THANK YOU! I watch a bunch of turning videos and I'm always asking "Why are they doing that? What's that for? How come? What for? Why?" I'm so glad you talk over your vids. THANK YOU! Use as big of piece of sandpaper as you like Peggy. You go Girl!
Really great looking vase. Yes you are right... That's why so many of us love woodturning. The joy of ' finding' something beautiful inside something so ordinary is a life lesson for everyone. Keep safe and well.👍👍
A very beautiful vase and piece of wood. I admire your guts and talent for turning such a large piece of wood without a steady rest (maybe santy clause will bring you one for Christmas). No music to distract from the awesome turning and no plastic to mess up the wood. You are a very fine wood turner and I look forward to watching more of your work. Peace Out!!!
Very nice vase Peggy. Surprising what's inside an ugly log. Maple is one of my favorite woods to work. It's common, economical, strong and can be loaded with character. Great presentation! Thanks.
It's always a surprise when working with wood. Different grain designs that you can't see until you remove some of the wood. Sometimes ugly is beautiful.
I don't think I will ever understand the haters or negative comments youtubers get. Al Futardo used to say there is not a wrong way to use a tool, it's about what works for you or I. If you need to use a full sheet of sand paper, by al l means use it. Spalted Maple is a very rewarding piece of wood to work with and you did it justice.
Beautiful vase. Love the grain. Steady rests are handy for a job like that but if you ain't got it you can't use it. Take care and have a wonderful week.
Very nice, a lovely vase. A couple of years ago I switched to using lag bolts for the face plate. I drilled out the holes to accommodate the bigger diameter of the bolts. I still have the original bolts , no stripped screw threads using a socket wrench, and I think they hold the piece more securely.
Hello Peggy I really like this one the SIZE the COLOUR and the GRAIN sorry not commented lately A D has been really bad of late but keep up the good work and stay well and safe peace out
Very nice piece!!! As usual. On tenons breaking off, a short 45 degree bevel on the end going into the chuck will prevent the tenon from breaking off the turning will just tilt and get wedged between the head & tail stock. (Thanks to Stuart Batty for that it is especially effective with green wood).
Peggy i enjoy your voice over and really look forward to see what you make and you were talking the time it takes and what i figured out with hours you said i believe you should post a vid everyday j/k lol
Absolute proof that it is what is on the inside that is the most beautiful. As far as the poor unfortunate souls that ping you for using full sheets of sandpaper; there is a saying among woodworkers -- "a woodworker has many vise's" and that is just the way it is. Couple of ideas that you may decide to think about, or burn in the fireplace --> Real cheap DIY air filter -- a box fan with a furnace filter taped onto the intake side. --> in your list of products that you use with every project, add another heading "Wish List" include items that you would like to have to make your artistic talent safer and less work. Just some random purrs from "Nija Cat"
Hey PF, nice job!!! 👍👍👍 Just one thing. I may be wrong on this since I could not really tell on the video. So what I say may be wrong in case you’ve already done this. The length of screw used on the face plate seems good, but the gauge of screw seems a bit too small for that size of wood you are turning. You want to use a screw that has a shank that will fill the hole of the face plate. A #12 wood screw would seem to do the trick. Or about a 7/16” lag screw with a hex head would be good to use. Any screw play in the hole of the face plate allows some movement while turning wood. Consequently, the turning is compromised in some way. Just some food for thought.
Hey all I can say is wow. I’m just learning turning. Can you recommend a ok set of turining tools good for a beginner. Also can you do a video explaining what each tool is used for. Thank for sharing Really nice work ....Paul. 🇺🇸⚒👍

Lovely vase Peggy, lots of spalting and nice grain color to it! You mention square end screws , they must be available now in the US as that is the type of screw I have known all my life because the inventor of them is from Canada! Thanks, Al. Usually Ack's is my last finish. If I want a gloss finish, I might do a spray of gloss (usually deft brand). but 99% of the time it is just Ack's, which gives a nice sheen.
Another fantastic piece Peggy...really really nice! I watch many videos of woodturning but yours are the best. Your handling is a perfect mix of energy and precision...you feel wood's soul ande keep it out. Really satisfing...happy holidays from Italy!
