New Phish fan here; an "old dude" of 58 who was invited by a friend to see this band for the very first time on our Annual Guy's Vegas Trip 11/1/18 (thanks, BobN!). This was opening number. All I can say is, "Wow!" I hear so many wonderful influences in them, but they certainly make everything their own. Lighting kicked major ass, and I was amazed by how the band includes every member of the audience in its performance. First chord rang out, and the entire crowd became one united, living, breathing "thing" that didn't stop until they did. Amazing.
bobdonnelly Fantastic. Happy for ya, and you got a barn-burner for your first. Excellent ER opener, huge Chalkdust in the first set, 20-min Blaze On to open 2nd, and that Hood just keeps going. You come back real soon, ya hear?! 😎👍
Hello BobDonnelly. On behalf of each and everyone of us in the community it is my pleasure to formally welcome you to the Phamily!!!! Such an awesome story, seeing your 1st show at 58 and getting hooked, I can definitely feel your excitement just by reading your post. Brings back fond memories of my beginnings, that awe struck jaw dropping feeling when everything just clicks. When you go from listening to the music to feeling it. Like something subtle just happened, a change you can't put your finger on. Unsure you look at those around you curious if others notice and can feel this change too. Without any words they acknowledge you with simply just a smile, a smile that says it all. And as you look around you see that same familiar smile on the faces of everyone around you, that same glowing smile you have had this entire time. As if your looking in a mirror you realize its not just you that feels this, that its not just you that realizes they're not just listening to 4 people playing instruments. Its the moment when you "get it", get that its about the people coming together, people that get together who all share the same connection the same love for a special event, a special gathering that just happens to play some good music in the background. Yes we all love the music but its the people that make it special, without the people its just 4 guys playing instruments.
@@edubz1906 Thanks phor the welcoming words! I failed to mention in original comment that I was also lucky enough to briefly meet Mike Gordon two days later while me and my boys were hangin' in a cabana at the Mandalay Bay pool... I thought they would've been staying at MGM where the shows were, but for privacy I suppose it's probably a good idea to stay at a different property! (Assuming I'm correct that they were guests at MB)
You're on the right track about easing your mind. My son is 23. I can't imagine the stress associated with simply going to school. My generation only worried about a bully or two in school. Sheesh. I found the breathing with wim Hoff guiding very helpful. You can find his videos on UA-cam. Your the love My friend, and the power. Peace
I was listening to this song at dicks 2018 when I decided to reject three graduate programs to live my dream of living abroad. I now live in Guatemala and am moving to Peru next year, than Asia after. As a native English speaker (and one with a college degree at that) there are teaching jobs all over the world. Phish has helped me through so much in my life and I honestly dont know where or who I would be with out them. It is crazy to think how much music can affect you! glad to be a a part of this amazing Phamily :)
A great band making great music. 1995, 2005, 2015, 2018..... Nothing stays the same. Even in nature. Everything is growing/adapting/changing. I LOVE PHISH...... And I know you do too!!! I just feel lucky that they are still playing.
@@isaacchura141 I'd agree with that. Every band has peaks and valleys. That was definitely one of theirs. It was due to burnout. I don't think many people realize just how much they were not only touring, but also practicing in that era. I heard some Trey interviews about it and it was almost an obsessive amount of band practice, doing things like jam drills and stuff. You think of them as some easy going band, but they didn't get that tight for no reason. It was due to practice, but after 20 straight years of that anyone would get burnt out. Now they take it much easier.
Wonderful song incredible people keep on keeping on Rastafari Tucson Arizona Sonoran Desert yes I Africa we are all African and music has its own time like the beat of the heart the beat of the drum yes I let's love one another and help the Earth heal yes I
The section that they develop at 11:15 on is in my opinion an example of what contemporary Phish is capable of when they achieve liftoff The subtlety and phrasing and the dimensional depth of Trey tone are all Masterful. He builds these psychedelic melodic themes up from a crystalline whisper to pure full on molten shredding. The Band play as one Mind.
Reminiscing about hearing this tune live in Vegas about a year-and-a-half ago as the show opener for night two of their four-night stand at MGM Grand. My first experience into this band as an admittedly-ignorant 58 y/o... I was totally blown away that there was 'something out there' that I was uninformed about that was so totally and beautifully grooving right along...

This Austin show was the only phish show I attended in 2018. Drove 5 hours from Lafayette, LA to see the best band in the world. Always a great time!

Very Dead-esque circa 1980-88
lovely
when in prime jedi forms
The jamming 3.0 when they're locked in is very organic. No one leads they're playing as one. Beautiful really
