I repatriated to SA from the UK. My friends back in the UK almost fainted with shock. I have to say it’s turned into a living nightmare, though I have to add I had no infrastructure or support system. In fact my Zim husband left me, to stay in the UK, also when the COVID thing came. But, in spite of the huge drama and struggle to adjust, I have never doubted (only, as you say, I was in the UK almost two decades, when I miss the UK, especially London) my decision. I just feel “home”. And it feels grounded. Even in the UK I was (the only white in my clique) part of the African expat community. I think some people just have Africa in their hearts. I have a mostly African fb community page and I’m trying to establish an African community support (because I was in the African community, I have to admit my African heart is wider now than just SA) I’m currently breaking my mind to see how I can turn that into a business.

The grey cold skies used to depress me too, when I lived in Redland, Bristol. You don't see the sun for months. And then the incessant rain. Umbrella all the time. Crazy weather! The meat and fruit don't taste great either. It's the sun that makes food taste good. Zim food tastes really great 👌
Sheila Gotora: You are right, the fruits and food here taste fake and not very palatable. You can’t even find any nice tasting mangoes in the supermarkets, you have to go elsewhere for these.
Some of us saw this coming a long time ago, packed our bags never to return, 2008 to be precise. The best desicion i ever made, hands down. Plus i always wanted to be part of the change that was/ is coming to africa. Read the writing on the wall, europe and north america are the past. Africa is the future. Besides, some of the poverty and dejection i saw in parts of U. K. Can only be described as fourth world and not even comparable to africa. Welcome home, boys and girls and be prepared to receive your blessings.
Brilliant, this was needed thank you for popping up in my recommendations. For me l came here when l was 10 years and lm now 26 kinda used to the hectic lonely lifestyle but from me memory my life as a child in Zimbabwe was 100% better. Life is too short to be miserable, getting by and wasting time no feeling alive.
That was a brave decision if I can imagine. I am a postgrad accounting student and when I saw the demand for young CA's from Southern Africa being so dramatic in the UK. My dream was to qualify and relocate that side just to make some serious P's cah the numbers were on footballers salary. 😂
I was raised in UK and left back to South Africa for similar reasons. You're smart woman and figured out what most will realise when it's too late. Rather build where you are than procrastinate in a temporary country. Alot of people think "I'll save X amount then go back home" and never do. You need to learn how to survive in the environment you wish to be in. People saying they'll go back to Zim in 5 years are lying to themselves because in 5 years they still didn't learn what they needed to learn to survive in Zim. All the best.
A massive appreciation to your sentiments! I totally understand you on all the points you raised, it does get lonely at times when home is a 20+ hour flight away. And hack, bringing in those COVID tests into the mix makes it an even more exhausting thought. Wishing you all the best with the journey you are now on. It only gets better! Love and blessings.

Hey great message Sharlene. I think there's a lot of us in this space if trying to figure out the transition back home. Thanks for the positive message. Maybe you've already considered this but just wanted to point out that you have the exact profile of someone ppl would trust to help them with their own transition back home. This was so well explained, we all love Africa, the goal is honestly to be at home with all your loved ones❤❤ However everyone is now everywhere, and one day we will talk about the traumas of growing up without your parents because they are in the UK, or having to leave your family in order to be able to provide for them, For most people they honestly have no other choice, its either be far from home, or go home and starve. I am however happy for those who have the option to be home with their family.
I know a lot of single women who have bought houses in London and most of those l know are in the Health industry. Some have up to two to 3 properties. I m following you soon
Thank you for sharing this. I've entertained the idea to move overseas but when I did my maths it just didn't add up financially. I live on $1600 in SA, with a family of 4... I'd live on $4000 if I moved overseas. I'm an engineer. I could earn a good amount but if I'm not employed that's a lot of money to lose every month. It could even be way more! I also realise I'd only save about $1000... If I factor in travelling and emergencies... It's gone. 1 year savings is just 3months unemployed while. Here if I work for a year, I have enough for 18 months unemployed... And I can hustle also!
Yes thank you for doing the maths and sharing that's how I look at it. In your own country you can do side hustles and make more as there is less barrier to starting a small business.
Let's hope you will find a place that let's you exercise your expertise and grow. Travelling is indeed great. I want to go live in Japan, and a few countries in Europe, just to learn their methods of doing things, like how did they get to be better than us, economy wise, infrastructure wise, health wise. Then implement it home and grow. Africa as a whole we need to improve our systems and lives, so when people from abroad come back they should be given a chance to show us what they learnt. Good luck on your journey sis
Yess so true , learning from those in developed countries is a good idea so that you bring back that which we don't have in Zimbabwe because there is nothing new under the sun ,it would have been done already . We just need the exposure and thanks for watching my video appreciate it.

@@queenofsheba3978 chimbodzokai askana, 19 years
@ellen chirume : Yeah it’s because of those inconveniences that makes one never to consider going back home. Yes home is the best but there’s no point of going there if you’ll be treated like you don’t belong there.
I understand you. People don’t understand the feeling of being miles away from your entire family.
Right it's not easy being far from home.
Can definitely relate, made my "move" in August 2021 and though it was a step back, it's one of the best decisions I've ever made and I know three years down the line It'll all make perfect sense. Sometimes you have to take a few steps back in order to progress. Thank you so much fot sharing your story Sharlene.
I'm exploring the logistics of transitioning back home, and this video gave me food for thought. I'm an accountant as well, but will be working in other businesses. You should also consider looking into establishing a consultancy service that will link professional services with diaspora entrepreneurs seeking to invest in Zimbabwe. With your business services experience, you will be in good stead to determine the business risks that come with the said investments. Wishing you a speedy monetization 🙏🙏🔥👍👍👍👍👍👍
Ohh had never thought about that it makes sense will definitely consider it,thanks and all the best on your journey too.
I miss home 🥺it's depressing outside here, if you are not strong enough you'll lose yourself, wish to come back home too
Come back home
What an amazing video. It's a great decision that you've made, let's get the channel growing and, all the best.
Yes please that's the goal🙏
I 100% respect your decision!! keep the channel growing and give us a taste of home in your future videos!
We love you Sharlene , I am a Zimbabwean professional living in North America 🇺🇸
all these points you mentioned always keep me on the fence I miss my beautiful country Zimbabwe.
All the best Zimbabwe 🇿🇼 is great a country
I visit home every year , you are so beautiful and talented.
Zimbabwe shall prosper
Ye zim is but it's been long bantu there's no end insight
You have no idea how inspiring your video is. As people we tend to forget that you can survive in Zim especially after gaining that exposure in the diaspora. All the best girl!
We might want to leave home and go to the diaspora, then when we get here people don’t talk about things like the emotional stress we go through, racism,no social life, just work and home….it’s an emotional roller coaster. I’m a Mum of 2, daycare so expensive ,it’s just hectic not having that family support from anagogo, aunties etc so I’m Happy for you for going back home and all the best❤️❤️
I know hey its an emotional rollercoaster but stay strong!
Very true diaspora is so stressful especially when you have kids and daycare so expensive im telling you we cant afford nannies also
Girl tell me about it, it's terrible
@@maslinechachona7500 where are you based? I run an affordable nanny service I too was a parent with young kids years ago and the nursery fees set me down a good £800-1000😭.
@@convictednotcondemned3483 please can you tell us more about the cheap child care option
You’re describing me right now. I want to come back too. I will. Just need to figure out how I’ll juggle life in Zim.
Well done you 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Same here. This Europe idea is blurred
Well articulated. Nothing beats being in the motherland. So much peace of mind plus more.
Wow the message and comments are so soothing.Yes guys come back home we are waiting for you and we love you.Choose peace of mind over anything. And it's very helpful for those who are still thinking of going to those countries. And nothing is better like home.I see a lot US residents African American who are moving to Africa.Africa is big enough Africa is home
Great insights thank you, looking forward to more content.
I last lived in Zim when I was 12 years old but I still miss it dearly. Would love to live in Zim even if it's for 1 year.
Love your ideas and your purpose for leaving the UK. You're right the weather here is.......meh!.....I was born in my beloved Zimbabwe and it is 'Home' for me.........still. I have a family and history in the UK since 1975. BUT I still dream of my home there where I was born and raised. Young people like you inspire me and give me hope that one day my mweya - mudzimu will return and watch all of you flourish and be prosperous and happy!! Bless you!
It was absolutely dangerously hot the other day it was like 27 degrees 28
Hi, Im a South African who also travelled and came home. I always feel sad for Zimbabweans who decide not to go home. Id rather be poor in my home country!
No place feels like home being a first class citizen in your country is great, but I guess sometimes don't have options.
@@sharlenegumbo I totally understand. I wish more African's came home to change Africa for the better. All the best in your new journey!
You cannot compare Zim and SA. If I were a SA or Namibian Citizen I wouldn't bother leaving my home country at all.
@Caroline Starve how when God gave me a mind to create my own opportunities in my own country? I'm teaching my child to fix home before running to beg next door.
@Caroline ❤
Well done Sharlene for choosing your well-being. I can relate to your experience. 2021 busy season left me wondering whether I was a human being or a machine, working 41 hours waya waya no sleep, putting food on the table but then forgetting to eat at all bcoz have to immediately rush back to my desk to fix something that crossed my mind. That's not life!
That life is difficult but we keep trying again maybe we will eventually find something a bit stable
I don't understand... doesn't the boss know a day is only 24 hours, in that time you have to sleep, eat and do other things not just work
@@melmel7011 They understand, & they don't really directly force u to do that, but the workload & deadlines you get will stress you out, even if you try to sleep u will wake up bcoz u know the following day u will be on the hot seat answering questions. If u sleep you get a nightmares 😉 😄

I am really glad that you came back home! Start again! Life is all about learning !
Thanks a lot Ariane, there is a lot of learning and unlearning happening.
I want to like this a million times!!! I’m living in the Uk and I literally agree with everything you have said !!! Thinking of my options for the end of the year but this video could not have come at a better time ! Thank you girl !!!
Good for those who can move back on these very luxurious reasons. I personally CAN'T risk a move back to Zim because my toddler has a life threatening brain disease and I don't believe there are sufficient medical facilities in Zim for a better quality of life for my child - so not for me and yup to each their own!
Yeah I can totally get where you are coming from zim may not have all the medical facilities that you need. The difference is in my situation my decision was solely based on myself and there wasn't much to lose from leaving ,but circumstances differ so what works for each person is the best.
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 don’t regret keep moving forward. Actually thinking of doing the same
I made a decision to go back home even before leaving home. Home is the best no matter how good or better the diaspora is. Kumba ndokuneyesa🔥 Good talk dear!
Yess I definitely agree.
I have been in Canada for almost 4 years and I will tell you I hate it most of the times. It's lonely and depressing most of the times. I really wish to just wake up and go see my family as I wish. I'm greatful for the exposure I get and the friends but it's not the same. The foreigner feeling will never go away and others would never understand. I understand every single thing you just said
Aww thank you, but hey sometimes you will need to work for a bit maybe to support your family but it will be well eventually you will also come back home when things fall in place.
I am in Torono and I'm on the same boat!! I have been here 13 years and it is still depressing! I am thinking of leaving
@@luluw9640 I live in Brantford what if we become friends and visit each other maybe that can help with your loneliness don't leave without buying a house in Zim
I agree with everything in this upload but I especially relate to the workload being in Accounts myself and the part where you encouraged everyone to experience the diaspora before making any decisions. All the best in your endeavors.
I really feel 😪 I also need to go back home.
Aww best of luck and s warm hug to you.
I'm not understanding and am a little confused. So are you white or black

Hi S.G I am at the moment in a similar dilema of deciding about coming back to Uganda and I understand the challenges of yr transition and I think you made the right decision. I don't not know how u feel now but I guess u r now satisfied. Thanks God Bless!
True diaspora life is total isolation bills bills. Am relocating in April to your neighbor to the North.keep us posted on your new journey
The grey cold skies used to depress me too, when I lived in Redland, Bristol. You don't see the sun for months. And then the incessant rain. Umbrella all the time. Crazy weather! The meat and fruit don't taste great either. It's the sun that makes food taste good. Zim food tastes really great 👌
4 seasons in one day ..lol
Sheila Gotora: You are right, the fruits and food here taste fake and not very palatable. You can’t even find any nice tasting mangoes in the supermarkets, you have to go elsewhere for these.
Wandipedza nenyaya flavour 😋, but it’s true..
Congratulations. There's no place like home. Even the ones that don't ever return, they do miss home. It is never the same, trust me.
Just found you, great video so wel put together and all the best for the future
Aww thank you Vanessa 👏
I would really like to connect with like minded people as I’m on a journey to return home! Let’s go do what we do best and half fun in our country
Best comment for me Chris
You said it all girl. Home is Home. Good luck on your future endeavours. I enjoyed listening to your story.
You made a good decision. It's not easy
Educational, informative and mature. Thanks for sharing. Loved it!
L personally believe that Zimbabwe will be better very soon l mean it will be wise if you can go and get your own place while you still can.
Yess that the hope for our country
Only if you vote for CCC
The loss of sense of belonging kills me. It makes it so hard to even fight some obvious obstacles in this foreign land
I know and can understand but hang on
What you saying I can totally identify with. Am experiencing it right now & am hating it. Am also thinking of going back.
I notice that quite a few people are moving back from Europe. I would love to hear from those who moved back from the US or Canada
I absolutely loved this! When I was on secondment, I had a lot of fun but the loneliness was overwhelming and I hated the cold. New subbie!
Thanks Ntao.
Well said!! I don't blame you returning home. Its very expensive here, the weathers crap and people are not happy.
Its true, people here arent happy, so stuck up,
A massive appreciation to your sentiments!

Navigating property markets and business set up etc. That could be a good potential revenue stream for someone with your skillset and knowledge of what standards ppl are looking for.
I just subscribed 🙂
Thank you Sharlene for a very lovely video. Another 🇿🇼🇿🇼 in the house🥳. I just came across your channel, you seem to be a very sensible and focused young lady. Well done for making such a difficult and very important decision to moved back home. Home is where the heart is. I salute you for that. I am your new subbie 🎉🎉and I will be following you to see where life takes you, but I know you will do well. Well done 👍🏽 and let God guide you 🙏🏽
Godbless you dear, I totally agree with you. Cos I live in the Uk . May all your plans goals be successful. Enjoy your country. No place like home!!
Forget about rumors, do what's good for you.
Simple as that.
Thank you Sharlene for sharing. This is very informative.
Fully agree! I’ve been in the UK for 21 years now and I feel that I have acquired enough knowledge in different fields to go back and equip my people. Africa is going to the moon and I wanna be part of the journey.
Ohh my daughter, Shylene. You made a good decision. Home is best. We all miss home too. Very soon we will join you too. Good luckx

Well, I agree with everything you said... you cannot change the weather, the system and life is too short. I would love to move from England 🇬🇧 too... the road traffic accident vs the health care in Zim scares me now that I am a mother.... but we'll done sis
