Thanks for sharing this on YT.
First off, I must compliment you on your very clean, smart and minimalistic build. Many of these motorized bikes just get too busy looking, with all their bulky hardware and excessive cables and misc. essential parts required to practically motorize them. Yours is so beautifully and simplistically clean and functional. It looks light and gracefully slim, like it was designed with a motor and not just a bunch of crap bolted on to convert it to motorized.
The two things I love about this is that you did away with a goofy ugly and potentially hazardous chain tensioner. DOES THIS WORK WELL, WITH NO CHAIN DERAILMENT? How often must you adjust for chain stretch?
The second thing I love is the way that all cables and wiring is so neatly tucked away and routed within the frame tubing. WAS THIS A PARTICULARLY DIFFICULT TASK TO FISH THRU TUBING?
The wiring and cabling mess is a drag and necessary evil I have had to deal with. I hate exposed zip ties they are so ugly. Wiring is the thing that has kept my bike from having a rear brake light and better illumination up front. I have been thinking of a way to install some sort of storage battery and have contemplated niCad D size cells inside of the frame tubing somehow. Better yet some type of liPo cells somewhere without bundle of wires in and out of the headlight. I at one point has a old school headlight bike generator but the bracket and tire sidewall generator was too much, just as speedometer and brake cables become just too much stuff.
Third thing that is so nice, is the fact that you did this on a Jesse James Huffy. Once again making for a much more unique build .
Occ chopper builds are so much more common and easier. But the Occ Chopper Schwinn doesnt look nearly as light weight or so airy and smooth custom.
I built my Schwinn OCC motor bike on a whim before I knew about these things where so regularly being done. I shopped bike frames on Craigslist and first bought a Phat beach cruiser frame and it just wasnt practical fit for the motor and had to shop more aware. I saw a JJ advertised and a OCC frame and looking at the pictures in the ads, the Occ looked more do able and more beefy with its unique rear swingarm style tubes and the ultra wide 4+1/2 inch rear tire tipped the decision towards the OCC.
Now I got that outta the way, think maybe try a JJ if I build a second one.
One thing I found out after building one,,, I orig thought it would be a quick dumb novelty and once built would probably move along and not play with it too much. Just a passing toy to get board with. The fact however is once completed, I loved that thing and rode the hell out of it until I completely wore the thing out! My back tire ended up worn thru until one day the tube actually buldged out and a big bubble appeared ! Since then I intend to tear it down and rebuild a new improved version 2 if I ever get around to it. Motor work with reed valve is definately planned improvement!

I thank you very much for the compliments it was a very fun build. The motor mounts allowed me to slide the motor forward or backwards or roll it left or right to be able to get perfect chain alignment and I've had no problem with it coming off. I know what you mean about widing it too much, I love this thing and I'm already on my 2nd Jesse James rear tire. I was so lucky to find an original Chrome JJ bicycle that was in perfect condition to start the project with. I use a small rechargeable bicycle tail light and for the headlight I was going to use a 3S lipo cell from my RC car and use an LED bulb for low draw and mount everything inside the headlight housing with no wires exposed. Thanks again for your compliments.

You are welcome and thank you for your reply too. Yes indeed, these are more fun than most people would imagine. I am on rear tire number four and onto revision number two point five of the bike. I would love to hear more about how you did your front brake. That is a major problem with my bike and another reason I keep others from taking it for a spin! My latest revision of my OCC Schwinn now has a spoiler front fork section with springer suspension. The Springer forks do have tabs for a brake caliper and enough clearance to utilize a rotor. I just haven't found a way to mount a rotor to an ordinary front wheel.... My bike and motor are very worn at this point and it is overdue for complete overhaul. It has become a series of fix or repair out on the trail. Last trip I was riding the Santa Ana River trail and was about 18 miles out when broke a clutch cable.... Managed to get her running by ackward manual hand activation of clutch belcrank on the crankcase and pedaling away down a slight incline. But I ended up screwed when I ran outta gas about mile and a half away from my truck on way back!!!!!!!
It is time for overhaul and rebuild rev.3 and make her all pretty again. Going to add saddle bags for electrical system and route cables internally like yours.

I have the red one, got it in 2010 and had fun with it but I always wanted to put a motor on it.

How did you make the motor mounts

    • @52drj
      @52drj  5 років тому +3

I cut a 4" piece of 1 3/4" roll bar pipe lengthwise for the two half rounds and then used some 1/8" plate, bent and drilled and then welded it all together. It allows me to slide the motor forward and backwards to adjust the chain.

I bought an eBay front rim that was set up for disk brakes and a caliper. Then I welded 2 small tabs onto the fork tube to hold the caliper. A little silver paint on the tabs and you don't even notice them. It works great being able to stop it now.

Quero te dizer: EXISTE UM DEUS QUE PODE PERDOAR SEUS PECADOS.
