Thanks for the video, which is an excellent summary and review of the Trelino Toilet -- and it also reflects our own experiences with this toilet. We got our Trelino Evo mid-size toilet just before our recent 2 1/2-month trip to the southwestern United States. We used it in our 2021 Aliner Ranger 12 camping trailer. In the past several years, we have used a fold-down camping toilet, a Camco flushing toilet, and a folding Reliant tripod toilet. The portable camping toilet was 8" high, which was difficult for my wife of 70+ years to use. It also had limited capacity. The Camco flushing toilet was bulky, it used considerable water, and it stopped flushing and leaked when the seals failed after only a few weeks on the road. The folding Reliant tripod toilet worked better than the others, but the plastic leg mounts began to crack, so it was not stable or safe at that point. Our Trelino has none of these problems. It works flawlessly and my wife loves it. Though my wife is the one who uses the toilet, I empty my urine bottle into the toilet each morning. I also use it as a seat when I put on my boots. I weigh 250 lbs and the Trelino holds my weight while I am shifting around on it with no problems at all. It is very solid. I would not fear standing on this unit, but I would lay a 3/4" piece of plywood on the lid before I did so. Why tempt fate? When we travel, the toilet slides under our bed and is held in place with some short tension rods between the cabinets in front of the bed. We often traveled over rough, teeth-jarring roads with waste in the toilet and had no problems of any kind. We used coconut coir, potting mix, and clay-based cat litter as drying media in our Trelino. All worked well, but I would not recommend cat litter because it has its own unpleasant smell. Other than that, the Trelino was odor-free even in 90+ degree (F) weather in Utah and Arizona. We also used recycled plastic bags from Trelino, or similarly-sized bin bags, for solid waste becauses the compostable bags seemed to break down a bit too quickly. We just didn't feel confident with them. As shown in the video, we used a vinegar/water solution to keep the urine diverter fresh after each use. Urine salts sometimes concentrate in the liquid tank, but commercial strength (30%) vinegar or urine descaler cleans the blue tank nicely. If a more thorough wipedown of the toilet was in order, we cleaned it with bleach-based cleaning wipes, which worked perfectly. Our used solid waste bags were tied up and placed in our regular garbage bags, which were disposed of in campground facilities as needed. The urine tank was emptied and rinsed as needed in a campground toilet. If a vault toilet was used, I took along a bottle of water to rinse out the blue tank. Regular maintenance of this toilet is simple and easy. We disposed of waste toilet tissue in our regular garbage bags rather than in the Trelino. We did so both to save waste capacity and to ensure good contact between the composting medium and the solid waste in the toilet. This worked well for us. We highly recommend a Trelino toilet. It is a good size for an RV or trailer and is easy and comfortable to use. It is easy to maintain, easy to store, very durable, and (considerably) more affordable than other commercially available urine-diverting toilets. It is also discreet and attractive. No doubt, this toilet was a significant investment for us, but we would buy it again in a heartbeat. Thumbs up all around! 👍👍 Thanks for the video!
Excellent summary. Immediately after seeing your first Trelino video, we purchased an EVO-L for our travel trailer. We had a traditional trailer toilet and black tank. We will never go back. The Trelino performs exactly as you describe. Our urine bottle “level meter” is the sound as urine drops into the container. Loud=empty, no sound=time to empty. We also purchased an extra urine container. We use a combination of coconut coir and horse stall absorptive compressed sawdust pellets from a farm stores. We’ve found your vinegar recommendation to be right on. We like EVO’s convenience so much when traveling, so we purchased an Evo-S for our van. We rate our Trelino Evo a 5-star, as we also do for your excellent video. Thanks for sharing your first video and for your Evo experiences.
Thanks very much for sharing your experience too and it's good to hear you've got on well with your Trelino toilet! I'm glad you've found the videos helpful! ❤
The good thing about this toilet is that you can also store it in a car if you go on long road trips through the middle of nowhere...you don't have to have a camper van to use it.
I saw a review of this toilet on another channel and one of the comments said to use hamster bedding from a pet shop . So two good tips - hamster bedding (fine chopped straw) and cat litter !
Hello Ruth, a video that is not only well put together, but is also very politely made, I cannot think of any use when using the toiled that you have not covered. It sounds to me that it might be a bit expensive, but is money well spent, well made and easy to keep clean who could ask for more. Regards. Andrew.
Thank you for this. I’m going to get one as an emergency toilet. Earth quake and fires common so water and other supplies and daily things can be in short supply. This is perfect.
What a great idea! Using it as an emergency backup would also be very useful by people with wells that employ electric pumps which won't work during power failures.
I love mine! It functions simply but is made very nicely to make it all work perfectly. I use cedar or pine pet bedding. No stink! It's comfortable, lightweight and compact.
It need to be said: It's unimaginable to watch a video about toilets unless presented in this fashion. Your presentation is a reflection of your personality and is wonderful. When I see my mates tomorrow, and they ask what I did last night, answering that I watched video about camper-van toilets, they'll think I'm daffy.
@@ruthaisling Let's just say that a toilet presentation by anyone else may have pushed the absurd; however, it was super. It's also very, very unlikely I'll never even buy one.
This toilet was around $300 about 9 months or a year ago, the compact short model, now it’s close to $600. Nothing justifies this kind of inflation. It’s a separation toilet, use the right chemical to help with both 1 or 2, and it’s basically a separation toilet, nothing more. Maybe the seat is more comfortable, but I personally want to spend as short of a time on any toilet if I can help it.
Thank you so much for fully explaining the functions of a proper composting toilet. Compliments for discussing an intimate issue with dignity and grace. I love your your beautiful videos. 1000 blessings and hugs.
Saw dust or wood base produts might work in cool areas but it does not work in hot weather. Compost (plant soils) and Cocunut Coir is the best materials to use in summers.
Looks like a good design. For our compost bin we use 2 compost bags with paper then sawdust in the bottom, We get saw dust kitchen or cabinet makers. A couple of drops of aromatic oil in the vinegar and water spray bottle will help it smell even nicer. Mixing the solid and liquid together creates anaerobic bacteria like in a swamp, so better not to. If you triple rinse the urine container, then rinse with the cleaning fluid, then leave to dry the container should smell less. Empty more often, then then compost bags will survive and can be put into dump point compost systems.
Looks good, however I still think these manufacturers are taking the pi.s when it comes to price. £300 for a plastic container with a plastic bucket and bottle is just crazy.😊
When we first started vanning the toilet was such a confronting experience! We're used to it now, but I never realised that premium options with extra features are out there, especially on portable non-fixed models. Very cool video!
I don't need a camper toilet. Watched the video anyway. As always a very professional info commercial. With you doing it, it is not at all an inconvenience or bother to watch. Actually I enjoyed it. All the best Ruth, once again please be safe.
We lived aboard a boat for 10 years. The only thing that went in the toilet was what came out of your body. Toilet paper was placed in a small wastebasket with a plastic bag and a lid. The lid was not airtight, just a lid of heavy plastic material (1/2" Starboard) that sat on top. That meant the lid could easily be removed and replaced with just one hand. We never had any smell from the bucket.
I bought a portable composting toilet a couple of weeks ago, wish I’d been able to see this video before buying it! In the end I’ve bought a similar kind of separating toilet, also made in germany, called the Boxio and it looks like a crate rather than a toilet… but only costs £170 . Your tip about the vinegar sounds like it will solve the problem of smell that I’ve been having with mine, so thank you!!
Hi Ruth! I might have a suggestion for the number two, maybe trying sawdust, you can buy in all pet stores, you know for the bottom of hamster cages, it is more compact than I believe it is favorably price wise. I am really glad that I stumbled upon your channel and I find it funny that the first video I see of you is about toilets, but I must say it was very informative, and I find it to be applicable many situations other than van life. Many thanks from Denmark 🇩🇰
Great review/summary. I have been looking to swap my cassette toilet for a composting loo and Trelino definitely ticks all the boxes for me. The only thing that I was concerned about was the lack of being easily able to see when the urine canister is full but this will not put me off as the positives outweigh any negative.
Good for you, reviews of toilets aren't easy! Compressed sawdust pellets (pet shop or equine)are my preference, but leaf litter is good, too. Could you use a luggage scale to weigh your tank?
Hi there everyone! Coming from the Southern United States. I have used a 5 gallon bucket with a snap on toilet lid lined with a composting bag & used peat moss. Definitely important to keep the items separate. Depending on the adventure I have a huge rooftop tent, a slide in truck bed camper or a tow behind RV. I am working on a camper van rebuild/ renovation. Thank you Ruth!!
I am a complete novice to camping. Great job with both videos! Clear, concise and you answered many questions I had from the 1st video in this update. I learned a great deal especially the comparison on the different options including your pros and cons from your perspective. I agree with you about conservation of water, chemicals(no-no and an additional cost), convenience, safety issues late night or if you are traveling in area that you are uncomfortable going to the bathroom in, and the cleanliness factor or lack thereof in public bathroom. I am glad you talked about female concerns- sanitary and tampon disposal and overall body positioning. Questions: What's the proper way to clean it and disinfect it? Can you use bleach or other household detergents? What happens if you get a leak in the outer box from normal wear and tear or a defect? What type of warranty does Trelino offer because it ain't cheap? Can we get it here in the US? Should you buy the size based on the size of your butt if you are big person or medium sized or little bottomed person or based on usage (medium for 2 people; large for a family or 4 or something like that)? I am new to your channel. Can you go over refrigeration ideas for your camper van and how and what do you use to cook? I am very interested in watching the WIFI internet (Starlink) video as I understand that internet access is inconsistent and problematic here in the US for folks whose job requires consistent high speed internet access. I subscribed and liked for sure!
Well done, a difficult topic presented factually and without any yuck or toilet "humour" We are extremely pleased with our separating toilet of a different make that looks like a regular toilet but we incorporated it into our bench set up. i think low volume 3D printer items are invariably going to be expensive but (like solar panels) it's enabled us to stay on small 5 van sites and other "no facilities" overnight spots which save a huge amount on "all facilities" campsite fees with ehu/toilets. Pays for itself fairly quickly then. I did learn something, the vinegar/water spray. i'm adopting that idea, thanks!
Hi Ruth, what a great and informative video, no holds barred. I was dreading you may include a practical demonstration but yours was very discreet and above board..phew. You covered far more topics of using a camper toilet than I was expecting so good on you for exploring all those possibilities. It's kinda one of those topics that is never really discussed but everyone wants to know all the details. Lots of valuable info to deal with, thank you!
Didn't think I'd be musing on Ruth's jobbies today but here we are 😂. Ignore the naysayers, the convenience of this is worth the money when used extensively
Trelino is the best, but we had to create our own viewing window for checking the pee level. It surprises me that no revowers are emphasizing the importance of a LARGE pooping area in order to minimize poop cleaning
So many endorsements come off as “paid for” and I skip through. Yours are clearly authentic, and packed full of additional useful information. Because of you, I now have a handy vinegar spray bottle, and a very pretty, dedicated, and discrete shopping bag for transport 🙏. I look forward to swapping out my current one for a Trelino 🥰
I love that you sat on it! I have a separator loo on my boat, from a kit and built the box myself. The one you have is well priced compared to others & very neat, though they're all overpriced for what they are. Personally I think the good old Thetford Porta Potti is great value as well. before I got the separator I had an all singing all dancing fresh water flush electric macerator loo that emptied via a macerator into a large holding tank. It was an utter nightmare, now I have a large tool locker where the holding tank was and an almost zero maintenance toilet. BOOM! All the best...
THIS IS WAAAAY OVERPRICED FOR A BOX WITH A JUG AND BUCKET IN IT... IT IS ALMOST 1000 on Amazon in Canada.... That must be 950$ profit for this German company, once all jigs and molds set up!!!! HOLY CRAP, NO WONDER THEY SENT YOU A FREE ONE TO TRY OUT.... Only for the super rich, not us campers and hikers and tiny homers... Sad, cuz no cost for valves or levers or pumps or tanks, yet costs five times as much as water flush porta potties... So sad, cuz I want one... want.ed....
I'm in a micro-camper so don't really have space for a loo. I settled on the Bivvy Loo in the end and it works really well for emergencies 😀 My top tip would be to also get a small folding step to place it on though, as it's quite low. If I had more space, something like the Trelino looks good, I don't think I'd ever bother with the faff of a cassette toilet.
That makes sense. I rarely do multi day trips so the bivvy is really for emergencies only. Though with the shocking lack of public toilets now in the UK it's handy to have something on board if needed!
Hi Ruth, it’s only me. I haven’t started to watch your Vlog/video yet the nurses just left and I have just taken my medication but just wanted to pop in and say hello - I hope you’ve had a good weekend and I hope you have a brilliant week. Sending loads of love and loads of hugs.~ Xxx Xxx
Thanks Louise! Hope you're doing well! This video is a bit different to my normal travel video as it's about toilets so it might not be as interesting!
It is important that one have order on the toilet. The stomach works better if you can empty your bowels when you feel it is necessary. It is a good toilet you show, it is easy to keep clean and that is important for hygiene.
Gday Ruth. I got one of these toilets off the back of your review and had it delivered to Auz. It's the best and a game changer for me and my van. Thanks for your videos. Good journey. Cheers Davo.
Me too, in US! LOVE my Evo S!! especially the stability (vs round bucket - which worked well re odor when added a gama lid - except when opened it to use! and I worried about spills). Agree, it's the separating which helps most re odor - which positively impacts my van but also alleviates disposal anxieties. Pricey but excellent quality and Worth It! THANK YOU!!!
But it's not a 'compost' toilet because it goes into a landfill before composted and adds to the ozone by creating gases, so it maybe convenient but is it really environmentally friendly?
I feel sincerity in the honest and detailed explanation so far. As support, there are "souvenirs" that were used as "fertilizer" in the past in Japanese agriculture. In particular, the "liquid" had a strong smell and effect and needed to be left for a while. From that experience, it is reasonable to separate 1 and 2.
Thanks for a very informative review. If it was just me in a camper van, the Trelino would be my first choice. Over here in the States, we use an installed toilet with holding tank in our travel trailer. We dump the waste at “full hook-up” (water, electric, and sewer) RV parks. Mrs. Hare and I can usually go for a full week before needing to dump the tank. I like your system better than ours, though.
Hi Ruth, really enjoyed this video and how you presented it...not always the easiest subject, but you brought forth a nice example of quality off grid gear that everyone could benefit by knowing about...really well presented...many thanks my friend!
It’s always going to be a sensitive subject on the discussion of various toilets and how they function! But very well executed Ruth 😁 👍💪 Thomas crapper would be proud of your presentation 😃
Wow, that looks like a lot of work. May I suggest the Laveo Dry Flush toilet? I had for 3 months now and I absolutely love it! No compost materials needed.
If it is, I kind of like the looks of the treeline for two reasons: no electronics required and both easier & less disposal container waste. (Those silver bags are expensive and proprietary.) If I am mistaken, have mis-identified, my apologies!
Plenty of decent alternative composting toilets out there these days at a far more reasonable price . Glad you got a free one Think I will spend a bit less on spending a penny !
That is quite a lot of fiddling around! I’m a bit lazy, so I would choose “not particularly enjoying emptying a cassette toilet” over the fiddle faddle. But very informative, I enjoyed your work.
Looks pretty good for what isn’t for however, I just check them out and in Canada they cost about $1000.00. For a plastic box with a lid. Okay, I’ll pass.
Another great video on the Trelino, Ruth! Your last one conviced us to buy one and we haven't been disappointed! It's just as you described and we love it! Thanks so much for introducing it to us. We also agree with everything you say in this video too! 🙂🙂
I think I've started watching your films a bit too far along. So I've gone back to some of your earlier ones. By now I've learned about your Middle Eastern and Far East life, and being a Welshmen having recently lost my partner, from Stirling in Scotland, I was confused somewhat by you. This is the film that straightens things out for me. Your frank discussion of efficient disposal of NUMBER 1 and 2 WASTE had me chuckling throughout! You talk exactly like my late missus! Thank You! 😄
Thanks for thoroughly discussing the pros and cons of the toilet! I am curious though, how comfortable is it to sit on when you're using it? Is there enough support or do you feel like you may fall in if you aren't careful? I would imagine that it isn't as comfortable as a residential toilet, but I would hope it isn't so bad that you would put it in the list of cons.
extremely helpful and thorough review. Appreciate it. I don't have a campervan but very much want to get one so looking forward to more reviews of things you have found very useful. Thanks!
Thank you for the detailed review. I remember the one you did initially, and I wanted to buy one then, but the price is a bit high for me at the moment, and I have a unit that is functional, but it's rather large and not as convenient. Hopefully, I will win the draw!!!
Really interesting and informative Vlog - thank you! Really tempted now to buy one for my campervan despite already having a bivvy loo. Decisions, decisions ...
I have a huge collection of portable toilets and fully intend adding one of these. I don't urinate or defecate as I'm an AI 'bot', however I do earn money from my internet promotions. With my earnings I rented storage units in which I store these chemical toilets. My other units contain my collection of ebikes.
My cat has a sawdust based litter for her tray, Might be suitable for the Trelino too. I found it worked well for her waste, although the litter did stick to her paws, but I'm guessing that won't be a problem for you
I have one and it works well. I’m just coming to the end of three months in Scandinavia and use it all the time the time. I’d agree the urine capacity is limited. I also feel slightly uncomfortable about leaving all these bags of human waste in bins around the country. I know I put dog poo in bins and don’t think twice. My other comment would be if you plan to stay on stay every night or c a camp site with chemical toilet disposal facilities a normal chemical toilet is probably easier but f you plan to be off grid sometimes then the separating Toilet is more convenient
@@ruthaisling fabulous, Norway is spectacular. I have a Ford transit custom with a high top not dissimilar to your van. Channel tunnel, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany up into Denmark and across the bridge to Sweden, up through Sweden and Finland to the top of Norway (Nordkapp) then all the way back down through Norway to Kristiansand to catch the ferry to the top of Denmark etc. will have been away 11 weeks when I get home. All very easy and safe, took my little dog Captain as navigator. Keep up the great videos.
As a retired public dunny cleaner [ Oz toilet] I can tell you they are not cleaned often enough & unfortunately some adults are still not toilet trained. So having your own portable is a must. When you're sleeping in a van the last thing you want to do is get dressed and go outside in the middle of the night. I just use a 2lt detergent bottle with a handle for a pee - you don't want to drop it.
I use a 5 litre water bottle Bruce. I can sit on my seat and it rests on the floor...saves me from dropping it like I almost did once Oh' I also add a little bleach to the bottle to begin with and give the bottle a shake (with the lid on of course) after first pee, this eliminates any urine smell from then on 👍 I'll try a baking soda, hydrogen peroxide and dish detergent mix next time though because they're more environmentally friendly and supposed to work. I didn't find that vinegar worked like a squirt of bleach, perhaps I didn't use enough.
@@pa_maj.MARTINI-van-MAN Reminds me of Aussie rules fans in the standing room at the MCG with a bike tube 'attached' to their donga so they could pee in situ. & not miss any play in a packed grand final. The urinals were overflowing anyway.
I’m struggling with trelino which I really like but the ogo and one other similar for $200 seems to make more sense. I really wish the trelino had a better price than they do
OK, I was thinking TMI, but now I've reconsidered. Other than the fact that it does look too much like a cooler, I now think this will help people out.
Poop is gonna smell regardless if it is mixed with urine or not ! What poop doesn't smell ? lol .. Neat toilet ! Way better than trying to use a 5 gallon bucket .. I am too tall to sit on a bucket .. Maybe I will invest in getting one of these (the taller one) for traveling, I hate using public restrooms, $300 though, wow ! Nice video.
Great video on a subject that must surely be on every campervanners priority list.....in fact, you could even say it would have to be their "number one or number two priority"....arf arf....see what i did there! 😜 Seriously though, this is a vital issue and was professionally covered in a frank and informative manner. Just a shame someone in the UK couldn't produce a similar product at a reduced price but at least the German product is available and is tried and tested and definitely seems to be the best available option which covers all the necessary bases. Well done Ruth.......always my "number one" youtuber. x 😜
Ive said i could watch you read the phone book, to see your face and hear your voice, guess this video proves my point.good video even if it was about the loo!

Thanks for the video, which is an excellent summary and review of the Trelino Toilet -- and it also reflects our own experiences with this toilet.

Hello Ruth, a video that is not only well put together, but is also very politely made, I cannot think of any use when using the toiled that you have not covered. It sounds to me that it might be a bit expensive, but is money well spent, well made and easy to keep clean who could ask for more. Regards. Andrew.
Thanks Andrew, I tired to cover as much info as possible. Glad it came across that way!
You may be the only UA-cam channel in history that has/will ever conduct a toilet giveaway contest! Thanks.
Haha maybe! 😂
Haha, glad you enjoyed the presentation
@@ruthaisling Let's just say that a toilet presentation by anyone else may have pushed the absurd; however, it was super. It's also very, very unlikely I'll never even buy one.
This toilet was around $300 about 9 months or a year ago, the compact short model, now it’s close to $600. Nothing justifies this kind of inflation. It’s a separation toilet, use the right chemical to help with both 1 or 2, and it’s basically a separation toilet, nothing more. Maybe the seat is more comfortable, but I personally want to spend as short of a time on any toilet if I can help it.
Great review. I use wood pellets in my #2 bin.. In the states these are widely available as heating fuel.
Thank you so much for fully explaining the functions of a proper composting toilet.
Compliments for discussing an intimate issue with dignity and grace.
I love your your beautiful videos.
1000 blessings and hugs.
Glad it was helpful!
Saw dust or wood base produts might work in cool areas but it does not work in hot weather. Compost (plant soils) and Cocunut Coir is the best materials to use in summers.
👍
Thank you 😊
I don't need a camper toilet. Watched the video anyway. As always a very professional info commercial. With you doing it, it is not at all an inconvenience or bother to watch. Actually I enjoyed it. All the best Ruth, once again please be safe.
Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed the video!
Yep. Toilet arrangements are what puts me off travelling in a van! I’ll just have to do my van travels vicariously through you Ruth!
Haha I understand!
No. 1 & No. 2. The same thing my Mom said when I was growing up in Blount County, North Alabama! That must be in the Intergalactic book for Mothers!
😂
We lived aboard a boat for 10 years. The only thing that went in the toilet was what came out of your body. Toilet paper was placed in a small wastebasket with a plastic bag and a lid. The lid was not airtight, just a lid of heavy plastic material (1/2" Starboard) that sat on top. That meant the lid could easily be removed and replaced with just one hand. We never had any smell from the bucket.
Regardless of subject matter, this is one of the best designed and produced UA-cam videos I have ever watched.
Thank you! A lot of planning went into this video and what to include, so that means a lot!
It looks a great toilet option too. Lots of toilet solutions out there. I hope the vinegar works for you!
We have one and it's great BUT the membranes that stop the wee splash back cost ~£15 for a pack of 2 and the postage is another ~£15 on top!
I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
Good for you, reviews of toilets aren't easy! Compressed sawdust pellets (pet shop or equine)are my preference, but leaf litter is good, too. Could you use a luggage scale to weigh your tank?
I'll maybe have a look for those and give them a try! I guess I could do that, thanks for the advice!
Glad it was helpful. Yes the spray bottle is great 👍
Hi Ruth, what a great and informative video, no holds barred.
Glad the video was helpful, I tried to include as much detail as possible as there were so many questions on the last video!
I appreciate that. I will only share about products I use and recommend!
So sad, cuz I want one... want.ed....
Small animal wood pellets in a bag, in a tall bucket with toilet shaped lid, £20 quid or so, works just as good
I'm in a micro-camper so don't really have space for a loo. I settled on the Bivvy Loo in the end and it works really well for emergencies 😀 My top tip would be to also get a small folding step to place it on though, as it's quite low. If I had more space, something like the Trelino looks good, I don't think I'd ever bother with the faff of a cassette toilet.
Glad the Bivvy loo is working for you! It is good but I use the toilet mostly for number ones and find the Trelino works really well for this.
That makes sense. I rarely do multi day trips so the bivvy is really for emergencies only. Though with the shocking lack of public toilets now in the UK it's handy to have something on board if needed!
@@MultiVogon I really wish there were more public toilets!
Thank you,the trelino looks like it ticks all the boxes low work and easy handling,i agree with you re the look and colour,it blends better.thanks.
I use a powder that converts the urine in gel. I don't need to separate them. No smell.
Great idea ! And what is it called ? And where did you buy it ?
I really appreciate the time you take to answer most if not all massages. Interesting video, even if I don’t have a van!
Thanks Christina!
Gday Ruth. I got one of these toilets off the back of your review and had it delivered to Auz. It's the best and a game changer for me and my van. Thanks for your videos. Good journey. Cheers Davo.
That’s great you are having a good experience with your toilet! I love mine!
Ah yes I remember the botton toilet in tokushima was used for that purpose….
Sounds like you have a good set up too!
Hi Ruth, really enjoyed this video and how you presented it...not always the easiest subject, but you brought forth a nice example of quality off grid gear that everyone could benefit by knowing about...really well presented...many thanks my friend!
Glad it was helpful!
It’s always going to be a sensitive subject on the discussion of various toilets and how they function! But very well executed Ruth 😁 👍💪 Thomas crapper would be proud of your presentation 😃
Haha thank you!
I have a suggestion for the medium to add to the #2 side. Pine pellet cat litter.
Comprehensive and very well handled review with all topics covered Well done Ruth!
Thanks John!
thanks so much for this video, i’m a girl wanting to go full time in a van and it’s so useful to hear your experience x
So glad it was helpful!
Wow, that looks like a lot of work. May I suggest the Laveo Dry Flush toilet? I had for 3 months now and I absolutely love it! No compost materials needed.
Is that the one that has a silver bag which twists shut after each use?
If it is, I kind of like the looks of the treeline for two reasons: no electronics required and both easier & less disposal container waste. (Those silver bags are expensive and proprietary.)
If I am mistaken, have mis-identified, my apologies!
Just dawned on me that I've been impressed by a portable toilet video😊. Well done Ruth.
Thanks! 😊
Nicely covered. I like the "heads-up" you gave viewers at the beginning.
Thanks 😊
Well Ruth, this was very interesting. I wasn't expecting to find something like this to be that interesting but there you go! Thanks for sharing.
Glad it was helpful!
There you go. Ahem.
Plenty of decent alternative composting toilets out there these days at a far more reasonable price . Glad you got a free one
Think I will spend a bit less on spending a penny !
That is quite a lot of fiddling around! I’m a bit lazy, so I would choose “not particularly enjoying emptying a cassette toilet” over the fiddle faddle. But very informative, I enjoyed your work.
Yeah - we traveled to Ruth's toilet!!!😎. Very informative and professionally done, as always.
Glad you found it informative!
Looks pretty good for what isn’t for however, I just check them out and in Canada they cost about $1000.00. For a plastic box with a lid. Okay, I’ll pass.
Thanks for sharing and I love the idea of keeping the number 1 and number 2 separate because it does stink. Great info.
Glad it was helpful!
Another great video on the Trelino, Ruth! Your last one conviced us to buy one and we haven't been disappointed! It's just as you described and we love it! Thanks so much for introducing it to us. We also agree with everything you say in this video too! 🙂🙂
Great to hear! Thank you 🙏
You're amazing. It's the first time ever I've enjoyed watching this kind of video. I love you. Please, stay safe. ❤❤❤
Thank you so much!!
Thank You! 😄
Haha oh no, not sure if that’s a good thing or bad thing 😂
You're amazing 😍 just finished the survey, best of luck to everyone entering ☺️
Good luck!
I find the toilet comfortable, it has the ergonomic seating design too!
@@ruthaisling Good to know! I'm not in the UK, but hopefully this will help someone who is thinking about buying a toilet made by this company.
extremely helpful and thorough review. Appreciate it. I don't have a campervan but very much want to get one so looking forward to more reviews of things you have found very useful. Thanks!
I don't need a camp toilet, but when i saw Ruth was on, I watched 😅. You gave an excellent, informative presentation...well done.
Thank you so much 😊
ORDERED ONE!!! Just watched your video and placed order. Thanks!!!!!! WOOHOO!
Hope you love it as much as I do!
Thank you for the detailed review. I remember the one you did initially, and I wanted to buy one then, but the price is a bit high for me at the moment, and I have a unit that is functional, but it's rather large and not as convenient. Hopefully, I will win the draw!!!
Thanks for entering, good luck!!
Really interesting and informative Vlog - thank you! Really tempted now to buy one for my campervan despite already having a bivvy loo. Decisions, decisions ...
You won’t regret it!
Thank you Ruth! Efficient and effective review. Well organized-really good job!
Excellent review Ruth. Funny situation if someone [ God forbid) breaks into your van & steals your food bin they could be in for a surprise 😊
So true! 😂 hahaha
Also, SL is a game changer. Their prices will come down over time. High speed internet in the middle of nowhere? Priceless. For safety reasons alone.
Hello ruth my uncle had the hymer campervan its was brilliant so much space massive windscreen ❤
Sounds great!
I found it worked well for her waste, although the litter did stick to her paws, but I'm guessing that won't be a problem for you
That's good to know, thanks for sharing! I've never tried cat litter before.
My other comment would be if you plan to stay on stay every night or c a camp site with chemical toilet disposal facilities a normal chemical toilet is probably easier but f you plan to be off grid sometimes then the separating
Toilet is more convenient
Yes great points. I probably stay in campsites 50% of the time and then off-grid 50% of the time! Did you enjoy your time in scandanavia?
@@ruthaisling fabulous, Norway is spectacular. I have a Ford transit custom with a high top not dissimilar to your van. Channel tunnel, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany up into Denmark and across the bridge to Sweden, up through Sweden and Finland to the top of Norway (Nordkapp) then all the way back down through Norway to Kristiansand to catch the ferry to the top of Denmark etc. will have been away 11 weeks when I get home. All very easy and safe, took my little dog Captain as navigator. Keep up the great videos.
Excellent information! Try a wood based cat litter like Okocat. Easy to find and is designed for what you'd be using it for.
Thank you!
I can sit on my seat and it rests on the floor...saves me from dropping it like I almost did once Oh' I also add a little bleach to the bottle to begin with and give the bottle a shake (with the lid on of course) after first pee, this eliminates any urine smell from then on 👍
I'll try a baking soda, hydrogen peroxide and dish detergent mix next time though because they're more environmentally friendly and supposed to work.
I didn't find that vinegar worked like a squirt of bleach, perhaps I didn't use enough.
@@pa_maj.MARTINI-van-MAN
Reminds me of Aussie rules fans in the standing room at the MCG with a bike tube 'attached' to their donga so they could pee in situ. & not miss any play in a packed grand final. The urinals were overflowing anyway.

I have the Evo L same color in my bus and my van, I love them
Brilliant review. Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
I am curious what you think about the extra fan accessory, is it necessary?
Great review after 1yr Ruth. Makes absolute sense to have one of these. Very well presented as always 👌 😊
Glad it was helpful! Thank you 😊
I’m struggling with trelino which I really like but the ogo and one other similar for $200 seems to make more sense. I really wish the trelino had a better price than they do
you get what you pay for
OK, I was thinking TMI, but now I've reconsidered. Other than the fact that it does look too much like a cooler, I now think this will help people out.
Yes it might be TMI for some people. But hopefully helpful for others!
Nice video.
Great video , and thank you for having an open conversation about periods too when out traveling… 👍🏻
Thanks Victoria, there were quire a few questions about it last time so glad it was helpful!
...nice...question: if I opted for the larger toilet, will it come also with a larger tank for #1 and #2?
Yes, you can check the sizing on the website too
Looks like a great travel toilet 😊 thanks for the review
Thanks for watching!
Well done Ruth.......always my "number one" youtuber. x 😜
I hope it was helpful!
The prices are insane
Yep, absolutely taking the p*ss…..
Was wondering what you do with the toilet paper if not putting it into the Trelino? And how you stop the smell from the toilet paper used?
You can put the toilet paper in a separate trash bag and throw away as soon as you can
@@ruthaisling cool, simple but effective. Thank you :-)
Ive said i could watch you read the phone book, to see your face and hear your voice, guess this video proves my point.good video even if it was about the loo!

Hello Ruth hen
I have the same toilet
Once again another brilliant descriptive video on the Trelino
How have you got on with your toilet?
@@ruthaisling I find it to be very helpful in the Van
It took a wee bit of time to get use to it at first
As you said about cleaning it is very easy
Thank you again for the suggestions on clean up as well 😊
Since I need to properly dump the grey water regardless, what’s the advantage of a cassette?
Wow, that is a brilliant product for the toilet. Where do you take a shower while traveling in a van? Thank you.
I often stay at campsites which have showers, I go to leisure centres and use the gym / shower. Also some public toilets or service stations have showers. I like to have a shower everyday
