The take at 6 minutes - Dustin’s 1st fish - was one of the most exciting takes that I have seen in my life - great footage Gareth, and thanks for sharing…the quality of your content is world class - you will be at 100,000 subscribers soon…
UA-cam is doing you a negative. I haven’t seen your videos pop up yet I like each one and watch completely. Then today I was like dam what’s up with NZ.
Hi Gareth, recognised the drive and the scenery. I hear that there is snow on the volcano peaks so it’s time for me to head south and fish the big T for those winter run rainbows on the swing. Some things like wet fly winter fishing learned 50 years ago still call me back. I don’t miss the big #10 rods and the new #6 rods are much easier on my shoulders. Liked that last rainbow you caught! Cheers mate Harera
That fish around the 6minute mark wanted it wanted it. That was a great chase down. Too bad NZ is like 30 hour flight from Pittsburgh. Keep em coming G and keep chucking those big uglies.
Hi Gareth, Absolutely love your content! Always looking forward to the next upload!! Quick question, which fly line do you use for your streamer fishing? Cheers in advance.
12:16 I've never heard anyone say "Singha" like that 😂 it's pretty good beer though, atleast I thought so when in Thailand where it's served everywhere
In the states, generally we look for dark overcast, low ceiling, or low light for the best streamer action. Shadowed cliff side would get my cast for sure. You guys like full sun days there, but now you can experiment and contrast to some of our usual practices on the other side of the world! I’ve heard your fish don’t have natural predators so maybe that changes things! Edit: omg it sounds like I’m speaking for a whole half of the world hahaha I’m not! 😂😂😂
It’s just different in New Zealand. Fresh water fishing is purely sport or recreation for most people. Some people do keep fish and some rivers can cope with that. But a lot of our backcountry fisheries would not exist without catch and release.
I was wondering. To what do you attribute the ridiculous size of NZ trout? Is it genetic, an extraordinarily rich diet, or are these sea run creatures…? Also lack of predation and ideal micro-environment/conditions. All of these factors?
Most of the trout in NZ aren't sea run, but you can get them in some places. I've always put it down to a lack of predators, there's nothing in NZ that eats trout except humans. You'll see the occasional trout have a fight with an Eel but that's about it.
Hey mate, reckon you're able to make a "how to" video of how to fish these suckers? I just bought a bunch and I'm really eager to use them but everything down South is closed for fucking ages. My worry is that when I'm finally able to use them, I'm going to be a bit lost. Do I need split shot? What does it mean to swing it in the current, how should I be stripping my line, how do I set the hook? Do I need a sinking like? Will my 6 weight hunting and fishing combo be adequate? What kind of situations and conditions best suit streamers etc

Try a bangtail t and a pattern
What rod are you using in this video
It's a Primal Raw.
Do you know what weight?
@@chrisd6052 By the look of it there is a butt extention, so a 7 weight I would think, maybe an 8.
Ridiculous streamer eat! Great video
Sick vid as usual! You using a 7 or 8 weight rod?
honest question, i always see people in new Zealand do catch and release. is it regulations that make it that way or just etiquette?

What rod is that?
See above.
So much more fun than bobber fishing! 109% of the time.
Enjoyed :)

There are not huge numbers of fish, but the fish that are there grow big. For obvious reasons, low competition for food.
Such aggressive fish!
Stopped watching @ 8:12, did they ever show the "streamers" in this "streamer" video?
You just missed it.
To anyone who needs to know watch how we mind our shadow the fish see us...
We Miss Nala. How is she?
Like Nirvana said the algorithm is a whore but your vids are the greatest, no fucking bore. Haha three/four cheers in mate sorry
Sometimes your on a streamer, sometimes your on a dry. Guess what ladies the inches are all the same ha
