    Were the EQ settings the same for all speakers? I thought the mackie had a lot of harsh mids and the JBL muddy but the BOSE sounded fantastic. Thick and clear! Thanks for posting.

    • @WWeiss-nv5vz

      I agree with you, Mackie is all high end, mids lacking. Mackie has a 3 band EQ that is useless. JBL was EQed as best as I could to get clarity to equal the Bose but still muddy. 10" woofer has better low end but takes away clarity from high end. If you don't need max volume the Bose S1 Pro has the most Hifi sounding presentation out of the box!

      Glad you liked it. Any of these will be great! Bose S1 is so popular because it is the lightest/smallest and sounds great. If money is an issue the Mackie is louder and cleaner on the high end but not as Hi-fi sounding as the Bose. If money is not the deciding factor the new EV Everse 8 is the best, Check out this video: ua-cam.com/video/fEilBKKoL-E/v-deo.html

    Heyy! Thanks a ton for this video! Really helpful. But among these 3, using AUX input, which do you think has the best low end? I want to use it for DJing (mainly disco/house/techno) outdoors for lets say ~20-30 people. The only real deal breaker is that it needs to be battery powered cos not always you find a power source outdoors.

      If you want bass in a battery speaker, JBL Eon MK2 has bass approaching a stand alone 10" subwoofer. None of these three will make you happy with that type of music. If anything the new Bose S1 Plus will have more bass than any of these. JBL Partybox 310 has great bass if you don't mind the size/weight. Also EV Everse 12 is a possibility. Just testing it now.

    2 speakers should theoretically yield a 6 db increase and the difference between the speakers is 3 db or less. 2 Bose or JBL speakers will be noticeably louder than 1 Mackie. Good demo and share!

    A lot of people describe Bose as having a hifi sound. However, anyone serious about home hifi will tell you that Bose is far from hifi or neutral. They purposefully voice their speakers to sound pleasant but a real professional studio would never consider Bose at all.

    • @WWeiss-nv5vz
      @WWeiss-nv5vz  2 роки тому

      Agree, but in comparison to other PA speakers, Mackie, JBL they sound closer to Hifi, where the others have a clean high end but no mids to speak of.

    • @ubellubo
      @ubellubo 2 роки тому

      But these are PA speakers not actual hifi speakers or studio monitors. People just mean they sound really clear compared with other budget compact PA speakers. I think the S1 Pro sounds better than the Street Cube EX for example (not quite as loud though). The other great thing about them is they don’t suffer from feedback easily.

    Thanks for these comparisons. I have seen comparisons of the JBL against a similar Yorkville unit and was shocked by how murky the JBL sounded. I really want something with onboard reverb and a three channel mixer, but in every example I have heard the JBL just sounds unpleasant to me. Also, when I have heard it’s reverb, it sounded really bad. I am hoping there might be different settings through the app or something, but if that’s just the way it sounds… no thanks. The Bose and the Yorkville are more expensive than I wanted, so not sure what to do. I really wanted the system to be fully portable and simple. The Mackie sounds great to me I just wish they had added an aux in and a simple effects section. 😀

    • @WWeiss-nv5vz
      @WWeiss-nv5vz  2 роки тому

      Glad you liked the video. JBL can sound good with a lot of EQing, where the other two sound clean out of the box. With EQing it also limits earlier than the other two. Yorkville would be the loudest of the bunch, but the fact that it doesn't have a user replaceable battery is a deal breaker for me + more expensive. Mackie plus small mixer might be your only solution?

      @@WWeiss-nv5vz That’s the way I am leaning at the moment, I have a couple of small mixers laying around… they seem to accumulate if you have been doing this stuff as long as I have. 😂 But at this point it would be great to just carry one piece of gear, plug in a mic, an instrument or two and perhaps an iPad for fun and just play songs anywhere I wanted. I will probably get the Mackie, it’s a bargain and your right, losing the removable battery is pretty much a deal breaker.

      I think you are spot on. For the average person the Bose sounds great with no adjustments needed. The Compact with its excellent EQ can sound very similar to the Bose. JBL is more mids/low heavy. Even with EQ Bose has a cleaner presentation. Not sure if battery is needed but JBL came out with the new EON710. Better in every way than either but a little heavier at 26lbs and no battery:(

Bose smaller form factor/lighter weight. Bose has a better dispersion of 120 degrees, JBL throws 100 degrees. Both speakers should be off the ground on a speaker stand. JBL has a darker sound with more emphasis on bass which wouldn't apply for your application. JBL has the better App with a an 8 band EQ that can help you tailor your sound for different instruments/rooms. My vote for violin, Bose S1Pro. You will love it!

    JBL just lowered the Compact another $100 to $529. They might be blowing them out for a new model? This happened with my Eon One Pro that I bought for $1,200. Before they came out with the new MK2 they blew it out for $600! On the other hand EV hasn't budged from their introductory price of $750 so I don't think its just because of less demand in this Portable Battery PA segment.

    There is a problem with the JBL Compact,the power button hits a onboard, Momentary Right Angle Tactile Tact Push Button Switch 6 x 6mm x 5mm, which easily gets bent/misaligned . I like the bose S1 pro but it aint loud enough and there aint enough base and the battery life is a bit flawed but it does sound ok. Personally I dont like when the speaker companies rate and publicise watts (because its a marketing gimic) giving out a peak on something like that - as it might only peak at that for a split second I wanna know the SPL on it the RMS im terms of wattage and wanna hear it for myself as 200 watts of crap is still crap which 'sounds better' out of these speakers in your opinion with music guitar and vocals is what I wanna know ...I think there is actually a better speaker out than all of those and that is this relitively unknown brand that has a few useful extra features on it ua-cam.com/video/CkS2Lz2EnWs/v-deo.html&ab_channel=JoyoPedals

    Curious if you tried other tracks than EDM. Maybe vocal tracks? The Mackie clearly has the edge in base heavy music due to its much larger woofer. I wonder if you’d get the same result blasting Adele’s or Taylor swift, side by side with the other two. I use my S1 at wedding ceremonies so mostly for vocals.
    Crazy how the JBL sounds so muffled on your video compared to the other two. Mackie and Bose are clearly ahead. Bose is overpriced but we all knew that. If you don’t look at the price, the Bose is still the winner in my mind due to its size/weight and signature hifi sound, and also don’t forget horizontal coverage. The Bose will cover a considerably wider area than either the JBL or the Mackie.
    It’s not that impressive that the mackie is nearly 3db louder than the Bose when you consider that it’s also nearly twice the size, has a 8 woofer, and only projects the sound in a much narrower area, so it’s not a really fair comparison. Nevertheless, a very impressive performance from the cheap mackie. You could nearly buy two mackie for the price of one S1 and that is crazy.
    Hopefully a Bose S1 pro mkII is on the way soon to justify the difference in price. But like I said, just because of its size, weight and horizontal distribution, the Bose is still the clear winner to me for pro applications. To take at the beach or at a bbq with friends the Mackie makes more sense.

      Glad you enjoy the videos. To answer your question, yes I have tried the Mackie with vocals and again it is crystal clear at volume! Funny I just tried the new Adele CD tonight, sounded excellent. Heads up for my next video: I ran the Mackie from the line out of the S1Pro. At 70dB or less the S1 Pro is very mid heavy and a little muddy. At these volumes the lack of a 20Hz high end of the Bose showed. Using the App from the Mackie- which Bose lacks I was able to slowly raise the gain adding those crystal clear highs missing from the Bose while the Bose retained those smooth mids and actually better lows at these low volumes. Incredible combination! Since Bose on the Aux channel lacks any EQ and again doesn't have an App with EQ I used the Mackie as a sort of battery operated EQ adding those missing highs. With the Mackie's mute function on all channels I was able to A/B adding and subtracting the Mackie at the press of an icon. The difference was huge! This is as close to studio monitors/Hifi I have gotten in a portable battery operated PA. Unfortunately both speakers are playing in mono vs a pair of stereo S1Pros that I also have. Most people don't like mixing brands but I do whatever I need to do to get the best sound.
