etc etc..... Surely they could shave $5 to $7K off an already attractive price...
Now the biggest issue left is the missing Hi4-T drive train across all range! Tank 300, 500, cannon alpha...Consider GWM is rolling out the next Gen Hi4-Z with a ridiculous 863hp/1200Nm! Yes I got those numbers right. It catapults the 3-ton fat ass from 0 to 100 in less than 5 seconds.
Called my local dealer. Of course they have no idea about this update. GWM seems to tell everything to everyone else except their dealers. Honestly they always know last… if at all. Did they tell you Paul when they would roll out the update for the existing victims… I mean customers?
The dealers would have had an information note sent to them, they probably just didn't distribute down to their sales people, or they just didn't read it.
A skilled constant driver doesnt need alarms. An office worker with limited experience only getting in for a trip home does. Alarms need a on /off switch
Truth is we do not need any of this crap added to these Vehicles. If you feel you need to be monitored by your vehicle, then maybe you should not be behind the wheel of a Vehicle. Many of us have driven huge Km’s over the years in various conditions and never needed a computer to guide and monitor us. Obviously, there will be those that disagree and truely believe in this Technology. I don’t, I don’t want it in any of my Vehicles or motor bikes. In time this information on monitoring the Driver may influence your ability to get insurance ect. My personal belief is I Do Not Trust The Government and I do not wish to loose my Autonomy in controlling my vehicles ( never claimed insurance or had an accident)
I'd like to know what Apple car play and Android auto looks like when you turn the screen. Do the maps become full screen or stay half screen like the RAM. RAM has the most annoying feature of not using the full screen on Android Auto.
Personally I think regulators should force carmakers to make it impossible to switch the nanny systems off. I know this will be unpopular but it's the only way manufacturers will be forced to perfect the software in the systems. As things stand we're paying dearly for stuff we don't use. There's little incentive for carmakers to improve the systems because they know we'll switch it off.
I always wonder if that black line on the outer lane is messing with the lane keeping systems as I haven’t seen a single review that nails that outer lane. I don’t watch every single review though.
The thing that puts me off these new Utes is the Chinese ones don’t really have a great resale value or has the car industry just seam to think the new cars and utes we buy are just throw away vehicles after 6-8 yrs after warranty has run out . Just my opinion. We are meant to be greener for our environment. Not thinking it’s very green when these are scrapped
I've not been keen on GWM so far. They have generally been cheap junk and behaved like cheap junk. However, If a company is willing to listen and learn that will change quickly. I remember when Korean cars were utter junk but they listened and improved them to the point where they are now some of the better ones on sale. I'm still not overly impressed by GWM's right now because they still feel like cheap junk but if they are going to improve them they may well end up being good at some point. When they get there I'll consider one.
Seems to have changed quickly. Test drove a Tank 500, suitably impressed! Quality of fit out as good as my Touareg, and that’s supposed to be the VW flagship (and sister car, made in the same factory as the Q7 and Cayenne). Those that have ripped it apart to check for quality seemed happy with its build.
That's what I love about Chinese auto manufacturers. They listen ! I've owned multiple Toyotas and really like them. But each one has had an issue that could have been solved easily. But Toyota refuses to address the issues and uses the same design year after year. China taking over the auto industry is good for the consumer. Even if you chose not to own a Chinese car, the fact that they are producing top cars that match what people want will make legacy auto makers listen more to what people want, and lower their profit margins. More power to China and their factories
These are pretty fundamental issues that impacted the safety of the vehicles already sold. It’s great that they are now fixed, but consumers should be frightened that their own vehicle development testing didn’t pick these issues up. This fact is glossed over in your review. We keep seeing this pattern from Chinese vehicle manufacturers where they focus on the parts of the vehicle development that maximise the dealership sales appeal (aesthetics and specs) and seem to think that the fundamentals of the vehicle development program are nice to haves. It reminds me of Jeeps approach to quality control, they sell you the sizzle when you want the steak. I hope they learn how to perform proper vehicle development testing before the consumer trust is broken and current owners can’t resell their massively depreciated vehicles in the second hand market to some poor sap.
Now can you get them to fix the ACC on the Haval H6? Using cruise control is downright dangerous and because I am a nobody, the service department just shrugs their shoulders.
Absolutely. Buy our resources for minimal prices, sell them back to us as manufactured goods at prices designed to force out other manufacturers. Then dominate our market and jack up prices with no competition.
@ You misunderstood I think. They are currently very cheap. This puts pressure on other manufacturers to compete. Which short term is good for prices. However Chinese companies are government backed. They will maintain any advantage they need to dominate a marketplace just as they have done for every other product category they have competed in. Once they drive all serious competitors out of the market, they have a monopoly and will jack their prices up. Australia is already dependent on Chinese imports for the vast majority of all our products. This also handicaps any diplomatic or political influence we may have with them.
@@tinkertable1977which car manufacturers aren’t government-backed? GM and Chrysler were bailed out in the GFC, the US government has put in place 100% tariffs on Chinese cars to keep them out of the country and protect the local manufacturers (to the detriment of American car buyers). Toyota is the most indebted company in the world, I expect a large share of their bonds are held by Japanese government entities.
@ There’s a difference between protecting a home industry and having a goal of international domination. The Chinese government doesn’t have to answer to voters. They are ruthless in business and in everything else.
Your videos are awesome bru, BUT the only frustration is that when you drive you never put the camera in such position to make us feel like we inside and we seeing the front interior whilst we see the windscreen, you ALWAYS just show You ONLY, so please fix this, we want to feel we driving or like we in the backseat(yes exactly like this)
That throttle issue should have been reported to the Authorities in Australia. Are these things supposed to meet ADR regulations, or is that not in play these days. Who test this vehicles before approval. It has shades of a Boeing issue. Clearly not fit for purpose at time of release.
From my experience of my robotic company’s Japanese competitors, the largest Japanese companies can be very arrogant. Hence Toyota taking years to update models, lobbying against emission regulations as opposed to innovating to achieve them. And hence they become sitting targets for more nimble, more market and customer focused international competitors. Remember Sharp? Toshiba? Even Sony is being outplayed by the Koreans.
I have nightmares about cars with lane assistance, something that could steer you to your death if it glitches . What happened to just a beep if it’s active.
I will never own a Chinese manufactured vehicle. I don't care if they gave them away. This is exactly what is wrong in the world. Buying on price, regardless of quality, reliability, dealer support or resale. Call me names if you like, I just don't care.
Quality and reliability looks to be decent with the latest Chinese models. And they’re backing the reliability with 7 year warranties, which is more than can be said for Toyota.
To the ones bagging the product on here…how quickly did your vehicles manufacturer respond to any of your gripes? My 2020 Touareg still has issues ide complained about from new and bluntly they don’t give a damn. Yup I don’t think the Chinese are the last word in qaulity…yet. But remember only a few years ago we scoffed at the Koreans, and years before that the Japanese. The Chinese not maybe, but will overtake the others…it’s just time and they are quick learners (or imitators if you look at it that way)
The chinese have mazdas toyotas kias Hyundai's and everything else in pieces in there engineering departments they are good at copying and letting everyone else pay for the research and design advances...
‘Sticky throttle’, should this be a safety recall campaign for all affected vehicles? I can’t believe the Australian government are actually letting these Chinese built death traps into our country and on our roads.. should be ashamed. Keep up the good work, Paul.
I don't get why you are upset at the lane keep assist doing what it's intended to do. If you wish to go over the line, especially into where other traffic would possibly be, you should use your indicators and there will be no alarm. This is kinda implying that you like to switch lanes without indicating. Seem rather nitpicking to me.
Talk to me in 10 years when these crapy cars have been exposed to the harsh Australian environment and driving conditions. That's if they are still around to compare. It's easy judging new cars, the proof will be in the pudding. I can't help reflecting on past EL CHEAPO cars such as the Hyundai Excel and the Kia Carnival needing multiple changes of engines and gearboxes. But hey they were cheap.
These issues should not have been there when they launched it in the first place. That acceleration issue is downright dangerous. That speaks a lot about the fundamentals of GWM. We are not Guinea pigs in a lab. It’s good that they acknowledge .. still I would not trust such bad first copy engineering

At least Toyota holds it resale value, not like Chinese junk, rust issues.Good luck after 5 years.
@@praneelchandra9963I take it you’re from India?
I hope the throttle response fixes aren't exclusive to the Cannon. I have a Tank 500 and it has tons of power but the way it's delivered is strange.
Hey Paul, is there any word if this will be a software update throughout the range?
I agree the Tank 300 HEV ultra needs to go to version 2 since 2023 asap 😅
I wonder if the diesel models will get an update for the throttle response...
@@shazbot2357 good for you. software improvements all cars can do with. The HEV is high level tech 🤪 next to your petrol 😜
Just read online there's an update for the tank 300 also. :)
Sounds like you want the Grenadier. Shame it’s nearly 30% more expensive…
when will the updates be available for tank500 2024?
So if I actually go and buy a new car now ,either model , all these corrections will be done
Hi Paul, interested to know, do you find the Chinese brands have more of these types of issues than brands from other countries, especially Japan?
My question is how do you tell if you are the new one with the updates ?
Check with your dealership
I would think to pull down room the top on your screen and see if there's the option to turn off the lane keep assist
Well done GWM. I was interested until the BYD Shark came along but this is great service.
Yes they need to ship the Hi4-T to oz
A Cannon Alpha with that much power and torque would be ridiculous and downright dangerous.
Called my local dealer. Of course they have no idea about this update. GWM seems to tell everything to everyone else except their dealers. Honestly they always know last… if at all.
Did they tell you Paul when they would roll out the update for the existing victims… I mean customers?
The dealers would have had an information note sent to them, they probably just didn't distribute down to their sales people, or they just didn't read it.
tell them to fix the cruise control slow response , not kicking down when going up hill
A skilled constant driver doesnt need alarms. An office worker with limited experience only getting in for a trip home does. Alarms need a on /off switch
When are you going to do the suv drag race?
Your on my Tank300 HEV does 6.6sec in launch control not bad 😂
How about the heater when you got it on the same temperature both sides and one side is warm and the left side is blowing cold. It’s not right.
How much R&D did they do over many years, as others had to, to get to this point ? Is all the IP and underlying details and technologies their own ?
Good idea having someome who is not verticaly challenged test these cars .😊
Will they also update tank 300
Hopefully GWM can fix some minor issues with h6 hev
What about cover for the back of vehicle eg electric/manual
I've not been keen on GWM so far. They have generally been cheap junk and behaved like cheap junk.
However,
If a company is willing to listen and learn that will change quickly.
Yes give the cars to Paul to test ❤
Perhaps don't buy a Chinese vehicle if that uncomfortable with Chinese product
Don’t all car manufacturers have issues with most early batches? Isn’t that why they say never buy the first version of a new model range?
Now can you get them to fix the ACC on the Haval H6? Using cruise control is downright dangerous and because I am a nobody, the service department just shrugs their shoulders.
China has played australians like a violin.....
Absolutely. Buy our resources for minimal prices, sell them back to us as manufactured goods at prices designed to force out other manufacturers. Then dominate our market and jack up prices with no competition.
@@tinkertable1977 You cannot say a 60k ute is "jacking up prices" when I can tell you probably like toyotas.
Your videos are awesome bru, BUT the only frustration is that when you drive you never put the camera in such position to make us feel like we inside and we seeing the front interior whilst we see the windscreen, you ALWAYS just show You ONLY, so please fix this, we want to feel we driving or like we in the backseat(yes exactly like this)
Good point, I’ll remember that for recording my Porsche lap around Australia… cheers!
Will GWM bring out a full EV Tank 300?
That throttle issue should have been reported to the Authorities in Australia. Are these things supposed to meet ADR regulations, or is that not in play these days. Who test this vehicles before approval. It has shades of a Boeing issue.
Clearly not fit for purpose at time of release.
LOVE TO SEE A TEN YEAR OLD GWM
Iv seen a fair few of them around on Melbourne roads actually same with the older ldv's
Go to China, we have them everywhere
Imagine if toyota listened.... nah, will never happen.
I drive a Holden SS Ute and love the fuckin thing. I’m not meant for this comment section 😂
mass respect GWM
The Chinese not maybe, but will overtake the others…it’s just time and they are quick learners (or imitators if you look at it that way)
Meh rather not be a testing field for vehicles that need refinement
The chinese have mazdas toyotas kias Hyundai's and everything else in pieces in there engineering departments they are good at copying and letting everyone else pay for the research and design advances...
Nice with modern cars, they can update on the fly with out going to the local dealer
I thought the silly technology was a requirement of Australia ancap testing? If dont have dont get 5 stars?
‘Sticky throttle’, should this be a safety recall campaign for all affected vehicles?
I can’t believe the Australian government are actually letting these Chinese built death traps into our country and on our roads.. should be ashamed.
Keep up the good work, Paul.
Any data to back that up, that Chinese cars have more accidents on a per-vehicle basis?
I don't get why you are upset at the lane keep assist doing what it's intended to do. If you wish to go over the line, especially into where other traffic would possibly be, you should use your indicators and there will be no alarm. This is kinda implying that you like to switch lanes without indicating.
Seem rather nitpicking to me.
Australia loves china ... even the cars.
If only Volkswagen can listen to customers and fix the Amarok with all it's intrusive useless safety pings, alarms and displays
But how does a car get approved for sale when it continues to accelerate after releasing the accelerator pedal?
Just what I want, all of my “driving data” (pfft yeah right) being handed to the CCP, nah I’ll pass on any of these Chinese brands, thanks.
😂all your data has been handed to USA since you use google whatever made in USA
How about the 'chrome' overload??
It’s designed so everyone can see your a peasant, wear that badge loud and proud 😊
That sticky accelerator WTF...shouldn't even be on the road. How is that even legal?
Do u mean cybertruck?
Albenese loves the Chinese 😊 that’s how. Climate change is more of a safety concern not sticky accelerators.

It wasn’t the throttle physically sticking it was just still applying power after it’s released almost like a throttle hang which is fairly common if you’re used to early e throttle cars
We don't care about the 5 star ANCAP. Just allow all the safety settings to not come on by default and we will buy the Chinese cars. Simple
Screen glare, I drove one and it bothered me.
