Mavic 3 Enterprise White Balance - Is This A Problem?

  • The Mavic 3 Enterprise White Balance is a bit of a problem. You see, you can change your White Balance settings on this enterprise drone. A simple and basic digital camera features was left off of DJI's entry enterprise mapping drone. As you dig deeper into the M3E, you find many "basic" features missing, or severely pulled back. It's a shame.

I think there is a petition to add more "Mavic" type capabilities to this platform.

I need to find the petition! Comparing features and abilities it seems to me that we would have been better off getting the Mavic 3 Pro. It does 75% of what we need, vs the M3E doing about 25% of what we need.

The petition is found in Need every ones help on this one ! Request DJI to add all cinematography features on Mavic3 to Mavic 3e Enterprise series.I am sure you can add things to the list. There would be a better response if everybody put in a request on the DJI forums .

The petition is on the Mavic Pilots forum under Mavic 3e but it costs $3.00 usd to complete . Great work Rich

Hey thanks for that! I'll be checking out the petition today. There are a few issues beyond White Balance that are also a problem. Would be nice if DJI doesn't abandon M3E owners....we'll see.

Great assessment! I've been going back and forth with Dji for months about problems with this drone and the mission redo's I had experienced. They've finally admitted there's an issue with drone and currently working on the problem but not sure when the update will be available. I asked them are they going to inform owners so they can make decisions before taking on certain missions but no response to that question. I only received we will keep you informed about the update so please be aware pilots.

Thanks for your comment! I figured there's more going on with this drone as we test everything out. I've experienced some odd situations with Waypoint missions, and random items like Dewarp turning itself off, or mysteriously going from AFS to Manual focus. Just lots of little odd issues. The mapping missions work well so far, and finish quickly so that has value. But it seems like a drone that isn't finished yet.

It's been very surprising as we learn more about the M3E. Mapping works well, but it should be able to do a little more give it's status and price point.

those examples you showed from the DJI forum are really interesting. would love to know what change in conditions caused those issues as its not a problem i have had. i live and work in England (and North Wales) and have been using the M3E since March. i have a two large sites i fly regularly - one 88Ha and one 103Ha. i would think this problem manifests on larger jobs due to the opportunity for the light to change mid flight? the issue we have in the UK when trying to be consistent with camera settings is with the weather front driven cloud cover we get. its changes constantly so im surprised i havent fallen victim yet. in 4 years drone flying probably the only time ive had consistent conditions is when we have 100% cloud cover. i very rarely get consistent conditions on a sunny day - a problem when i am trying to film "cinematically" on my M2P for progress videos as i constantly have to reach for the Aperture control and start again. However, i havent had an issue with my orthomosaics on these jobs - captured entirely in auto on the M3E. i was working on the assumption that having an EV constanly at zero was the most important thing, and to let the drone even the settings out when conditions change. interesting.

I agree, those examples were super interesting and puzzling. What happened during the flight that created such dramatic shifts. In my case, what bothers me the most is the fact that DJI stripped a lot of features for both still images and video alike. The ability to set white balance is something of a standard feature on digital cameras. What prevents DJI from allowing us to set white balance? I've seen a few issues with WB out of my M3E. Nothing on the order of the original poster's examples. I'll keep up with this and let you know if any responses are coming from DJI.

@@AZ-Drone i agree with the issues you raised over the camera. not such a huge issue for me as i was already using the m3e for mapping and modelling when i decided timelapse videos were something i wanted to offer.
i use dronelink for my flightpaths and back in march/april you were limited to virtual stick missions with the m3e and i hate how jerky these are and didnt want to spend time in post fixing them.
some research led me to the m2p as the best tool for being able to do flight plans using DJI waypoints, so i dropped about $600 on a second hand one with a couple of extra batteries. figured i would use it until DJI released the APK for the Mavic 3 (doesnt look like it will happend). as a result i have only ever used the m3e as a survey tool, rather than for photos and videos (i also love the 5 bracket AEB photos on the m2p).
as it turns out im happy with the two drone setup as it spreads the job over available batteries. i actually still take my mini 2 with me for a quick scoping flight before i start working properly.

Hey Rich. As always good stuff and thanks for answering my questions over the last couple weeks under my other username (Steve ******). Another thing I've noticed with at least my waypoint missions with Dronelink is that during video the camera wants to refocus or adjust exposure (not sure which) Do you see this with the onboard waypoint missions? See what I'm talking about here: ua-cam.com/video/4hCn0L8hv4o/v-deo.html it "jumps" focus at around 0:09 and then around 0:13 and then several more times during the video.
