This is the second or third trailer, the first one explains the minus one. This takes place shortly after WW2, after Japan has started rebuilding from "zero" after the destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki by the atomic bomb. Godzilla arrives and sends them from zero to minus one. Big G has had larger and smaller dorsal spines in various eras, In Heisei (ie Godzilla vs Destroyah) they were pretty big, and in Godzilla vs. Kong recently in the Legendary Pictures Monsterverse they went to the bigger spines.

Not just the destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki... no government.. military is mostly scrapped and disbanded.. and cities like Tokyo fared MUCH worse from constant firebombings than Hiroshima or Nagasaki did (look it up.. more killed in one night in Tokyo than either city we hit with atom bombs) And because of Japans actions in the war... nobody would have come to help them if a disaster like an earthquake/tsunami or typhoon happened. The Japanese were just as bad as the Nazis.

It is a movie that expresses the current situation in which the world is once again in fear of nuclear weapons by comparing it to Godzilla. It is wonderful, so please watch it.
It’s not about the money, it’s about sending a message.
This film pays homage to Ishiro Honda's Gojira from 1954 which was also completely serious. I have been a Godzilla fan for 45 years now and I'm elated to see this character being taken seriously. Perhaps some people will only want to see it for the spectacle and effects but they might be surprised how emotionally engaging the film is with the strong acting and characters in the film. the final music cue by Naoki Sato is poignant, lyrical and stirring. The whole score for that matter is excellent.

For a $15 million budget I think that CG looks pretty damn good

The cg doesnt cost a lot. But the diference between Hollywood paychecks and everywhere else... is HUGE.
Thats why in Hollywood one movie like the one with Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans and Ana de Armas (or whatever her name was) cost 200million. OVERPAID ACTORS.
But on other hand. You can see those movies almost in every theater in the world at day one.
So now i know there are people who already watched Godzilla minus one and i need to wait a lot.
The CGI itself is cheap as hell nowadays. With my PC for 650euro i also can make a lot of VFX and some CGI...
And all of those shots of Godzilla were in broad daylight, the American filmmakers seem terrified of showing him brightly lit. Hell, you could barely see him in the 2014 movie even when he was on screen.
@@pdegan2814 yes it was a ballsy move to show him in direct sunlight. I also love that a lot of the Godzilla scenes occur in the ocean. Amazing nod to Jaws (1975) when he's chasing the boat.

@@hankjw1111 Godzilla isn't an exactly a direct embodiment of something but more like metaphor for the bombs that hit Hiroshima, Nagasaki and the fire bombings of Tokyo and the horrors of war where nuclear bombs would and could be used as a warfare weapon. Though Godzilla can be anything at this point so don't really think that much about my comment, I don't know why I felt like gatekeeping all the sudden. Godzilla is many things and could always change depending on each person.

You really need to watch & react to *Shin Godzilla* to get how a modern Japanese Godzilla movie feels to prepare for Minus One.
The director also wrote the screenplay and did the visual effects, kind of like Gareth Edwards when he did Monsters. That is impressive, because this looks awesome.
This movie was terrifying! You have to go watch it!!! Loved it so much! Characters were great too!

I get the impression that 'Minus One' is how low Japan was when Godzilla struck. It wasn't just rock bottom, but below even that!
Toho has said that Godzilla isn't a hero but a calamity and that is what's shown in this movie
they mentioned it in the previous teaser, that Japan has reached rock bottom with zero point after the war. Zero considered bottom of the bottom.
but then Godzilla came, so what is worse than zero... Minus One
I didn’t see him move quickly. The scene where he bites the train is how that would happen. Like a snake, it slithers fairly slowly, but when it attacks, it strikes quickly.
Exactly at the end, when uses the Atomic breath is moving too fast. I hope this is only for the trailers.
But everything else is ok.

it's said that after the war japan was at zero and when godzilla appears japan is at minus one. thats why the title is godzilla minus one

I am looking forward to Godzilla X kong as well as this and there is the Godzilla series monarch but you see the humans more in it than Godzilla
I like how they make his dorsal plates move upward like its charging and then it suddenly moves downwards as he fires same as like a bomb dropping but not detonating right then and few seconds after then suddenly bomb moves downwards and then huge boom that desintegrates everything.
And after seeing that in the movie, two words: holy shit
there's nothing off about the VFX on this one, the previous Godzilla by Warner Bros had a different approach on the franchise after the 2014 movie, going for more visual spectacle tricks the brain into accepting the VFX, here most of the approach to the VFX is grounded and doesn't treat Godzilla as the focus, the people and their world around it are the focus. And because of that, this movie just has better CG as it works for the movie and not something that is its own thing

@@moondog3056 No, it's not. Shin Godzilla became the highest grossing Godzilla series in Japan. Only foreigners are negative about Shin Godzilla.
@Iamthereal_RS The "boring" part is a pretty important narrative in the movie. It criticize how the Japanese Government reacted to the earthquakes/ tsunami/nuclear disaster from 2012.
And Shin Godzilla was apparently for ca. 17 min (15%) of the movie on screen.
More as in Godzilla 2014 (ca. 9min), KotM (ca. 10min) and Godzilla vs Kong (ca 11min).

This movie was so good. I loved it.
The true essence of Godzilla is the terror that the Japanese experienced after the World War. In this new film, we return to the true origin of the king of monsters, the terror and destruction he causes, after Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It's not a movie about a king fighting monsters, the movie is called "Minus One" because Japan went from having one, after the war, to having less than one with the appearance of Godzilla.

Honestly you cant be mad that it looks a little funky in some areas, they had a budget of under 15mil(in usd) ! most Hollywood movies which look worse get upwards of a 50mil USD budget!

I heard the MINUS ONE subtitle refers to a term depicting a state of total lost....the example given was that..Japan after the Bomb droped was consider 0 gain a total lost..and the to have to right after, suffered the devastation of GODZILLA. Then you are enduring 2 calamities. One right after the other..so is like you're 2 in the hole..or MINUS ONE.

The original 1954 Godzilla film is is one of my most favorite Godzilla films as the film was used as a political message against nuclear weapons and Godzilla was the embodiment of nuclear destruction and how nature fights back and also demonstrates the devastating effects of radiation.
Seeing that brought to life like this is a huge deal,and the title is perfect! When Hiroshima got bombed they went to zero,but with Godzilla unleashed there now going from Zero to Minus!
This is a godzilla movie that makes you notice and pay attention to it more that has been missing how a godzilla movie is to make you feel between godzilla and the people in the movie that other movies have done to make you scared of what is happening to the people what makes this movie so different from the other godzilla movies that did not have it for this kind of movie to have
I know the fins glowed before he cuts loose, but I don't think I've ever seen them pop out
I think they also did that in Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters. Could be mistaken though.

I think from zero to minus is the story setting after Japan lost the war (0) and then Godzilla attack become minus (-).
It’s Minus One because Japan had practically lost an everything in the war (0), then Godzilla comes along and destroys Japan even more (-1).

I don't care what anyone says you can literally fight me on this but this is not only the greatest Godzilla movie ever made this is also my absolute favorite movie the only way this could have even gotten better is if they gave me that sweet R rating and make it even more of a horror movie
I wonder why Godzilla fans are so toxic, both the Toho movies and those produced by Legendary are good and enjoyable, it seems like it hurts them that someone likes either of them more.. or both
Simple, legendary fans are in good amount kids or typical block buster fans... Which while perfectly fine, fundamentaly clash with a lot of stuff that pepole who enjoy more classic godzilla. Result? Toxic behavior.

Minus one title refers to the situation of japan in the movie. After ww2, japan lost everything: no government, no military,... When a bigger threat like godzilla appears, the situation becomes much worse than ever.

This movie is set after the event of b*mbing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki so that's when Japan was at the lowest point 0 but because of the radiation of nuclear b*mb Godzilla arrived in Japan and the destruction Godzilla brought with him took Japan to even lower to minus 1 the lowest point.

The Godzilla depicted in 1954 was obviously based on the American B-29 bomber that indiscriminately bombed and destroyed the land of Japan during the war. We do not know if this Godzilla is the same.

Its funny but not funny that Oppenheimer came out recently too. You could watch that movie, and then watch this movie and see the strong connections.
I can't help but wonder what the different situations would be like if Japan/America didnt handle him. Even if America ignored or was too busy with the plight and destruction of Japan, what if he went west to Korea and China. And what if he headed east to Hawaii.
Japan- Another Atom Bomb with legs
Mainland Asia- Another devastating invasion from across the sea of Japan
Hawaii/West Coast- Pearl Harbor, but very VERY unprepared(Remember The Iron Giant folks, you'd have Mansly type characters recommending the use of the bomb on American soil if all weapons were ineffective)

I guess it is the latter because many Hollywood and Marvel works cost a hell lot more budget yet give us something like Shehulk standard. So something is wrong not with the budget of this movie, but with the budget of Hollywood movie, somebodies pocket are full of money they don't deserved.
