Spent a month working on this bad boy, I love the video, but it's really struggle to find viewership, if you liked it as well, please consider sharing it somewhere, it would really help :) Also Follow me on Twitter for insight quips
your quality and taste of game is good bro keep up the good work, speaking of space game and lore what is your opinion about warhammer 40k btw kinda interisting to me if you can explain it with your style. lol
TotallyPointlessTV: "you aren't the center of the universe" Developers: "In order to make the physics engine work properly we had to make the player the center of the universe, ironically"
but also the game essentially makes you the center of the universe at the end because (spoilers) you create the new universe, making you the most important thing ever
One of the most powerful moments for me was something you mentioned: When getting to the Sun Station, and finally realizing that the Supernova was natural, I had such a feeling of hopelessness. I sat there, and just waited for the next supernova just trying to think up any possible way to save the solar system. I felt invested, I felt like one the inhabitants that had just LOST all hope of a future. It's an extremely powerful moment. It's a shame that this game is one of those games that you can only ever experience once, but it's been one of the best games I've played.
Same. Although I sat inside of the sun station and watched as the sun grew closer as if climbing up prongs pointed towards the sun drawing me in to its inevitable fate. That was the moment when I realized the interloper didn't cause the sun to die. The sun expanding is what caused the interloper to fall into it. I wouldn't be able to stop the seed from consuming timber hearth. I couldn't save anyone. No game has ever made me feel like that before. At least not without pulling me out of the experience because I'm not skilled enough to progress.
I actually had kinda expected that, but my feeling of hopelessness was different. When I realized it was natural, I actually thought I was gonna be trapped in the loop forever. Since the goal of the Ash Twin Project was for it to be artificially induced supernova, it meant that they could easily turn it off. But since this one was natural, I believed that the loop was unstoppable. I believed it would go on forever and there was nothing to do to stop it.
@@solsystem1342 Oh, in my playthrough I went to the interloper first and this was my theory too! I thought the comet was trigerring the explosion, until I got to the sad truth...
1:02:30 I think Riebeck in his optional dialogue after the campfire song sums it up perfectly: "I learned a lot, by the end of everything. The past is past, now, but that’s… you know, that’s okay! It’s never really gone completely. The future is always built on the past, even if we won’t get to see it. Still, it’s um, time for something new, now."
If you talk to chert at different points in the loop they have different dialogue. Near the end they realise all the stars are going supernova, and says something like ‘what a shame to have lived to see the end of the universe. Oh well, might as well enjoy the view’.
I actually died when trying to reach the ship with the working warp core in hand and got pretty bumbed out about it. Only after like a day of brooding did I realize that a new playthrough isn't like a hard reset where you have to do it all over again. You already have the knowledge to reach the end game. You have the eye coordinates, the location of the ship that can take you to the eye, and the warp core needed to power the ship. All you need to do is grab the launch codes for your ship from the start and you're good to go.
And the neat thing about that exact dilemma is that the devs even put an achievement in the game for that exact outcome. Start a brand new play through, with no previous save, immediately start the final loop, finish the game, and you’ll be rewarded for it. Blows my mind how much love went into this game.
I think my favorite part of this game is that just ends with your friends around a fire. It’s sad and hopeless but also very hopeful at the same time. Absolutely love it. And there is some insanely wacky multiverse ending runs you can do.
I completely agree. That moment, when everyone contributes a layer of melody to the music, is so incredibly magical. So intimate and yet so grand. Ideally you have spent time with each of them at that point... you found Feldspar, who was given up by everyone. You found Solanum, who was separated from everything including herself. Some of them were so fearful or lonely... but they get to be together with you. You all get to have one last lovely time around the campfire. My favorite part about this is that you can even roast marshmallows and take your time for as long as you want.
Hey, you know what they say: "In fearful day, in raging night, With strong hearts full, our souls ignite. When all seems lost in the War of Light, Look to the stars, for hope burns bright!"
This game is a masterclass in game design: a big unfathomable universe with endless piles of nothing to explore is infinitely less impactful than a small system tailored with extreme attention to detail
I went into the game initially expecting not a whole lot of enjoyment due to the scale being much smaller than expected. But it really just goes to show how integral a well thought out dense world is in comparison a large empty one as you said.
49:00 “It’s tempting to linger in this moment while every possibility still exists; But unless they are collapsed by an observer, they will never be more than possibilities.” This line is so nice to hear as an over thinker, never being able to make a concrete decision. It’s so interesting how in this context it refers to the possibilities through the time loop, but to me sounds like an nice reminder as a fellow human also very aware of their limited time on this earth~ thanks for the video!
It's also an explicit encouragement to take the warp core and reach the eye. It's especially potent because it's mirrored in Grabbo (Grobbo? Gorbbo?) who has long since given up on exploration and is just meditating to make the infinite loop pass by faster and faster forever, paralysed. By the end, you give up on your galaxy. On your home. On all these dizzyingly beautiful sights and sounds and places you were surrounded by all game. You even give up your life. But that is exactly what births a new world full of new infinite possibilities! And the beings of that new universe look up at the stars, their hearts beating faster at the excitement of seeing them up close!
Its also a nod to quantum physics. A quantum particel can be in at infinite amount of position at the same time, but the observer just sees one of the possibilities. While another observer sees a different one.
It’s mainly about quantum mechanics, but quantum mechanics has an extremely strong philosophy environment around it that can be equivocate to what you interpreted
I've said it before, but having a viewer engaged on UA-cam for over an hour is not an easy feat. And you my man, have the skill for it. Keep up the good work! Loved the video!
For real, social media seems to have been heading towards short form content for quite a while now cuz nobody has the attention span to watch anything over a minute long anymore. I love just sitting there half asleep while watching this dudes videos.
Outer Wilds is, without a doubt, my favorite game. I’ve never experienced something like it and the only way I can scratch the itch of playing it for the first time again is to watch others play it and consume any and all discussion surrounding it. Thank you for this video, it’s excellent! I hope you plan to cover the DLC.
I’m watching someone do an entire 12 hour video of their playthrough through the game, and seeing things I missed, and things I found that I could potentially have used for something that I didn’t think of it really cool. Not being personally under the time constraint lets you think a bit more without breaking immersion by pausing the game.
Also a cool neato detail I didn’t notice until my second playthrough I did for the dlc is that the Nomai writing for the children looks different than the adults. It’s much more large and messy, compared to the neatness of the adults handwriting. 24:00 if anyone wants to see what I’m talking about
I've always loved the way Nomai writing looks. It's cryptic and foreign, yet beautiful. There's likely no pattern to how it works, unless the creators designed an entire writing system (Would not be surprised), but it certainly feels real due to details like this.
The conversation structure is simple, but actually a thing (Similar to forum threads, with responses 'branching', which also fits because of their overall scientific and intellectual tendencies as a species.) Beyond that, I'm not sure but it'd be simple enough to codify a language. That said at the time of the species' life, they are very advanced and use the 'staff' to write, so it's possible that the language is more like a QR code to a text document. Then again, we're not sure if they communicate verbally because of how long they've been dead.
@@kurokasteele4830 i actually thought since like midway into my journey that they did not indeed communicate verbally, since they travel space a lot sound wouldn’t be that great at communicating stuff
I would absolutely love to see your take on the Outer Wilds DLC: The Echoes of The Eye! Its alright if you don’t, I just believe you’ll love it just as much as the base game
@@mangckyatmamon unironically i expected to be scared pretty hard in DLC, but after i played it i found myself completing it without being scared that much, the funny thing about it, that base game scared me much more times and much harder, i were scared almost always and everywhere, because i never knew what to expect, and always found myself being scared of something that was not scary at all, but after i got scared 1 time in DLC i used to it and understood how it works and just started to chilling through entire DLC
I remember the first time I lost my ship; I'd just arrived at one of the ash twins, I forget which one, when I saw a helix tube coming out of the ground. I thought to myself "well this is obviously a landing pad, right?" So I landed, got out, and found the controls, which I promptly used to launch my ship into space. I watched it fly away, thinking "Huh... Crap..."
Outer wilds is finally getting the love it has always deserved, this game is a hidden gem that will some day recognized as the absolute masterpiece it is.
I made the mistake of buying it and not being able to play it because I have an intense fear of space and water. I’ll play any horror game but the vastness of the two just destroys me
@@Sarah-qx4vz I had the exact same problem. Discovered it as I tried to play, I almost passed out. It was so weiiiiird lmao. I had to watch a let's play, unfortunately, but I still enjoyed the experience a lot.
Dude!!! This is so awesome! Keep on doing these types of videos. I'll miss the fake fighters funny comments, but I'm enjoying this new phase of your channel
"I'm not crying. You are" Maybe... Just maybe... a bit... I loved every second of this game so much. The ending where you reunite with the others for one last song is beautiful. The only thing I hate is that I can't reset my brain to experience this wonderful game for the first time again
I legit got close to crying... Over a UA-cam video essay... That hasn't happened in fucking years. On a less dramatic note, as someone that came for the martial arts, I've been stunned by your quality as you switched topics, as it's not only still there, but higher than ever. I really hope you have a great time making videos, because I always have a great time watching them.
I'm not a gamer, and haven't owned a console since the N64, but your content makes me want to give video games another shot. That's how much your passion comes through. I subbed because of the fake martial arts content, but stayed because all of your videos are interesting and entertaining. Keep up the good work!
I was like you. I stopped at PS2 before and I came back 2016. I missed out on so much great games. I got myself a PC. Games are much cheaper and some of the best games ever made are below $10 now. If you have the time you should try gaming again.
I’m a bit late to this, but what the above guy said^ jump back in. If you don’t want to sink some money into a console you could ask friends or see what’s on whatever devices you have.
well, I'm a year late here but I hope you played this game in the mean time. I'm not much of a gamer myself, few games get me reaaally engaged, and this one was just too special. And playing it made me want to play more games like this, games that you can connect to emotionally. 10/10 would recommend you give it go!
I have not played a video game since Unreal Tournament came out on the original Xbox. Oh how much video games have progressed since then. It’s almost enough to make me buy a new gaming system... almost. Anyways, we’re all super grateful for your work, TPTV. Alohas everyone and have a blessed day.
If you're going to get back into gaming as an adult, do yourself a favour and just get a PC. Even at the ridiculous prices for GPU's nowadays, it's still worth it over being stuck with a console.
@@crazydiamond8654 Nothing, but a PC is much less limiting. You can work on the same PC you game on. You also have access to practically unlimited backwards compatibility, and you can even emulate ps2 and below era games, I believe even ps3 emulation is competent nowadays.
@@meyes1098 You didn't mention the most important factor (probably because it's really obvious): You *already need a computer,* which makes it even less expensive in practice. If we assume that budget is the focus, it alo feels safe to assume that they're probably not looking for a top-of-the-line gaming PC and will probably be using it as their regular work/general use computer too, then we can think of the effective [extra] cost of the gaming laptop as the difference between the final price of the computer and the price of the computer you _would have bought_ if you were not going to use it for gaming. And if you look at it like that, it's pretty hard for it to cost more than a new console :)
@@idontwantahandlethough that's true, and to top it off, even if you do decide to upgrade, you can do it piece by piece with a PC :D So you can buy a better video.card now and a better cpu in 3 years.
It’s clear you put love and care into making this beautiful video, just as the devs have done for Outer Wilds. Time is irreplaceable; once it has passed, whether it is taken or given, it can never be returned. You’ve added another drop of beauty into an endlessly overflowing bucket of life and I hope you know you’re appreciated throughout all of time. Thank you for hearing us. Thank you for loving us. We love you and are always with you. ♥️
Woah, this is way too much dude, but thank you so much! This video was the second analysis I made on this channel, just as the gaming content was starting to gain traction, so despite the lower view count, it's still one of my favourites, the game holds such a special meaning. Thanks for the kind words and thanks for the super :)
Seeing you being passionate about something, makes me jealous because the work you're putting out is amazing and I wish I could find passion in life... enough to motivate me to learn to edit videos...this video is another beautiful one friend...I hope you continue on this path because I know you have to be so much happier doing it
Every single channel I come across, or i've watched for a while that "change" their content to stuff that isn't necessarily popular but that they are really passionate about, they make videos that can all be considered "fucking awesome" and the likes. THIS was an amazing video about an amazing piece of media, and I hope you manage to convey you passion about the next subject just as well as you did "today". Much love, and I'm looking forward to the next experience.
19:46 I always thought those exacting phrases, not to take away from the personality of the Nomai talking or their scientific brilliance, was more a mere product of the Hearthian translation than the way they actually thought and spoke in conversation. Like in one log one Nomai says to another something like "you must be pulling my walking appendage [leg]" but when I read lines like that I always attributed the goofy, technical, exact phrasing to the Hearthians. Same as in your example: better "50 percent" could just be a consequence of whatever was coded in the translator device to output when it encountered that particular Nomai written word. I always pictured some kind of dictionary curated on TH that was put together by some archeologist who tried to assign Hearthian words (aka the player's chosen game language) to Nomai writing while trying to be as absolutely accurate as possible. Of course that leaves unexplained the absurdity and huge question of how the Nomai would have had so many of the same idiomatic expressions, but we suspend some beliefs for the sake of a game that's more than willing to meet us 50 percent-way when it comes to fidelity to real-world phenomena and internal consistencies.
This game's music always makes me cry, especially the final version you get when you complete the story. The way you edited this to use that as the actual closer to the video... "Take them."
Even saying it's criminally underrated is an understatement. I wrote off this game for years and finally caved and tried it at the end of last year. It is easily one of my top favorite games of all time; if not, THE top favorite. I've never been so emotional playing a video game. Just hearing certain songs in the soundtrack makes me tear up.
This was the most unique outer wilds video ive ever watched. Due to the complex emotional and philosophical aspect of this game, most discussion is always very serious, solem, and mournful, with also deep respect. This video was a uniquely funny one, with lots of entertaining quips. However, it still shows deep respect and retains the serious mood of the game, and tackles the deep philosophical parts with a healthy dose of humor. Well done
Its been two years since I first played this game, watching this video now makes me still cry so much realizing that i cannot repeat the story without remembering it ever again. One of the best games ever created.
SPOILERS JUST IN CASE Real quick, my first experience with the supernova came when i fell into brittle hollow and couldnt figure out the white hole station. I sat there and just waited for it to teleport me back which it did, then i fell in the black hole again. I didnt even notice the changes in the sun, i just looked at my map real quick and thought, whoa why did the sun just change color? then i saw as it slowly moved to the edge of the solar system, swallowing me whole. Anyways I just beat the game today and the ending literally almost brought me to tears. All of them just sitting around the campfire playing music together one last time, reflecting on what is going on and coming to terms with it. And old Esker just happy to see everyone reunited. The only thing im scared of now is the fact that i may never experience a story so masterfully crafted like this one. GG mobius, you've changed a lot of people's lives.
18:44 fun fact! When you get to the core of Giant's Deep, you can actually find the part they're talking about here, it's one of those tube/hallways that connect the cannon compartments to the main body, it's incredible the attention to detail in this game.
About 40 minutes into this video I realized it's basically a neatly summarized "walk through with commentary" except it's actually informative and entertaining. This is the first time I've watched a walk through video and actually enjoyed it. Thank you.
Small correction: the eye and the sun aren't billions of light years apart, in fact they aren't far at all, seeing the eye is actually orbiting the sun and we can see it explode from the eye right on time (meaning there wasn't much distance for light to travel) It's a small detail that was just bugging me lmao
It's a bit weird. One thing that he didn't mention is that it's the end of this universe and other stars are supernovaing at around the same time. You can see them over the course of the loop. The outer wilds iteration of the universe just seems to be smaller than ours by several orders of magnitude. Still not billions of years away but very far relative to any distance the player travels.
I screwed up awhile ago when I first found this video and now I will never get to experience the game on its lonesome as a first time but If I had never actually found this video I would have never known about the outer wilds and never would have found what is possibly my favorite video on UA-cam and one of the better content creators especially for your long form content You are amazing and please keep living your life well
3 moments in Outer Wilds no one can deny having experienced: 1. The first supernova. 2. Entering dark bramble too quickly and get monched. 3. Forgetting to wear your suit before you pop out to manually enter the sun station on the best attempt you've likely had.
My man. This video is absolutely wonderful. I'm so glad that I stumbled on this channel. I hope you end up doing more content like this. Seriously, well done. I look forward to the next one. 😃
I can't wait for you to get the recognition you deserve mate the videos you've released recently have really been some of the best content I've seen on UA-cam in a long time
33:31 personally i think teleporting to the sun station via the pad is more impactfull, as when you go there and realise the bridge is broken and you have to jump thru is one of the most amazing moments
Happy to see the channel hitting the sub's that I feel you've always deserved. Witty rhetoric, quality editing, excellent content. I'm all the way with it. Kudos
Thank you for the amazing video, I was really eager for someone to do a video about this game and gives it its full credit, however you left out one essential part, which is the DLC, which truly ties everything together
Wanted to share this with you. I've discovered your Chanel with your recent projects like silent hill, dead space (first of your videos I saw) and man hunt. I can't compare to your previous more frequent work but for what you've been creating since this shift in creation, all this content has been truly great both in the passion you radiate and the entertainment you give us. Keep doing what you love ^^
I've watched thinking just to have something to accompany my sleep, little did i know I'm watching probably one of the most beautiful game, viewed and narrated the best way I've ever watched. I am stoked, so well done both the video and the game. Thank you.
When my first loop ended it was just incredible. I was exploring the moon and ended up at the planet tracking device. I tinkered around a little bit and just as I put the viewer to the sun symbol it went supernova. I thought it was weird, interesting and kinda cool and hooked me into the exploring aspect of the game since I wanted to find out more of that cool and weird stuff. It wasn't until the end of the 2nd loop I realized that this was pure coincidence but just one of the countless moments in this game I'll not forget.
You know the game is really good when you video essays like this talking about it, it’s also interesting how each playthrough is gonna be unique to you
I bought the game forever ago, played 15 mins not even making it off the world before giving up and being bored. Years later seeing how highly you talked about it and recommended playing before watching. So I sat down for a few days and had a blast exploring all this game had to offer. It was quite the unique and magical journey I didn't know I'd of liked so much. The story and beautiful sounds with all the intruige and forcing myself not to look up anything and figure out the puzzles was a grand old time. Returning to finish this video and fill in the few story beats was really nice. Thanks for sharing this and you've made another fan of this series.
Honestly I love the story behind this game. It's definitely underrated! I enjoyed my time with it and finding out that no matter what you're stuck in that loop really hits ya
55:13 one tiny nitpick though. The Hearthian star system is unlikely to be millions of light years from the eye. Probably a few light hours or days. Remember how the Nomai say that the Eye is in orbit around the sun. Even in our Universe, millions of light years is galaxies away and while we can spot Supernovae in them, they'll not be as visible or spectacular. Besides, in Outer Wilds, distances are even smaller. The solar system is just a few kilometers in radius.
This was a great video for an incredible game. Thank you for this, I hope it brings new eyes on The Outer Wilds, even one pair of new eyes, because it really is an amazing experience that people should know about.
I can appreciate that the first exploration of Timber Hearth isn't interrupted by the supernova no matter how long you take getting used to things. I haven't used a game controller in years so it took me the better part of an hour to actually get off planet, and I didn't even see the supernova during my first run because my autopilot did a Thing right as the End Times music was starting and tossed me into the sun as I was trying to leave the Ash Twin. I didn't realize the time loop was only 22 minutes until later. Even though it only makes sense for the sun to implode only after you interact with the Nomai statue or else you'd get an instant game over with no chance of saving, getting a chance to breathe and explore the village first was a nice touch even if it doesn't make sense narratively - your countdown starts the moment you wake up, and at the 22 minute mark I was probably still trying to figure out how to fly the model rocket, lol
I’ve listened to this 5 separate times the entire way through. I get a serious ‘itching,’ is how I would describe my feeling as far as the narrative. And this channel is the cure. There’s always a nugget somewhere. I was not blessed with descriptive powers, but this man makes me see why I loved the games that I loved.
I didn't even noticed the video was one hour long, it was so interesting for the first thing I watched in this channel that I will subscribe and wait for more content like that
This game. I can’t figure out why it always makes me tear up. Wether it’s the beauty of the game or the messages it brings with it. It’ll always get them tears going for me
Every now and then I come back to this video because of the themes of the video and how, with time, some perspectives of mine change on it. The melancholy idea of looping the final moments of a dying system is one that hits me where I live. Imagine witnessing the beautiful end of life in a system, only to do it all over again. Your coverage of this game is phenomenal, so thank you.
Oh man! You do this in such a great and almost poetic way - it's just awesome 💯 Please keep on going. Do what you love and not only what the ppl want to see. Big up 👌🔥
I love this game. It's really sad that it seemed to get kind of overlooked though. It's such a great thought provoking game, and every time you figure something out you feel like a real explorer. Also I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who forgets they aren't wearing their suit some times lol.
Don’t know how many times but I always come back to these videos. You’ve really come into your own with these long review type videos, I love how like monotone and calming your voice is, the captivating gameplay and how you make sure the viewers understand the story. Keep it up man this is amazing
You perfectly captured the essence of playing this masterpiece of a game. Any chance at doing an update video on the Echoes of the Eye DLC? It’s beautifully haunting and I actually enjoyed it just as much as the original bulk of the game. Cannot recommend it enough
lol you hyped me with the intro, i'm not spoiling anything about this game, gonna watch this after i finished this Edit: thank you for making me discover this game, I won’t forget this one easily
I recently finished the main game and it’s such a… it’s a piece of art, right now hearing what you said I remembered I didn’t understand the sun station when I got there so by the time I was doing the vessel run my brain was still thinking that finding the eye would be a way to stop the supernova, it’s quantum in design we don’t understand it so I think it could’ve been possible. The moment you gather everyone and Solanum says it’s basically the last thing to do before a new universe comes it hit me with a bag of bricks I had to stop and slow down. Then I told, everyone to play the song and when they were all quiet and Solanum told me that the only way to do it was to observe it I cried. I now cry every time I hear anyone’s instrument, and especially hearing the complete tune. This game is a masterpiece and I’m sorry it took me so long to get to it
I loved the bit at the end with all the explorers playing music to collapse the eye and create a new reality. I got serious vibes of J.R.R. Tolkien and how the 'god ' and 'angels' of the LoTR universe literally sang reality into existence all together. The good, the bad, harmony and discord of the universe bound together through one single song that defines the course of all reality.
It’s a shame that outer wilds is so underrated just because there is a seperate game with a somewhat similar name, especially considering how lackluster the outer WORLDS is compared to outer WILDS. Maybe after this video, the game may get better recognition thanks to you.
I didn't know it would be so interesting to see the playthrough experience of someone else. The different order of how they tackle the locations, the things they do, the things they don't do, the process they follow to reach their conclusions. I definitely jumped around a lto more and saw a lot more of the system, even if I did have a pretty solid grasp of the plot by the mid point, simply because I'd probably be too bored to go back for them once I resolved the story. It was definitely a unique and memorable experience. "Skipping" sections by making your own discoveries brings a sense of pride but they're still worth a visit.
i think this might be one of my favourite videos you've made, i keep rewatching it. The first time I shed a tear at the end, what a great game and great review of this!
when I saw the video notification I new that I should work on my stuff, finish whatever there is to be finished, and make a space in time to watch this video. And it absolutely delivers! Thank you.
What a gorgeous experience I never knew anything about until now. The "full" ending was pretty profound and made me tear up. Honestly haven't been having a great time in life. It's a reminder we're all only here for a moment, and you have to make it count. I've been living paycheck to paycheck and fighting to get ahead of it in a never-ending cycle. I want my time to mean something. Also I just have to say the use of the puffer fish audio gets me in every single one of your videos. Thank you.
I played and beat this game sometime last year. Since then I've had this in my top 5 games ever, just didn't know where exactly. After thinking about it, and watching your video, I think I can say in my own belief that it is the best game (#1) ever made. I say that because it is a one time experience, and a worthwhile one at that. The fact that it does not work well on repeated playthroughs makes the experience so much more valuable than regular games. The soundtrack is 10/10, the graphics are charming and Pixar-like, the world is realistic in that it doesn't care how it kills you, it will one way or another. Honestly, the polish and production value is also great. No glitches or exploits or crashes. It's a perfect game. Think of every video-essay on say...Ocarina of Time. They're in-numerable. People still talk about that game 20 years later. I think Outer Wilds, while still popular in the here and now, will blow up in recognition and get the eternal praise treatment that ocarina of time gets.
Excellent video! I do wanna point out that the Hearthians are all non-binary, using "they/them." This is specifically different from the Nomians, who use gendered pronouns, and differentiates the two cultures. Also, Solanum is female. =)
NGL, I feel as if this video misses/skips some parts of the game I consider reasonably important but nevertheless, it is still a great video on the game. good work! on another note, I very much appreciate this game's small but relatively useless details, such as cooking and eating marshmallows will actually heal you! in almost all cases, that's completely pointless as you can just fully heal at your ship, but it's still a thing!
I played the game completely blind, it took a while to finish because of how unique the puzzles are, but damn… was it the most rewarding experience I’ve ever had gaming. I absolutely love this game and it will most likely always be my all time favorite. The spirit, love and attention to detail are astounding and unmatched. The way music is incorporated and drives the game is also just one of a kind. Thank you for the great summary and I know it’s just a summary and you can’t cover the complete depth of the game, but you did great.
The only game I hear soundtracks from, and it doesn't matter in what mood I am, I always hold myself enough to not cry. This is my favorite game, and the emotions it brings me are all mixed between sad and happy. This game deserves a recognition on a worldwide scale.
Its interesting how similar "Nomai" is to "Zonai." Two completely unrelated ancient species of goat people, from two completely different games, at two different times...
I played this game for the first time last year because my friend told me to leave their stream and play it for myself and I am still beyond grateful. I have never played a game that's stuck to me this much both in gameplay and the deeper meaning behind everything. While I'm sad I'll never get to get the same experience playing this again, it is an experience I will never forget. I have cried over this game and it's meaning so many times and even a year later still get choked up when I think about it

TotallyPointlessTV: "you aren't the center of the universe"
Developers: "In order to make the physics engine work properly we had to make the player the center of the universe, ironically"
i used control f to find a comment saying this
And you end the game by going to the center of the universe
@@Lumberjack_king aye spoilers
but also the game essentially makes you the center of the universe at the end because (spoilers) you create the new universe, making you the most important thing ever
@@Patatas3668 yeah and the eye of the universe is in our solar system
One of the most powerful moments for me was something you mentioned:
When getting to the Sun Station, and finally realizing that the Supernova was natural, I had such a feeling of hopelessness. I sat there, and just waited for the next supernova just trying to think up any possible way to save the solar system. I felt invested, I felt like one the inhabitants that had just LOST all hope of a future.
It's an extremely powerful moment.
It's a shame that this game is one of those games that you can only ever experience once, but it's been one of the best games I've played.
i knoooow right??? unironically such a magical experience and im obsessed with it, i wish i could play it for the first time again so bad
Also I wouldnt recommend staying on the sun station, it gets destroyed at like the 12 minute mark into the loop
His gravity lift saved me so many times from getting flung into the black hole at the center of brittle hollow
And you don't even need to do a hard reset; you can just load your last save from the main menu.
@@Queenofdragons6 you used to have to do an entire new run
dying after picking up the core also still lets you reload the last save i'm pretty sure...
@@zegamingcuber857 yeah if you died died for real you had to basically restart your wholw adventure
Hey, you know what they say:
"In fearful day, in raging night, With strong hearts full, our souls ignite. When all seems lost in the War of Light, Look to the stars, for hope burns bright!"
I despise bad endings
This game is a masterclass in game design: a big unfathomable universe with endless piles of nothing to explore is infinitely less impactful than a small system tailored with extreme attention to detail
I went into the game initially expecting not a whole lot of enjoyment due to the scale being much smaller than expected. But it really just goes to show how integral a well thought out dense world is in comparison a large empty one as you said.
Wide as a puddle, deep as the ocean. I love it so much
It’s not the size of the open world that matters, but the density of it.
Definitely it's a message about taking chances and not letting life slip by
Its also a nod to quantum physics. A quantum particel can be in at infinite amount of position at the same time, but the observer just sees one of the possibilities. While another observer sees a different one.
Finally someone who is somewhat competent in science also noticed
It’s mainly about quantum mechanics, but quantum mechanics has an extremely strong philosophy environment around it that can be equivocate to what you interpreted
I've said it before, but having a viewer engaged on UA-cam for over an hour is not an easy feat. And you my man, have the skill for it.

Amazing video. Summarised one of the greatest games of all time amazingly.

But you haven’t ever played it.
@@AEQEA They literally said they did
@@AEQEA you dumb?
The conversation structure is simple, but actually a thing (Similar to forum threads, with responses 'branching', which also fits because of their overall scientific and intellectual tendencies as a species.)
Beyond that, I'm not sure but it'd be simple enough to codify a language. That said at the time of the species' life, they are very advanced and use the 'staff' to write, so it's possible that the language is more like a QR code to a text document. Then again, we're not sure if they communicate verbally because of how long they've been dead.
It’s also amazing to realize that one of the pieces of writing you find is from Solanum when she was a child!
@@kurokasteele4830 i actually thought since like midway into my journey that they did not indeed communicate verbally, since they travel space a lot sound wouldn’t be that great at communicating stuff
I picked up on that too!
had to pay my respects, the soudtrack alone is amazing.

Over a UA-cam video essay... That hasn't happened in fucking years.
On a less dramatic note, as someone that came for the martial arts, I've been stunned by your quality as you switched topics, as it's not only still there, but higher than ever. I really hope you have a great time making videos, because I always have a great time watching them.
the soundtrack and whole premise makes me cry. such a unique and beautiful game man.

Been missing out like a motherfucker.
If you're going to get back into gaming as an adult, do yourself a favour and just get a PC. Even at the ridiculous prices for GPU's nowadays, it's still worth it over being stuck with a console.
@@twizz420 Whats wrong with having a console
@@crazydiamond8654
Nothing, but a PC is much less limiting.

I love how dedicated you are to making this. This is by far THE game that DESERVES attention.
Being pulled into the sun and having my “life” flash in front of my eyes is one if the most memorable gaming experiences I’ve ever had
Those final moments around the bon fire together are some of the best in gaming. Amazing work ❤️
SPOILERS JUST IN CASE
Real quick, my first experience with the supernova came when i fell into brittle hollow and couldnt figure out the white hole station.
Thank you.
Small correction: the eye and the sun aren't billions of light years apart, in fact they aren't far at all, seeing the eye is actually orbiting the sun and we can see it explode from the eye right on time (meaning there wasn't much distance for light to travel)
It's a small detail that was just bugging me lmao
It's a bit weird. One thing that he didn't mention is that it's the end of this universe and other stars are supernovaing at around the same time. You can see them over the course of the loop. The outer wilds iteration of the universe just seems to be smaller than ours by several orders of magnitude. Still not billions of years away but very far relative to any distance the player travels.
I screwed up awhile ago when I first found this video and now I will never get to experience the game on its lonesome as a first time but If I had never actually found this video I would have never known about the outer wilds and never would have found what is possibly my favorite video on UA-cam and one of the better content creators especially for your long form content
You are amazing and please keep living your life well
3 moments in Outer Wilds no one can deny having experienced:

I can't wait for you to get the recognition you deserve mate the videos you've released recently have really been some of the best content I've seen on UA-cam in a long time
well I finally found my way here, so people are definitely still finding the channel! :)
33:31 personally i think teleporting to the sun station via the pad is more impactfull, as when you go there and realise the bridge is broken and you have to jump thru is one of the most amazing moments
This is a great video. You put a lot of work into all that footage. Can't believe I've never heard of the game. Unique.

2:21, funny thing is that in the games code, you are the center of the universe. When you jump everything moves down.
Thank you for the amazing video, I was really eager for someone to do a video about this game and gives it its full credit, however you left out one essential part, which is the DLC, which truly ties everything together

Thank you for this beautiful video!!
So sorry for the late reply, but thank you for the super and thanks for watching!
You know the game is really good when you video essays like this talking about it, it’s also interesting how each playthrough is gonna be unique to you
Love the gaming content.
Thanks dude!
So good, just what I wanted. Echoes of the eye PLEASE!!!
fantastic video all of the gaming related ones have been good, you have true talent and cant wait to see what you do next.
Dude, this is.... just beautiful. Thank for making a story of this.
My favourite tiny detail in this game is that you can tell the Nomai childrens handwriting because it’s bigger and messier than the adults.
Finally someone is talking about this gem of an experience!

Cannot recommend it enough
lol you hyped me with the intro, i'm not spoiling anything about this game, gonna watch this after i finished this
Edit: thank you for making me discover this game, I won’t forget this one easily
the effort you put into these videos is incredible, keep it up they're amazing
Hmm, C.S. Lewis did something similar in the first book of "The Chronicles of Narnia" where Aslan literally sang Narnia into existence. 🤔
Beautiful
goddamnit i absolutely LOVE cosmic space sci fi games like this.
This game made me incredibly emotional.
i think this might be one of my favourite videos you've made, i keep rewatching it. The first time I shed a tear at the end, what a great game and great review of this!
Such a horror game, gets me anxious at every moment
I was terrified of it for months before I could beat it
when I saw the video notification I new that I should work on my stuff, finish whatever there is to be finished, and make a space in time to watch this video. And it absolutely delivers! Thank you.
the music in this game makes me feel such a weird way, almost brings tears when i hear the main theme. truly a masterpiece.
Thank you.
As someone who’s played Outer Worlds and Outer Wilds, I wish so desperately they weren’t similarly named.
They’re both such wonderful experiences
NGL, I feel as if this video misses/skips some parts of the game I consider reasonably important
but nevertheless, it is still a great video on the game. good work!
on another note, I very much appreciate this game's small but relatively useless details, such as cooking and eating marshmallows will actually heal you! in almost all cases, that's completely pointless as you can just fully heal at your ship, but it's still a thing!
Well I’m early
I played the game completely blind, it took a while to finish because of how unique the puzzles are, but damn… was it the most rewarding experience I’ve ever had gaming. I absolutely love this game and it will most likely always be my all time favorite. The spirit, love and attention to detail are astounding and unmatched. The way music is incorporated and drives the game is also just one of a kind. Thank you for the great summary and I know it’s just a summary and you can’t cover the complete depth of the game, but you did great.
monke
