  • Lewin's 3-stage change management model is simply explained using two example nursing projects. This video is especially helpful for student nurses, trainee nursing associates and other healthcare learners who are studying quality improvement and/or developing projects to implement change in healthcare. This talk is also useful for any registered health care professionals planning to implement change, who need to prepare project plans. Hi Carol... In your video you mentioned about developing a teaching pack for staff, which is where I get the impression teaching and learning theories would/could be incorporated within a project that is predominantly focused on change management...Lewin's theory for example. So I guess the question that comes to myself, is am I right in focusing on teaching and learning when in fact I should be focusing on change management but with an aspect of teaching and learning incorporated within? Now I'm in a pickle!!

      Hi David, You need to take Uni guidance on it as from what you say it sounds like they are giving you two options of integrating either teaching theory or change management so you focus your analysis. You could integrate Lewin's into any change project, but the teaching packs I mention are about 'freezing' and embedding a change linked to self rostering so are not linked to teaching theory. I hope that helps and I'd ask your tutor for guidance.
      Good luck with it all.

    HI Carol
    Have you any experience of doing quality improvement projects using teaching and learning theories? Could you still incorporate Lewin's model even if focusing on teaching and learning theories? As at uni we have been told to use one or the other, for example change management or teaching and learning. However, I have the feeling they could be combined a little. Thanks for another great video... I understand you are very busy but it would be great if you could develop a video on a service improvement project that incorporates teaching and learning theories.

      Hi David, you need to stick to what your Uni guidance says as different Unis have different criteria in assessments. Teaching and learning theories are different to change management so I would stick to their guidance so you don't get muddled with it all. Lewin's is a change management model. Lewin's is such as simple model it can be applied to many projects which is why you can probably see links but you must keep to Uni advice. If they don't want you to add additional change theory then stick to their brief. You can always email Uni module lead too but it sounds like you should stick to teaching theory so you can analyse using the teaching theory. Good luck with your assignment.

    Hi carol my topic of change is staff education I’m not sure who would the stakeholders be in helping me implementing staff training

    • @carolforde-johnston

      The key stakeholders are the people you need to communicate with to implement the project. They may agree or obstruct a project and will have the overall influence to enable it to progress. You need to think about where you are delivering the training and who you would go to for authorisation. It may be lead educator, ward manager or Uni lead or organisation lead. It depends on what and who you are training. I hope that helps in some way.

      @@carolforde-johnston my topic of change is “Educating staff on the importance of accurately documenting fluid balance charts”. Would this be a low cost solution within a department level?
      Thank you for replying!

      @carolforde-johnston  8 місяців тому

      @@del6979 Yes relatively low cost but depends on how you deliver training. If you bought in an expensive on line course to educate it may not. The costing could be a number of hours of staff time to deliver. You need specifics, how long will course be how delivered and by who. If self directed training package even cheaper. It all depends on how you design training and your methods.

    What is an example of a simple change or improvement that a Newly qualified nurse can implement without incurring any cost

    • @carolforde-johnston
      @carolforde-johnston  8 місяців тому +1

      Hi Junior there will always be costings with any change as staff time etc has a cost implication. However, changes that involve staff education to increase awareness, prevent risk or promote positive clinical outcomes can be low cost. Also changing stock rooms or they way something is laid out or organised can improve communication between staff or allied health professionals. It depends where you work. Implementing a different handover another one. Hope that helps.
