I am quite a bit older than you. I started reading ebooks on my PDA with Pocket PC and Microsoft Reader. That didn’t last long and I learned the value of being able to “liberate” my books from encryption and convert them to any format I need. I chose Nook as my first ereader because they had access to library books long before Kindles. I have had many Nooks and Kindles over the years but never a Kobo. This new Kobo might just be the one that gets me to pull the trigger. I currently have 2 working Nooks and 2 working Kindles. I really can’t justify a new device so I am living vicariously through your videos. LOL Thanks for keeping us posted on all the new technology.
😂 Thanks for living vicariously through me . . . and for telling us your “e-reader journey”. Honestly, I have no excuse to buy most of the devices that I buy except that they’re cute, and I want them.
I want one! I have a kindle paperwhite 2015 but, looking at the kobo color seems great. I mostly use Libby and having access to overdrive on the kobo, great! Thanks for sharing!
I've had a kindle for a few years and have been really happy with it, but when I saw the Kobo color I couldn't resist getting it! My kindle is an older version so it doesn't have the warm light setting, and that's something I've been really missing when I read at night. So that, and the buttons, and the fact that you can annotate straight onto the page sold it to me for sure! The color is nice too, it's not something I have to have since I mostly read just plain text books, but it's a nice little addition to see the covers in color.
Thank you for sharing your comments. Since college I've been a big annotator as I read so I'm looking forward to receiving mine. I love that I can set up a folder for each book and add notes to that folder - or something like that. Monday (when mine arrives) seems a light year away. ha ha ha Have a great weekend!
I still love my kindle paperwhite from 2022. The colour kobo has been GREAT! I LOVE being able to annotate my books and write notes about them in the notebooks.
I talk about this in the video that I have posting tomorrow (6/14). Thank you for this question. I think I answer it in the video - let me know if you still have questions.
I’m intrigued! Looking forward to this deep dive. But I have a question: have you ever done an in depth on Calibre? I’d really be down for that because it keeps defeating me!
I haven’t, but I will. In the video that I have going up tomorrow (6/14) I talk about using Caibre to convert Kindle books for other devices. I think the key to Calibre is figuring out which plug-in to use for what. It has defeated me a few times, but I’ve gotten it to work for some things.
I just got me a kobo libra color and it came a couple days ago. I love it! I use library books on it. I really love that those stupid books that you can’t send to your kindle pop up on my kobo. It’s such a game changer. I haven’t put it down since I got it. I haven’t moved my kindle books over yet but I will at some point.
I’m interested in the kobo libra color but haven’t seen any real follow up videos about it on UA-cam. (Like a month later, etc) My first ereader was the kindle keyboard and I absolutely loved it. I didn’t think I would like one but I had health problems during that time and was very weak and my husband surprised me with that and it was such a game changer! I was able to tolerate reading for longer periods of time than when holding books. FYI I’m fine now. That was like 13 or so years ago. 😊 edit - I see you’ve already uploaded a “shallow deep dive” 😂 I’m watching it now!
I've been seeing this one on all over the UA-cam and glad you got it!! I'm seriously considering buying this one in the future. I'll definitely want to see the deep dive.
34:33 now I don’t know if this has ANY accuracy at all but the only people I’ve seen complain about the buttons have a black device lol idk if maybe in manufacturing some of the black buttons were minutely the wrong size or something but I don’t think I’ve seen anyone with a white one complain yet
I usually mostly watch your low point, inspiration videos and a few unboxing of e-reader videos. I only have my original kindle with buttons. I still love it but don’t use it much. For a number of years I’ve been a bit too distracted to actually get into any real books. That being said, I won a raffle for a new kindle (I can’t remember which model or year). I gave it to my husband. For a gift. He doesn’t even hardly use it. I’ve considered the remarkable or a new kindle. I like these videos because I am intrigued by these new devices.
Thank you for watching!! Honestly . . . If you’re considering the remarkable, maybe look at one of the tablets that runs Android like a Boox tablet. I’ve really been enjoying using those. I will do a video on the Boox Note 3 C soon so you can see it. It’s really big, but they have a lot of options.
Saw that, returned my Colour because it had missing pixels and felt just a bit wonky. Could have just been mine but saw the Boox Go coming in June and will jump on that. Best of all worlds and looks like a monster...well see.
The Boox Go 7 looks amazing . . . but I want the stylus capability, and I don’t think it has it. I want a small e-ink tablet that runs Android and has page turn buttons, color, and a stylus. That’s not much to ask, is it?!! 😂
@@fitdaniellereads I did. Don't know how it happened, but I had created a "Russian Doll" of subfolders. After starting over, it's now working as intended. I also created another folder for custom screensavers and have been going ham in Canva making them. I can share how if you're interested. Thank you so much for following up. I really appreciate that.
I’m a kindle girl for the same reason as you lol. I have 3 kindles and I love them. I have a kobo libra 2 and I loved it at first and then I went back to my kindle because all of my books were there 😂. I have some gripes with my kobo though. Small ones, that I probably wouldn’t have noticed if I didn’t have a kindle first!
😂 Yes!! If I just want to sit and read a book and not mess with ANYTHING, I still grab a Kindle. If I want to highlight or annotate in the book, I might pick one of the fancy color ones, but Kindles are still my “comfort reader”. 😂
June 14, 2024 question! When you write in a book on the kubo , and then you return the book, and check it back out will your comments and annotations, etc. highlighting, etc. be there? That’s what happens with Kindle unlimited as you know. I’m curious if the same applies toKubo.
You can definitely mark up library books, but I'm not sure about if you return it and get it again (or buy it) if Kobo remembers your annotations. I suspect it does, but let me investigate and get back to you.
Okay, here are my conclusions . . . for now. I tried it on a book from OverDrive and one from KoboPlus. I highlighted and annotated, returned the books and borrowed them again, and the highlights and annotations were not there on either book when I borrowed them again, so I don't think it "remembers" your markings.
Looking forward to a deep dive on this device. I just started watching your videos and I ended up purchasing the kobo libra color. I was so excited about this device before I received it but now I’m a bit disappointed (or just don’t have enough knowledge about it yet). The lighting seems to be harsh for my eyes even with the warm lighting and the distribution of the lights on the display seem to be lighter or darker in some spots. For example on the right side of my device the screen is much lighter in color and the left side is much darker when using warm lighting. I also can’t seem to be able to bold the text on the screen to read more comfortably. Is there a trick to this I may be missing? I even subscribed to kobo plus but was having no luck being able to just download a book without having to fully purchase it first or have a certain amount of points? I understand that they have a selection of “ready to read” books that can be just downloaded to the device and others are for purchase but I am not seeing the books I could just download. Have you encountered any of these issues with the display lighting and kobo plus? I’m very new to this and just received my kobo about a day or 2 ago but the time I have had to explore it has been limited to this point. I really want to love this device. I have only owned kindle devices. I’d love to know if you have any tips/tricks or information that I may be missing to help make the experience better!
Thank you so much for your comment and your questions. I am going to make note of all of your questions, and I will absolutely answer them. Just a few quick notes -- I was able to get a comfortable "warm" light on my screen by messing with the Brightness and Natural Light sliders. The Natural Light will turn the screen very warm -- like almost orange. I don't notice any issues with part of the display being lighter than other parts. I wonder if your device is defective. Hopefully not, but it might be. For the Kobo Plus, I went ahead and subscribed to it (for the free trial month anyway) when I read your question. I went to the "discover" tab at the bottom of the screen on my Kobo, and then I clicked "Kobo Plus" at the top. When I click one of the KoboPlus books, I have "Read with Kobo Plus" as an option, and when I click that (it's in a big rectangle to the right of the book), it downloads the book to my device, and the words change from "Read with Kobo Plus" to "Read Now". If that's not happening for you, I suspect that your device isn't signed into your Kobo Plus account. I hope this is helpful. I really haven't had much time to play with my Kobo either, but I will figure it out and make a deep dive video, and I will be sure to answer all of your questions. Thanks again for your comment! And thanks for watching!!
EXCUSE ME. In your previous video comparing Kobo Libra Colour 2 with the Kindle Colorsoft, you told us that the $20 stylus works with the devise, but here you say that we need the Kobo $70 stylus with the Kobo Libra Colour 2. Please clarify. Thank you.

It does have warm light, but this uses a kaleido 3 screen (colour) which is naturally darker than carta 1200 (black and white). That means some folks need to turn the brightness up for comparable clarity.
