great tips Daniel, one other way you can tell when your goats are going to start kidding is they get this silly grin on their face. It's utterly amazing. Stay Safe, Later Okie

You did well explaining the signs, one sign I have noticed a lot with our goats is the doe will lay on the ground, stand up paw at the ground. Lay down again and keep repeating the process.

HOW TO TELL WHEN GOATS ARE ABOUT TO KID :
Goat looks at camera with eyes wide open.
Goat pulls out carrot, cigar or other prop.
    Goat raises its eyebrows.
Goat uses carrot as pointer and gestures with it several times.
Goat laughs to self as she realizes how funny she truly is.
Goat starts to kid and goes into long discussion of subject.
    Goat gives punchline.
Other goats break into helpless laughter and fall on the ground.
Goat may get gig at local comedy club soon.

I was wondering when you was going to say something about the tail ligaments. Generally I don't even have to feel them to tell if they are about to kid except with new does. I use a few others signs I look out for but I'm sure others have beat me to the punch. Nice job giving information on kidding and putting it in terms that everybody can inderstand.

haha "lady parts". I could have used this video a week ago, just had two does kid this week. I have a camera in the barn and looked in, one second no kids, the next there's two.
So do you only turn your buck out once a year? What do you do with him the other 5-6 months if you don't want your does knocked up until September? Is he locked up and the rest get to roam the 100 acre woods? I'm curious b/c I have 5 acres and don't know how I'm going to keep them separate yet.

Hey Daniel, My doe had a discharge a week and a half ago. I just put her to bed for the night in her stall and did not notice any other signs with the exception of the soft ligaments and quite a bit of puffiness on her "female parts". Udder is firm. I purchased her pregnant, so don't know the day. Lady told me February. ???? All I can do is sit and wait. I'm going to share this video on my Facebook because I have a lot of followers waiting with me for the arrival of those kids. Thanks for the detailed information.

When I get mine wondered about keeping him tame or how to handle him. Is he willing to leave the ladies or do you have to force or coax him? since I am getting Kikos in fall I want to know this before I get them so I can know what to do right off the bat. Also have to figure out a separate pen for the buck Will Elec. net keep him in too when there are girls involved he wants to see?

    • @ArmsFamilyHomestead
      @ArmsFamilyHomestead  5 років тому

I would not depend on an electric fence keeping him away from the girls! My buck will usually go where the feed bucket goes so that's how I trick him into going where I want.

You make me almost want to have goats, if my grandchildren lived closer I would, but they don't visit very often. One other matter, I think I enjoy your channel partly because you are an LEO, I have been retired for 25 years from Columbus Ohio PD. What I really like is that you keep it a job and have a personal life other than the job. I did as well I refused to go into homicide or sexual abuse because you went to work and did not know when you would get off. The closest I came was crime scene search unit but if I had plans when I got off I would just put a guard on the scene until the next day. Personal time and having a personal life is too important, to many LEO's have no other life. My family, friends and hobbies are still with me 25 years after retirement, other than the night mares the job is gone. I am guessing your head is where it should be.
