On the Boox, if you adjust the animation filter timer in the e-ink settings for the kindle app (or any other app) to 1000 or more, you will eliminate the ghosting problem
I have owned the Boox Go Color 7 and have never needed to put the front light on anywhere near the max like you have. This immediately explains the problem, which others also addressed in different ways as well. There are also other enhancements which books provides for text, sharpness, darkness, etc. that are very impressive. If the video is saying that the Kindle device is the best device to read Kindle books, nobody will argue. But the moment you want to read a PDF, ePub, or the vast number of different formats, you don't have an option. That the boox does such an acceptable job with Kindle material speaks for itself. And I love those buttons and the lighter and smaller chassis. That's why I opted for the smaller, cheaper, more flexible device.
What about that glaring dead pixel the colorsoft has that becomes more prominent when you switch it to dark mode at 10:40? Also the uneven yellow at the bottom of the screen? Amazon has much more to do from a hardware standpoint which they seem to refuse to do.
There is a setting called "dark color enhancement" if you turn it up the text gets darker and bolder. It drove me crazy how light it was! You definitely have to have it set as a gesture or find a way to toggle it on and off as it makes everything else look awful.
For the time being, after owning more than 10 Kindles, I am quite glad, that I bought the Kobo libra color instead of waiting for a color Kindle. I think Kindles aren't what they used to be anymore. Expensive, heavy, cumbersome, too locked into the Amazon eco system, not innovative. Side loaded PDFs have no color? Are you kidding me?
Any sideloaded book isn’t supported unless you use their send to kindle feature. It sucks, kindle deletes all my sideloaded books and wants me to use send to kindle, which I don’t want. Amazon made me hate Kindle honestly.
It's frustrating that Amazon cares very little about adding features to the Kindle software and seems to have abandoned the idea of page turn buttons. The Kindle software is so limited in weird annoying ways, but it has one stand-out feature: Perfect seamless integration with the largest ebook retailer. Almost every other e-reader is pretty seriously impaired compared to Kindle because they use different stores or require side-loading. The Book seems like a really cool option since with Android you can just use the Kindle app... but from this video, it doesn't sound like that's as good of an experience as it is on a Kindle device. I wish there was a device that really checked all the boxes, unfortunately Amazon is very unlikely to do anything to improve the app experience on e-paper devices and cut into their own Kindle sales, but they also seem to be unwilling to improve the Kindle OS either. But they remain easiest way to get all the books you might want to read. The whole situation really sucks.
TBH, the first thing I noticed when you showed the Archie comic was how unnatural the colors seemed on the Colorsoft compared to the Boox. I thought the same thing when you were comparing the Colorsoft to the Kobo Libra Colour. The Colorsoft definitely has darker colors, but at the cost of making things look unnatural. It's particularly noticeable to me on the initial image of the cover. On the Kindle, Archie looks sunburnt to me. On the Boox, the "Archie" logo looks weirdly uneven, but the rest of the cover looks better, IMO, than the Kindle.
@@setherisegaming1283 It varies heavily unit to unit. Some are extremely yellowed, while others are almost imperceptible. Still, it's a serious problem they need to address properly. What's unclear though, is what the actual underlying issue is. There was a report that it was caused by the adhesive used in the screen, but if that's the case a software update would make basically no sense. The discoloration is only visible when the light is on though, which is interesting and implies that the problem may be related to how the edge lighting works.
@@Lord_zeelat this point it’s a failed device and it’s pretty embarrassing they want to charge more than their competitors who don’t have these problems. I switched to Boox and don’t think I’ll ever go back to a kindle. Boox is a superior device in almost every way. I will say kindle got the color closer to the original document but it’s not worth the uneven screen.

They did a really good job optimizing the screen and color rendering, it's a shame that so many units have the discoloration that flushes all that work down the toilet. The ones without the problem look way better than other color e-ink screens, but the ones with the problem are... yuck.
