  • This video is about making a leather wallet . Like most of my videos . I make items I have never made before.
I hope this shows some of my thinking . As I design and deal with any problems as I go along.

R E I don’t like the heating on when I work. I had to be in and out the building when I was doing that video. It was mega cold outside

You are such a joy to watch. You make me unafraid to just give things a try. And in the end you have a very useable turned edge wallet! Very nice! Thank you very much! I am always excited when I see you’ve done a new video.

    Smashing video, George.
I've been at this Leather crafting for the past year and it's not coming easy, these videos are worth their weight in gold.
It's great to see a fellow Scotsman on here who is passionate and talented at his craft, even if your jokes are rubbish and your not a Celtic man. I'll forgive you for that. 👍😉

I was at a celtic match the other week(my nephew asked me to go) im glad I did. I managed to get a good sleep .
What probs are you having with the leather work. ?

@@UKSaddlerytrainingcoursesuk I'm sure your a celtic man deep down. 👍
I'm finding it difficult to understand which leather I should be using for each project George, as well as a few other wee issues.
I'm making leather jewellery and card wallets, using 1-2mm veg tan mostly. Trying to find leather with a tidy looking under side seems to be tricky unless I spend a fortune which makes it economical for selling on. Can you recommend a good way of tidying the under side of a hide at all? I've tried skiving then using gum tragacanth but I'm still not happy with the results.
Or should I stop being cheap and fork out for better quality leather?

Andy Terry if you dig down and go past Australia. You might find a bit of me that likes any football. Where in sunny Scotland are you

@@brabus4 I am doing saddle stuff in France at the moment . And having probs with the internet. I have just seen the second half of your last message. making the leather look good etc
I only ever buy nice leather. It makes the job easier. I have never used gum tragacanth. It sounds like a glue of sorts. I would have thought that should help with the back.. Without seeing the leather and the item you are making It would not be easy to advice, However I would try tallow fat then glue water. Then slick it to see if tat works. If you where nearer you could have popped in and I would have looked at it for you. Kirky is where all the posh people live . I am just a humble glesga lad.

Hi Pat I would advise. Look on eBay for some old Dixon’s tools. Unfortunately Dixon’s went bust a few years back. The only other place I know that sell tools is Abbey England. I have never seen their tools. So can not comment on there quality sorry

Totally meaningless, you glued the outside to the inside, ok! now how do you sew the inside of the credit card slots ??? Left Right !!! I made many portfolios but this system seems totally incomprehensible to me.....sorry for the sincerity.

    • @UKSaddlerytrainingcoursesuk
      @UKSaddlerytrainingcoursesuk  4 роки тому +2

TheLupulalb not sure what you find as totally meaningless. At the end there is a working wallet for cards and notes. I never edit the videos. You see it getting made. The only bit you don’t see is me sitting on the sewing machine. I do show where I have stitched. I never glued the entire inside. I only glued the edges to hold the parts that need stitched. I admit I’m not a photographer only a saddler who finds time now and then to do free videos

@@UKSaddlerytrainingcoursesuk Sorry! English is not my native language, but !!! .... the edges of the credit card slots from the left-right interior, had to be sewn before gluing the two sides of the wallet, I don't know if I understood myself, here I am - I said that I do not see the meaning of why the two parts of the wallet are glued together before sewing the inner slots, left-right ... otherwise, much health and success at work! ......it wasn't an attack, it was just a concern that I have

@@TheLupulalb lol I never thought . You were attacking. I am still unsure what bit you missed . If you mean the first stitch at 10.45 and 11.50 in the video. That is there to stop the credit card going in to far. My next stitch at 15.24 and 16.15 . is stitching the inside of the credit card slots . I do this before I put the wallet together. If I left it to the end the stitch would show outside the wallet. Lastly I put the inside of the wallet to the outside. I then turn the outer edges to seal all edges.

@@UKSaddlerytrainingcoursesuk Ok min 15.24 - min 16 .15 I meant it, but it seems I don't see the stitch and I didn't see when you sew, ok my apologies 😔😔😔
