M3E Lacks Real White Balance Control - Auto White Balance Doesn't Work

  • Today we're following up on a video we did a few weeks ago about the Mavic 3 Enterprise white balance. The M3E lacks real white balance control. It's just not there. On a cool color temp day, the M3E fails to warm our ortho images. And on warm color temp days (sunny days) it fails to cool things a bit. Honestly I wonder if there's any kind of white balance at all.
    The M3E is a great mapping and modeling platform. It lacks a few basic features that would make it great all around, and I really hope DJI addresses these issues.

    I have seen posts around the "Forums" discussing this issue. The general consensus is that if your "Auto-white balance" is having issues, it may need a trip back to DJI. My personal experience is that this drone does an excellent job with respect to consistency both in color balance and auto exposure. (Video and stills.) However, when you compare overall features vs cost, the Phantom 4 pro v2 wins. I miss the extra flight time, but the price difference buys a whole lot of batteries. And if you can find an old "Smart controller" you have an awesome set-up. IMO-FWIW🤣 Cheers!

      We're definitely experiencing some issues with our orthos for white balance. Was just out this morning flying a regular route, so I'll be checking results against the flight 2 weeks ago. With the weirdness I've had with WB, maybe it needs a trip back to DJI.

      The sad reality is that this could easily be fixed with a simple firmware update. Many of the missing video features could be implemented, and at that price point very well should be. I couldn't sit around and wait for DJI to finish their firmware, and reluctantly sold this otherwise awesome drone. BTW, thanks for all the great content you contribute to the community. Sure. We'll be out flying again this week, I'll try and remember to do a screen recording.

    It’s marketing to force customers to buy their other drones for basic photography. I do think there may be auto white balancing going on. A camera is never as good as the human eye and can only calibrate its white balance if it sees white, grey, or black in each frame.
    You mentioned theowing them in Lightroom first which sounds practical but in my experience with Maps Made Easy. It won’t touch a photo that comes out of Lightroom. It wants straight from DJI camera files. It knows 😢 so you become stuck with what the camera spits out.

      I like sticking with the original images for my models. Trying to alter them in post, and then run them for a map or model just doesn't seem like the right thing to do for sure. Didn't realize Maps Map Easy won't touch Lightroom exported images. It's good to know!

    I agree that dji needs to add this but seems to be like the sdk for some of the other drones $$$.Not sure your of your work flow and outputs. Could you export into qgis then export to deliverable format finaly editing color grading in ps or lr?

      I think I can go in for an edit of the models with PS or LR. Need to think about the workflow for it, don't want to mess up the models due to editing. I'll ponder it a bit more, and if I come up with something I'll share it here. 😁

    I have maverick 3e as well, how do you put litchi on the RC controller?

    • @AZ-Drone
      @AZ-Drone  8 місяців тому

      At present, Litchi still isn't ready for the M3E. But I do know that there is a beta version out there (I totally missed that one), so hopefully we'll see Litchi for the M3E in the near future.
      I can take my missions from Litchi and convert them for the M3E. I did a video on this not too long ago. Here's the link, and I hope you find it useful. ua-cam.com/video/BKAxf3khqNM/v-deo.htmlsi=EQNpsfmMcONDwSXA

    Can you use another program like Litchi for normal camera stuff w M3E?

      To my knowledge, not at the moment. That's one reason I'm looking forward to Litchi's final app for the M3E. I'm really hoping they'll help fill in some holes for our M3E usage.
