  • I spent years trying out a bunch of different camp toilets, but I didn't like any of them. This one changed that! It's cheap and incredibly compact, taking up barely any room in your vehicle.

    My take/modifications:
    1) Use pine bedding pellets/shavings....More economical, better pine smell.
    2) Try to separate the pee (i know I can as a male) from the poop bag by using a urinal. The pine pellet bag can be reused and last longer.

    I just cut the fabric in half and slide it over like you do the straps. Beware of some of these collapsible ones. Mine is crappy and the legs keep sliding out whenever I try to move the stool stool around. I had to tape all the joints to provide a firmer join. I would have preferred a stool that simply folds open instead of all these joins.

    Excellent idea. For a guy, you could hang a bottle off of the front for a urine diverter. Keeping liquid and solid separate would keep the smell down and maybe make the bag multi use, ( as in hold several rounds). Sort of what they call a composting toilet.
    When hammock camping I find a small laundry detergent bottle works good if you cut out the top piece that acts like a funnel. The side handle makes it easier to hold in place. Very durable and seals well.

Unless there is some emergency I use it only for number two. For number one I use a colored sports water bottle and it’s easy to empty at any fast food restaurant, gas station, etc. no one knows what it is. But please empty it into a toilet, not into a sink.

    This method works great!
    In my own build i used a smaller camp stool from amazon.
    The smaller stool weighs less and fits easily into a backpack side pouch.
    Since i lack any sewing skills, i bought some strong velcrostraps.
    Wrapped them around the stool and Used zip ties to keep tension on both sides.
    Maybe spent 35$ on the set up and im just thrilled at the aspect of getting out there into the piney woods and doing my business with no hesitation.

    I use a milk crate. Stretch a kitchen garbage bag over the crate then put a normal (oblong) toilet seat over it. It is very sturdy, works great and you don't leave any waste outdoors for the next camper to find. Also, it's best if you go number 1 first before using the toilet.

  • @adreabrooks11
    @adreabrooks11 Місяць тому

    If one doesn't have access to seat belt strips, I might suggest using electrical pull tape (also called mule tape). Its weight is similar to similar lengths of parachute cord, but even the lightest stuff can bear hundreds of pounds (I think the lightest is 1000 lbs. working weight). It's flat like a ribbon, but as wide as a finger or thumb (depending on weight limit) and can be sewn together just like nylon fabric. It's my go-to cordage option for anything load-bearing, but is great for straps and the like as well! Just make sure your thread and the type of stitching used are robust enough to handle body-wight, haha. Don't want any unpleasant surprises!
    Edit/PS: Instead of kitty litter, use something high-carbon - wood ash, sawdust, etc. It will help reduce fecal smells. A little vinegar and water solution (roughly half & half) will do the same for urine smell.

      Exactly what I use. I also separate liquid from solid. Liquid goes in a wide necked detergent bottle and is disposed of easily. Solids are simple to store, and you can even let them start composting if you add some compostable material. Mixing the two makes a smelly effluent that will spoil your day big time if spilt...

    I have a few stools similar to these but with a flip up backrest, so I think I could make one of those work! I have lots of extra hammock tree hugger straps that I can sew on to chair. Two of my chairs came with soft lunch-pail like bags that Velcro onto the underside of the chair, so I use them to hold the bags, toilet paper, hand sanitizer and wet wipes, which I think is perfect! The fabrics match too. I’m thinking that those toilet-bowl “stool collection” inserts that you get from the Dr office should also fit on top, easing the disgust of having the bag blowing in the wind and having a potential catastrophe will work too! This should be a lot better than trying to take my portapotty on a quick trip.
    I also have found that if I store my soft goods, hammock/extra gear in the sky box, then I have tons of room in the lower storage space in my Honda Pilot, which I’ve set up to hold my kitchen stuff! I have an easy folding table to put my stove on and plan to cook off that, under the hatch, keeping me dry. Wish me luck, cuz it’s storming in the PNW this weekend.

    I just use a 2 gallon bucket and small trash liners. I've rarely ever used it but because of covid all the public restrooms are closed.

    Ingenius! We have the luggable loo and camp in a huge van, but I'm going to make one for canoeing!

    This is a good idea! I've been thinking of using a small bucket with a lid, the advantage would be that you could put the lid on it until you can dispose of your waste. But it's not so compact and would need a pool noodle edge

    WalMart. 5 gal paint bucket $3. Camping section. Lugaloo Toilet seat with lid. $11 snaps perfectly tight on the paint bucket. 8 gal bags $1. I use a little water in the bucket with some pine-sol, line 8 gal bag in bucket over the water snap lugaloo in place with lid attatched and good to go.

    Thank you for simplifying a solution that i was WAY overthinking! I think i will do this and buy some pine pellets to cover and absorb. I dont want to have to change the bag every time i pee sonce that is often! LOL

    This is an awesome idea and will be a HUGE space saver for primitive camping in my 2 door Jeep Wrangler. Both stools are currently out of stock on Amazon, so I am looking for an alternative.

      Yes I was worried about that one. There would be extra clean-up required on the legs depending.

    Hmm, I might have to give this a try. I hate how much room the 5 gallon bucket takes up in my car. But I also use the bucket for transporting my litter, bags and used bags till I can find somewhere to dispose of it. So if I go to something like this I'll still need additional storage. 🤔

    Great idea. I still like my porta potty with separate sections, but this is definitely a space saver.

    If driving for days carrying wag bags, Amazon’s has odor proof bags. Get the large Bos bags. I put the wag bag in Bos bag and it does pretty good job keeping odors in. Base Camp by Outdoor System is 100% odor proof but these are expansive but reusable and biodegradable. How I know that? After hiking I got home left the bag in the garage and I forgot it for 4-5 days and no one in the family smelled anything😅

    Perfect! Way better than a bucket as it takes up so little room. I like your older option even better where it can still be a stool. I wonder if one could carefully cut the new one in 4 strips that would move out of the way in a similar fashion, and then burn or tape the edges so they don't ravel and use it as both seat and potty also?

      If the seatbelts are made with nonwoven fabric (or the camp seat is), still burning the edges would be good to stabilize the cut edge.

    Theres a toss over fabric personal cover on the interweb that's like a hat you wear and a bunch of fabric drops down to ground level from the hat part to provide a privacy shelter while you are sitting down (sort of like the pop up changing shelters, but it drapes downward., might be hard to read a book in there , but who says you have to multi task?

    Instead of kitty litter get the bedding material for small animals like gerbils. Sold any any Walmart store in the pet section. It’s wood based, more absorbent and way lighter than litter. There are folding seats like the one you show that actually come with a toilet seat if that floats your boat.

    • @12ozMousee
      @12ozMousee 3 роки тому

      @Toasty they said, kitty litter is much heavier than the wood bedding material. either works but if you're hiking or backpacking and every bit of weight counts, then the bedding might be better. never tried it myself so i can't say for sure.
