You never cease to amaze me with your ability to nail these songs. I thought it was impossible for anyone but Lindsey Buckingham to play Lindsey Buckingham.👍

I struggled for hours with this and thought I was never going to get that bass line but then it just happened. Very useful technique. Great for showing off to your buddies then watching them wrestle with it.

Same. I play a lot of fingerstyle and thought I could pick this up easily. But it took hours of practice. I focused on just the initial ascending portion of the lick until I could finally feel the groove, and then the rest kind of fell into place. But it sure wasn't easy for me.

From an engineering and songwriting perspective, this song is a masterclass on how to write, produce, perform and engineer a tune. This song is utterly perfect in each one of those categories.

I would love to see a "Gypsy" tutorial by Fleetwood Mac. Especially the solo. It's not particularly complex, but I just love your takes on these songs. You notice intricate pieces and pay attention to detail. There are many overdubs in that classic solo at the end of the song, id really love to see what you come up with! Also "Mirage" FM album has been remastered recently, and it's been the anniversary of the single Gypsy in recent days.

3 or 4 years back, one day I was looking for a way to play "I can't tell you why" by Eagles on guitar having only learnt just the basics. Somehow I found your channel and I could play the song with practice. What I mean to say here is, I had no skills, was looking for a not so popular song, somehow I found someone with the same love for the kind of music I love. Here we are at cross-roads again and this time I made sure I subscribed. Keep up the good work sir

You are by far one of my favorite UA-camrs to learn songs from, you always approach the songs with such a note for note and accurate feel attitude that I always hope for. I always get excited when I'm looking for a lesson video and see that Wine Red Les Paul with the green overlaid Beatles text.

Thank you for the lesson! It was definitely tricky to line up the two intro parts but it sounds awesome once you get it. When I listened to the record it sounds like he keeps that 3 note bass pattern going through the chord change, so if you play an E note leading into the F note (the F being the 1st note of the second bar) it sounds awesome if anyone wants to try playing it that way.

From young on I had lessons from great people who taught me a lot of finger style. You remind me very much of my early teachers and I treasure it!
Lindsey Buckingham has always done modified traverse pick patterns. This is another one where you have to plunk along with notes in sequence over and over. Then something clicks and the thumb just decides to bang out the bass line with feeling!
Second tab I’ve bought from you, and it takes both a tab and your vid sessions for me. I plan to make real donations as I can. Much appreciated!

So I sort of have a long story (and apologies in advance) -
I had some musical experience (bit of indian classical stuff) prior to getting into Fleetwood Mac, but it was Rhiannon randomly playing on spotify that was the catalyst for me picking up the guitar in the summer of 2018.
I had no aims of performing - i just wanted to get good with the instrument and play some tunes for my own enjoyment.
This song was real hard with the bass line. So I kinda moved onto other songs (simple chord stuff) until I came back to this song in 2024 and after a week of practice, finally figured out the picking.
I absolutely couldn't have done it without your video (and the treasure that is your channel). Thanks a ton!

I usually try and avoid songs that require finger picking of any kind unless I really, really like the song. (I suck at it) I always just played this one with straight chord rhythm and stayed away from the lick. Then watching this lesson I realized that the method is close enough to how Brown Eyed Girl is played that even I may be able to handle this one. Still working on it but so far, so good. Thanks for your work on here. Your lesson selection is like a print out of my all time favorite tunes.

This I think is my all-time favorite Fleetwood Mac song. I've never seen them live unfortunately, or really watched the videos, but never in my wildest dreams did I imagine Lindsey Buckingham was playing the bass part of this. I always figured it was John McVie, and gave it no further thought.

Absolutely great stuff! I love your videos and anytime I'm looking for a tutorial on a song, I check your channel for it first.
I think it's great that you mention one of my personal favorites, Peter Green in this one. I'm going to have to take you to task though (just kidding) for this one. I hear Danny Kirwan all over this song. Most people don't realize just how much Danny contributed to the lead playing on so many classic Mac tunes, and I seem to remember that Lindsey actually stating, at some point, that Danny's work inspired him for this solo. I could be completely FoS however :-)
You're a great player and a great teacher. Thank you for your time and efforts that you clearly put into each and every one of your videos!

Your only the 2nd person that I've felt so deep within my soul that I just had to compliment on your awesome ability to master your guitar skills! It's as tho you found my song playlist & just started playing them! I tell all of my guitar playing friends, you just have to see this guy play & I'll guarantee you'll be impressed! You & Jim Moran are the soul inspiration for me purchasing ROKU! I had to see ya'll on the big TV & be able to sit on the couch, where it's comfortable to follow on my guitar! I'm a cancer patient, both my older brothers passed away with it at the same age I was diagnosed with it (55). I want to get all the guitar playing I can, & you 2 guys are exactly what I needed! I don't know if your familiar with Jim Moran, he plays a lot of Randy Newman, in fact, he is a personal friend of Randy & transcribed his songbook from piano to guitar! As I said, he & you are about the only 2 people I listen to on UA-cam! I commented on his site a few weeks ago, shortly after that I bought Newman's songbook, it's been a strange turn of events, when I first commented, I had no idea he & Randy had any association! Another crazy thing is I just happened to come across word that Newman was playing in Charlotte, N.C., he's never played here & the article I read said he most likely never will again! I couldn't find anyone that was familiar enough with him (other than "Short People") that would go! I decided I'd go by myself, the man is a genius! I've been doing pretty good with this cancer, but during the week of the concert I began having trouble breathing. My oxygen level fell to 75, I went to my primary Dr. & was rushed into the hospital & missed the concert! I apologize for this comment being this lengthy I had no idea it would, I'm ready to start playing some more of your Beatle songs, love how you do Junk, Every Night, & Mother Natures Son, classic man, also love the way you give McCartney his due respect! By the way, Rolling Stone Mag. has the best article on The Beatles break-up I've ever seen, it's Sep. 3rd 2009 edition, it shows how Paul's influence really kept them together longer than they probably would have! I'll make you a copy of that article if you'd like! I need to figure out how PenPal works anyway, you put a lot of effort in making others like me happy, & I want to start contribulating! To try & sum things up, when I received the songbook in the mail, I saw Jim Moran's name in the forward. We got to talking thru IM on Facebook, a very dear friend of mine booked 2 rooms 1 for Jim & a songwriting friend of his Fred Koller (you can look him up on Wikipedia, he has written for some pretty well-known singers) & 1 room for me! Were meeting in Birmingham Al. for Newmans concert! Can't Wait! Like I said I'll figure out PenPal & be back in touch! Thank-you so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Jesus you are a genius. You should be doing your own video series or something like your own entire for pay guitar lesson website. You should do stuff on ear training. Aside from that do you have any suggestions on how to practice and then play both parts? Am I crazy or is this like a Chet Atkins thing where he plays Yankee Doodle Dandy and Dixie at the same time? I know Lindsey (who is also a genius) talked about his banjo and fingerpicking influences and mentioned Chet! Your explanations are key! Don't stop explaining stuff because that is what makes your lessons SO good. Chet Atkins meets Peter Green equals Lindsey B.

I figured it out in 15 minutes. My trick is that I get the bass line in my head by only playing the bass line. Then I play the bass line while also singing the guitar melody, noting where double stops happen. Then I try doing it for real.
The bass line is what you need internalized. The melody just goes on top. Once you’ve mastered these parts, your brain only thinks about the bass line consciously.

Very nice! I don't know if Lindsey does this, but it would be so amazingly simple to just tune the open 6th string up a little to an 'F and play the 6th string 'open' for the bass note during the 'F' chord part at the beginning, and during other parts. Would be fairly easy to tune it back down for other songs.

@Bill Smith - Dude, you have no idea! Back in the day, you had to pay for lessons - if you were serious - and that may not mean the teacher was inclined to the type of music you were into. Also, all the original protocols of learning (i.e. Mel Bay books etc.. - "Mary Had A Little Lamb" ...) It took me years to get insight into technique. Of course, this was all on spare time, but the bell curve for learning was much steeper then. Gives me appreciation to the classic players who learned that way, but nowadays - it's a no brainer: UA-cam IS guitar learning central !

You learn a couple of difficult LB songs and think you understand the man. Then you come across something like this and realise he's fucking legit insane.

Exactly. I’ve always loved LB and have seen him live 3 times, and watched close-up concert footage. I just figured it was unlearnable-too unique and difficult. After 3 years of guitar lessons, I finally feel able to at least attempt this one. It’s gonna be awhile before I get it though-if ever!

@@brentbryson215 don't give up. This rifff clicked with me after a few hours and once it clicks that's it, doesn't seem hard anymore. It's a really clever riff and feels cool to play!

Awesome tutorial but why do so many teachers teach the bass and the melody seperate. Just teach the song so you can see how they are played together lol

Crom’s balls, Lindsey Buckingham was simultaneous playing the main theme AND the base part? Or was it two different tracks? And what was McVie (the bass player) doing?

Not sure what amp your playing but I can tell it’d got a bass response of 75 hz. Can I recommend the Celestion G12M 25 watt 55hz is the key. They are very rare. They were Jim I Hendrix favorites. Most guitarists don’t ever think of the bass response of their speaker. I started playing in 1964 when bass amps and bass speakers were really modified guitar amps. The Fender dual showman fir example had JBL D130s 15” for guitar but D140s made it a bass amp. Still got your clean highs and midi but now your low strings rang out better. I played around with the so callled bass soeakers back then, for example the Acoustic 405 transducer was a guitar/bass cabinet with 2 banshee style horns and 4 aluminum coned G12M 16 ohm 25 watt 55hz speakers. That’s what I play through today. I removed the speakers from a acoustic 405 transducer I found a guy was selling for 100 bucks. Wow. The speakers usually sell for 260.00 ish usd ea. My guy had no idea what that cabinet was all about. Anyway. If you ever run into a pair or a quad, remember they are low wattage so for a 50 watt amp you need two. With gain low they are sweet sounding and they start to break up early for a crunchy blues tone more gain gives you that coveted BROEN SOUND. Anyway just thought I’d mention it. Nice Les Paul but to my ear in that nicely played riff your low strings are working real hard to be noticed. This is just my opinion and might not be right for you. Thanks for this video. Nice job.
