Loved the video Diana, my mother in law was the President of the local Flower Club and I have many of her flower frogs. I love them! So interesting to learn more about these fun collectibles.
What a blessing to have inherited such tiny treasures Janice! I'm glad you enjoyed the video--that makes me so happy :) :)
I've collected spoons, plates and vases right out of high school but now as a senior my collections have become figurines and ephemera. I bought my first pin flower frog, to be able to display Valentine Cards. I like the way you explained flower frogs. Looking forward to your next video.
Fun collections Velma! I'm so glad you enjoyed learning about flower frogs 🙂
I have a number of flower frogs I inherited from my grandmother and her sisters. As a little girl, I remember them being used with the beautiful flowers, especially iris, narcissus and spiderwort from their gardens and their brother's greenhouse. It was so nice to watch your video and learn so much about their history. Thank you and I enjoy you website so very much...Jan
What beautiful memories you have connected to those flower frogs Jan! Thanks for sharing them with us. I'm so glad you're enjoying my resources--that means a lot ♥️♥️
Love frogs! Been buying them for years.
They are hard to resist aren't they Linda?!!
Well done and informative video. Helpful for showing novices not only what to look for but also how to use these gems.
Thanks for your kind comments, Nancy!!
Love these flower frogs! They remind me of the days when my mom participated in her garden club flower shows. There were flowers in the yard, in the bath tub, and laying on every flat surface of the house. Flower frogs, beautiful 50s and 60s ceramic vases and the smell of flowers everywhere. Good memories!
Thank you for sharing your memories with us! Sounds like your mother was a true flower artist :)
Just purchased a couple of flower frogs and I LOVE them. One is glass, but the other one is the a lead cage type with pins on the interior and has the greatest old green chippy paint on it! Oh boy, I am hooked!!! Thanks for sharing this very informational video. I always learn something from you!!
Ooh they sound marvelous Karolyn! So glad you are enjoying my videos :) :) I appreciate that you took the time to let me know--makes my day--
Very informative and well done. You demonstrated how useful FF can be and how they may be utilized around one’s home other than flower arrangements. I use one of mine for an array of make-up brushes.
Would love to see a future video actually seeing flower arrangements using the pottery, glass, and figurine flower frogs. Some of these FF figurines are not for vases but are for shallow wide rim bowls that fits the shape of the frog as you know. I believe in the 1920s/30s they were called posey bowls with a removable FF in the center ie: George Davidson’s cloud glass Deco three piece posey bowl, FF, and Pedestal (made in England). I believe these were used for shallow dining table floral centerpieces.
Thank you again for such an updated informative video on Flower Frogs.
Thank you for your kind words about the video Ellen :) My understanding is that figural frogs are typically enjoyed as decorative "statues" rather than as functional flower frogs. But I'm open to be corrected!!
Thought I knew about flower frogs, but learned so much more today. Thank you Diana. A very comprehensive video.
That really blesses me to know Ann! I SO appreciate the affirmation--means a lot :) :)
Great Info! Thanks for posting!🐸
You're welcome Randy!
Diana what a wonderful video. I have a wide collection of flower frogs, mostly inherited. For a wedding gift someone gave us a handmade clay plate/bowl with a small pin holder in the center. The bottom is engraved Ikabana. I also have a bowl with an accompanying pin holder that has a base to fit into a candlestick. It is lovely in the center candleholder of a candelabra.
Thank you Josephine--I'm so glad you enjoyed the video :) I've not seen the second type you described--sounds very interesting. Would love to see it in action...
Thank you! Enjoyed learning about these!
You're welcome Jen--I'm so glad!!

Most helpful & informative. Thanks 😊.
You're welcome Sandra--so glad you enjoy it :) :)
Very informative. I have collected flower frogs for years and three years ago moved, so I had to sell many of my flower frogs but sold mostly duplicate. I joined your adirondackgirlatheart yesterday, and this flower frog video was perfect for me. I will post my collection of flower frogs on your site. Thanks for the helpful video!
Glad you liked the video and I look forward to seeing your collection!!
Diana, this was an awesome video! So interesting.
I'm SO glad you enjoyed it Wendy!! And thanks so much for the kind encouragement--it really blesses me :)
Thank you! I learned some things I didn't know.
I'm so glad Florence!
Hi from a Central NYer! I was just watching videos on how to arrange flowers using the glass frogs, and then your video came up as a suggested, .... and guess what??? I just bought that same large flat glass flat top you showed today. Same dates and everything with the Japana at the top, and you said it was valued at $25-30, but I paid $14 for that and a bowl that it fit into. I got a great deal I believe :) . Thanks for that comprehensive video, and I've never seen a hairpin holder before.
Such a small world, right Jessica?? Sounds like you got a fantastic deal on your frog and bowl set 🙂
Thank you for your video. So much information. I learned so much!
I'm so glad! Thanks for taking the time to write such an encouraging note :)
I had an idea for another use for the glass frogs. I have metal straws that I use for drinking out of -- the frogs would hold the straws upright while drying after I wash them. Just put a kitchen towel underneath to absorb the water. :)
Oh my gosh, such a great idea Carolyn! Thanks for sharing :)
Thank you so much! I have been wondering about how to use flower frogs ever since a saw a reseller point them out on you tube. Now I want to go find some pretty ones. 😍
I'm so glad you found the article helpful!!
Thank you for your video! Very informative!
You're welcome Rosemary!! 🙂
I used to live In Cambridge, Ohio and they have a lovely museum dedicated to all the Cambridge Glass

Very interested, I brought my first vintage flower frog about 2 weeks ago. Thanks for sharing the information.
What a wonderful coincidence! You're very welcome :)

My pleasure Jenn! I get a lot of pleasure out of sharing what I know about vintage and antiques :)
Thank you so much! This was so ejoyable!
You're so welcome Christine! I'm glad you enjoyed it :)
You are so wonderful! Thank you!!
Aww Nancy--you're the sweetest :) :)
Diana, I adore flower frogs! I have sold many over the years but my favorites to keep are the pin-type for vintage photos and postcards. I am drooling over your cobalt blue one...💖
They are so much fun to decorate with aren't they! I have to fess up--I borrowed the cobalt blue one from the owner of my shop :) He keeps it on the check-out counter filled with pens :)
This was very informative! I watched because I found a tiny stoneware teardrop type vase with shaped holes on top and didn't know what it was originally used for. I'm not sure if my vase is a flower frog because I don't think it would sit in water but now I'm thinking it is actually for flower arranging. Maybe for small wildflowers or grasses.
Anyway, your video was educational and now I'll know a floral frog when I see it. Thanks! 😊
If your vase holds water and has an enclosed top with "holes" in it for flowers then I'd probably call it a flower frog. They don't have to sit in water to be classified as a frog 🙂
Got to get to bed - up at 4 but will be watching this for sure tomorrow as I have dozens!
Would love to hear your thoughts Susan!!
Wow! So informative! I learned a lot!
That makes my day Jonathan!! Thanks for taking the time to write such an encouraging comment :)
@@dianapetrillo ...actually, it was me! (Joyce)
Fantastic!! I really appreciate the much needed in depth info....thank YOU!
So glad you found the video helpful!!
Thank you for all of your research! I learned a lot. You have an awesome collection!
You're welcome Kathy--so glad you enjoyed it and found it useful!!
Awesome decorating tips as well! So many ways to use these charming little devices.
Yes! Thank you!
I am surprised the lead based ones don't kill the flowers. As usual I learn so much from you. What a blessing you are for all of us vintage dealers & collectors!
Science is not really my thing but I'm guessing flowers aren't in contact long enough for it to cause an issue.
I'm so glad you enjoyed the video Darla and thanks so much for your very kind words
Very interesting! I knew about the glass ones and the ones with the spikes, but the others were fascinating. I've seen them in thrift stores, but didn't know what they were. Those glass figurals are beautiful!
I know, right?!! So many vintage goodies to look for!
When I was a kid, I thought I was so cool if my mom let me arrange flowers in her vase with the flower frog on top!! Thanks for your interesting and entertaining information. As usual! (Not to be a smarty pants, but I believe the birds are cranes instead of herons. Where I live in central Nebraska, right now is crane migration season-a million or more stop here on their way north!!)
What a neat memory Gay! And I'd never consider you a smarty pants--you are always so kind and encouraging :) I really appreciate it when corrections are made and it shows how closely you were paying attention, too, LOL.
Very fun video! I’m curious about the character frogs. Do they have a reservoir that holds water, or are they used in a bowl of water?
Glad you enjoyed the video Jane! Some figural frogs hold water (like the snail), but others would sit in a dish of water. Truth be told, the figurals are mostly for enjoyment as small sculptures :)
Hello Diana - loved this video. I confess I have never used a flower frog for my cut flowers but now I will be on the lookout.
I am not sure you mentioned it but how would the figural frogs be used? Are they just filled with water and free standing or would they be placed in a shallow dish?
I learned so much! Thank you for sharing this.
I am curious as well maybe for short buds?
Some of the figurals can be filled with water (like the ones I show in the video), while others, like those on the slides could be used in a shallow dish as you suggest--to allow the figure to be seen. But in actual fact, the figurals are generally meant for display, not for use.
I enjoyed the information on your flower frogs. I have a SHOFU JAPAN Dragonware flower frog with its bowl & I am ready to sell it. Can't find any comps or value on it. Do you have a way of finding out? Thank you Barb
